    • 90+4' The final whistle blows and there are more than few boos which greet it from the home crowd. West Brom fans will return home feeling that justice was done and they would be right - a thoroughly entertaining game deserved to end in a draw.
    • 90+2' There was a certain inevitability about that goal given the way Spurs' defence looked so rattled in the preceding minutes.
    • 90+1' GOAL!! WEST BROM LEVEL!! Spurs panic as West Brom throw everything forward. William Gallas heads off the line but the ball eventually comes back to Morrison, who sidefoots a cool finish well out of Friedel's reach!
    • 90' It's all West Brom now as they win another corner. Four minutes of added time is signalled.
    • 89' Morrison sends in a corner which causes pandemonium in the Spurs box! McAuley's header is nodded onto the bar by Assou-Ekotto and somehow spurs scrambble it clear!
    • 88' Lukaku plays the ball inside and early looking for Rosenberg, but the Swede is not on the same wavelength as the Belgian.
    • 86' Assou-Ekotto scored his fourth Premier League goal and first since February. All three previous goals came in victories at White Hart Lane.
    • 85' Bale is taking up residence on this right-hand side now, and his cross is blocked by Yacob for a corner.
    • 83' Lukaku pops up on the left now and feeds the ball square to Morrison. The midfielder twists and turns as he tries to work the space to shoot, but he is soon crowded out by defenders in white shirts.
    • 81' Great play from Lukaku as he turns away from fellow Belgian from Vertonghen, but the defender recovers just in time to block the shot when the striker had the goal at his mercy!
    • 79' Sigurdsson makes an intelligent run and tries a shot from an acute angle, but it's blocked by Olsson. West Brom will fancy their chances of getting a draw every bit as much as Spurs are hopeful of scoring a second.
    • 78' West Brom substitution: Markus Rosenberg replaces Fortune.
    • 77' Another scare for Spurs as Fortune wriggles his way into the area and Friedel blocks the low cross. Spurs scramble the ball away for a corner, which is poorly delivered.
    • 76' Tottenham substitution: Jermaine Jenas replaces Defoe.
    • 75' West Brom substitution: Chris Brunt replaces Dorrans.
    • 74' GOAL!! Sigurdsson's corner is headed away but only as far as Assou-Ekotto. The left-back hits a low drive from distance that takes a wicked deflection off Dorrans and beats the stranded Foster!
    • 74' Tottenham substitution: Sigurdsson comes on for Sandro and runs right over to take the corner.
    • 73' Bale pops up on the right and receives the ball. He dribbles around his marker and unleashes a well-struck effort from range that Foster fists away for a corner!
    • 71' It looks like Gylfi Sigurdsson is coming on for Spurs. Sandro the one likely to be taken off.
    • 69' Fortune fights his way past Assou-Ekotto and Friedel is off his line quickly to make a vital point-blank save!
    • 68' Lennon goes skipping up the field with the ball at his feet. He slips it to Defoe with three players around him and the striker's effort is another regulation stop for Foster.
    • 67' Vertonghen clears but there is no one that far up the pitch for Spurs. West Brom really look a different team now.
    • 66' Those substitutions have already had a big impact ont he game. West Brom's pressure wins them a second corner in quick succession.
    • 65' WHAT DRAMA! Defoe has a fine finish rightly chalked off for offside, and West Brom go right up the other end where Lukaku's low finish across goal is saved well by Friedel!
    • 64' Adebayor's first touch sees him take Lennon's cross on his chest and the crowd insist he is being held back by McAuley, but in any case play goes on and the ball is cleared.
    • 63' West Brom substitution: Romelu Lukaku replaces Long.
    • 63' Tottenham substitution: Emmanuel Adebayor replaces Van der Vaart.
    • 62' Defoe has another snapshot from range that is an easy catch for Foster.
    • 60' Lennon's cross is cleared but only as far as Van der Vaart on the edge of the box. the Dutchman opts not to strike on the volley and that allows West Brom to clear the danger.
    • 59' Assou-Ekotto fouls fortune out wide. The increased pressure on the Spurs defence from West Brom's attacking players since the break is certainly having an effect.
    • 58' Adebayor is warming up on the touchline now. How soon before we see him make a second Tottenham debut?
    • 57' Another promising counter-attack from Spurs and this time Defoe drags his shot wide from the edge of the box.
    • 56' Moments earlier, Friedel made his first save of the match as he palmed away Dorran's shot from wide on the left.
    • 55' Defoe tries to lead out a Tottenham break but referee Mike Dean pulls play back for a West Brom free-kick.
    • 55' The subsequent corner is an easy catch for Foster.
    • 53' Both of Tottenham's full-backs are standing over this one. It's Assou-Ekotto to strike... Tipped over the bar by Foster!
    • 52' Defoe nudged over Yacob on the edge of the box. Free-kick to Spurs. The England striker is making his presence felt as the lone frontman at the moment.
    • 51' Van der Vaart finds Bale's run with a floated ball. The Welshman takes it on his chest but his right-footed shot is sliced high! Had that been his left, it could have been a different story.
    • 50' Great individual work from Defoe to surge forward and hold onto the ball on the edge of the West Brom box, but the move fizzles out as the visitors have time to regroup.
    • 49' James Morrison's delivery to the far post is overhit, and Olsson cannot send it back across goal with a header.
    • 48' West Brom keeping the ball much better in the first couple of minutes of the second half than they did at any time in the first half. The move bears fruit as Vertonghen fouls Long and West Brom have a free-kick in a promising position.
    • 47' Spurs have scored in their last 24 Premier League matches at White Hart Lane. They last failed to score in a league match at the ground in a 0-0 draw against West Ham in March 2011.
    • 46' The second half is underway! No changes at half-time.
    • HT Someone calling themselves Zlatan Ibrahimovic (@ImZlatan) says: "Tottenham will win eventually with... Two goals ? Defoe will score at least one."
    • 45+2' Half-time is signalled, and for all Tottenham's dominance they have not been able to make a breakthrough. Sahre your thoughts on the game via Twitter @tony_mabert. AVB or WBA?
    • 45+1' We're in the first of two minutes to be added on at the end of the first half.
    • 45' SHOT ON TARGET! Bale surges in from the left and plays iot to Defoe. The striker digs a shot out from under his feet but it rolls tamely to Foster.
    • 44' Defoe has scored in each of his last three Premier League matches against West Brom (including his goal in Tottenham’s 2-2 draw with West Brom in April 2011, which was his 100th for the club in all competitions, his 100th PL goal, and Tottenham’s 1,000th in the league era).
    • 43' Spurs put together plenty of passes in midfield but West Brom hold them at bay.
    • 41' Sandro and Defoe both have efforts blocked before Reid finally clears for a corner. Van der Vaart's out-swinger is cleared and Spurs can't build a second assault at goal.
    • 40' After Spurs dominated the opening half hour, the last 10 minutes have seen this game stagnate somewhat. Spurs have had eight shots so far, none of them on target.
    • 38' Claudio Yacob floats a free-kick to the far post, but it's too long for Olsson to reach with a header.
    • 37' Vertonghen and Walker and loitering around the dead ball, but it's Van der Vaart who will strike... Like Reid's, this free-kick goes harmlessly over the bar.
    • 36' Jonas Olsson is now penalised for a foul on Defoe, just moments after Mulumbu escapes a second booking for a second bit of shirt pulling.
    • 35' Lennon with a great turn by the byline but he tries to turn again and this time Ridgewell does enough to put him off his cross.
    • 33' Reid fires over the bar. That was a disappointing effort. Neither keeper has had a save to make.
    • 32' Jake Livermore fouls Fortune. With Chris Brunt on the bench, it looks like Reid will have a pop at goal from here...
    • 31' The resulting Spurs free-kick leads to their first corner of the afternoon. Van der Vaart delivers and Vertonghen rises but is judged to have impeded his marker.
    • 30' Good strength from Defoe but hehas his shirt yanked back by Youssouf Mulumbu, right in front of the referee! That's a real gimme of a booking.
    • 29' Spurs have won 13 and lost just two of their last 18 Premier League games at White Hart Lane.
    • 27' The whole of home crowd applauds and sings for Ledley King right through the 26th minute in tribute to their recently retired captain. A touching moment.
    • 26' Vertinghen scored 13 league goals in his final two seasons at Ajax, so he has pedigree in front of goal. Not that you'd know it from the way he lashed that effort though.
    • 24' Vertonghen brings the ball forward into the West Brom half. He plays it wide for Bale and then the cross comes back to him inside the box. Both he and Van der Vaart shape to shoot and it's Vertonghen who slices his effort wide!
    • 23' West Brom finally but a move together down the left, but the cross is cleared by Benoit Assou-Ekotto with Fortune breathing down his neck.
    • 22' The rain is coming down in sheets in north London. The torrential downpours claimed a victim this afternoon as Sunderland's game at home to Reading was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
    • 21' Lennon gets another cross past Ridgewell, but Defoe provides no aerial threat. Surely Adebayor will make an appearance at some point, no matter what the score.
    • 19' Andre Villas-Boas won one and lost one against West Brom last season as Chelsea manager – winning 2-1 at home and losing 1-0 away to Roy Hodgson’s side in his final match as Chelsea manager in March.
    • 18' Fortune against Vertonghen again. This time the Belgian defender shows his class with a well-timed tackle. West Brom have barely strung any passes together so far. Shane Long has been completely isolated up top.
    • 17' Walker finds Lennon's darting run with a great ball and the winger cuts inside. He squares for Van der Vaart... HIT WIDE!! The Dutchman should have scored!
    • 16' The rain is coming down hard at White Hart Lane now. The floodlights are on too.
    • 15' Lennon has not scored for Spurs since January. Since arriving at the club in 2005 he has scored just 25 goals.
    • 14' Van der Vaart with a lovely through ball and Bale is away down the wing. He pulls the ball across to Lennon's feet on the edge of the box. The little winger tees the ball up for the half-volley but he miscues his shot harmlessly off target!
    • 13' First good bit of link-up between Defoe and Van der Vaart, but Steven reid gets a foot in at a vital moment and the ball ends up in foster's arms.
    • 12' Spurs have had 89% possession so far.
    • 11' Jan Vertonghen's error gives Marc-Antoine Fortune possession, but Sandro is back to cover and wins the ball back.
    • 10' Spurs having all of the ball in these early stages, but are yet to test Ben Foster in the Baggies' goal.
    • 9' West Brom have lost their last four Premier League matches refereed by Mike Dean. In total they have lost 11 top-flight games with Dean as referee, more than they have any other referee.
    • 8' Kyle Walker uses his considerable pace to motor down the right and pull the ball back to Bale. The Welshman has to stretch for it and sends the ball way over the bar.
    • 7' Lennon flits past Liam Ridgewell. His cross comes to Bale, who feeds it into Sandro's run into the box. The big Brazilian midfielder is dispossessed as he prepares to shoot.
    • 6' Bale swings in a teasing cross that Aaron Lennon should have attacked, but the winger didn't take the gamble.
    • 5' West Brom stay well organised during a spell of Spurs possession and they play the ball out calmly once they win the ball.
    • 4' Rafael van der Vaart tries a lofted high ball into lone striker Jermain Defoe. That's not the way to go.
    • 3' James Morrison receives some early attention from the West Brom medics, but he looks like he should be able to continue.
    • 2' Gareth Bale has his first touches as he hares down the left, but his shot is rushed and is well wide of the near post.
    • 1' West Brom kick off and we're underway!
    • 14:59 England manager Roy Hodgson is in attendance in north London. We're just waiting for the Spurs players to finish their huddle and Chas and Dave to finish on the PA and we'll have the kick-off...
    • 14:59 The players are out on the pitch now. We'll be underway shortly. You can share your thoughts on the game with me via Twitter @tony_mabert. Glory Glory or Boing Boing?
    • 14:57 Former Spurs captain Ledley King is in attendance for the first competitive game at the Lane since his retirement in the summer. The home fans plan to give a minute's applause in tribute to him in the 26th minute, the defender's old squad number.
    • 14:55 Head-to-head: Last season, Tottenham completed the league double over West Brom for the first time since 2002-03 - winning 1-0 at home and 3-1 away. West Brom have failed to win in their last eight visits to White Hart Lane in all competitions. They last won there 28 years ago, with a 3-2 victory in old Division One in November 1984.
    • 14:50 West Brom have won three and lost just one of their last six Premier League matches, but they have kept just one clean sheet in their last 17 Premier League away games.
    • 14:45 Pre-game bookmaker odds: Tottenham Hotspur 8/15, West Bromwich Albion 11/2, Draw 10/3
    • 14:40 Jermain Defoe has scored in each of his last three Premier League appearances for Spurs against West Brom.
    • 14:35 West Brom’s last win at White Hart Lane came in November 1984; since then they have lost six and drawn two of their visits to north London. The Baggies have a poor record in the capital winning just three and losing 22 of their 33 trips to London in the Premier League.
    • 14:30 Steve Clarke: "We'll try to build on the performance and result last week and White Hart Lane is a difficult place to go but we'll relish the challenge. The players relish it as well, which is really good. It was good for the first couple of days after beating Liverpool and then you have to move on. The games come thick and fast and we've got another difficult one this weekend. But we've prepared well, we've worked hard again this week and hopefully we're in the same frame of mind."
    • 14:25 Andre Villas-Boas: "We have to be sensible because they (West Brom) had an extremely good result against Liverpool, they are a team that is deadly on the counter-attack, so we have to take that into account with how we attack and when we attack. We’ve worked well during the week. It was a full week, no international break and hopefully we can go to White Hart Lane and get the result we all want."

  5. Why oh why have we got this man as a manager. We are a team not a project of an ego maniac.

  6. What kind of idiot have we brought in to manage this great club. Jenus is a dud and should have gone long ago and Gallas is still in the side. Perhaps next week AVB will pick the youth team to see if he can pick some jems from them.

From Patriatebob, on Sat 25 Aug 18:10
  7. OMG. It's not AVB and it's not Harry and it's not the players and it's not the club the problem is someone who's first name is Daniel and surname is Levy. There is an answer. BB.

From kwesi, on Sat 25 Aug 17:08
  17. I don't get it: first we were 1-0 up via Defoe, and this came up on the scorebaord. Another Defoe shot was ruled offside. Then Assou scores a 2nd, but it's still 1-0 and we still need a 2nd goal?!? Then Morrison and somebody head it against the bar, but it's not a goal, then it comes up as 1-1 then it's a draw after ages of injury time?! Pathetic anyway - how many more years (since Berbatov left) do we have to wait for a proper STRIKER when it's been obvious for years that's what we need, and a DEFENCE that does not panic under pressure. Back to the bad old days with a clot for a Manager! AGH
