90'+5
FULL-TIME. That was a pretty comprehensive display from Manchester City, really, wasn't it? Stevan Jovetic was lively and alert, Sergio Aguero was incisive and made an immediate impact. Liverpool have more injury worries - and will that perhaps add a little too much to the weight of expectation already on Mario Balotelli's shoulders? We'll see. Thanks for your company this evening.
90'+1
We have five additional minutes as Moreno opts to hop around for the remaining time.
90'
Alberto Moreno is the next man down on the floor - he's turned his ankle while nobody is anywhere near him. This isn't a good day for Liverpool.

86 mins: Glen Johnson has limped off for #LFC with a knock. Looks as though he'll be unable to continue. The Reds have used all three subs

83'

GOAL! It's one messy goal back for Liverpool, as Rickie Lambert's head, Pablo Zabaleta's shin and Joe Hart's body combine to get the ball over the line.
Liverpool Goal

Left Footed - Bottom Left

82'
Nasri tries to do too much - his ball into the box is intercepted and Liverpool heave forward one more time.
81'
Skrtel clogs the ball out for a corner - better to be safe than sorry.
80'

Lambert replaces Sterling for Liverpool, and Fernandinho replaces Jovetic for City.
Manchester City Substitution

3-0: Sergio Aguero has scored 2 goals in 10 PL minutes of play this season after scoring 0 in 316 minutes at the World Cup.

"Louis van Gaal is a football genius!" is now the refrain from the City end.

Liverpool Substitution

Liverpool

76'
Some terrific passing out of defence by City there, turning the pressure on its head.
75'

Liverpool trying to mix it up a bit in the closing minutes, Emre Can replacing Joe Allen.
Liverpool Substitution
73'
Rousing singing around the stadium now.

23 - Sergio Aguero had been on the pitch for only 23 seconds before scoring Man City's third goal. Introduction.

ASSIST Jesus Navas played a pinpoint long pass which Aguero latched on to and finished calmly for his second #BPL goal of the season #MCILIV

69'

GOAL! Well, that didn't take long. Aguero catches Liverpool napping, picking up a lovely ball from Navas on the right, and getting in front of the defence to fire underneath Mignolet's despairing hand.
Manchester City Goal

Right Footed - Bottom Right

69'

Dzeko isn't going to continue - Aguero replaces him.
Manchester City Substitution
66'
So with that sub we have former team-mates duelling on the right...and meanwhile Edin Dzeko is lying on his back on the floor with the imprint of Skrtel's studs down his thigh.

4 - Stevan Jovetic has scored four goals in two competitive games against Liverpool (two for City, two for Fiorentina). Nemesis.

Manchester City Substitution
65'

Jesus Navas joins the fray, replacing Silva.
64'
Belting run from Sturridge at a really acute angle, and the ball in was beautifully played by Sterling. Hart blocks him out again.
62'
Markovic's persistence plays in Sturridge, who can't get his shot in because Kompany is in the way, and Sterling, on the follow-up, can't get his either.
Liverpool Substitution
60'

A substitution as Coutinho departs to be replaced by Markovic.
58'
Manchester City are taking Liverpool apart now. They proably should have had a third there but the referee thought Dzeko had fouled his marker - it looked more like the other way round to me.
57'
Dzeko's ball from the left eludes everyone in the box, skimming out and away.

2 - Manchester City have now scored two goals in each of their last five Premier League games against Liverpool. Usual.

55'

GOAL! Jovetic doubles his tally for the evening with a touch of quintessential goal-poaching. He's left utterly unmarked as the ball zings across the box from Nasri on the right and rifles it home.
Manchester City Goal

Left Footed - Bottom Left

52'
Fernando gives away a free kick about 35 yards out, and Gerrard plays in Henderson at the back post. Zabaleta is livid with the entire world.
51'
Dzeko is bundled over and thinks he deserves a free kick.
50'
The corner reaches Jovetic's head, whose attempt is over the bar.
-
Straight up the other end and Silva plays in Dzeko who takes the ball on, with Moreno cutting in to knock it away for a corner.
49'

Sturridge fires in low and hard, but the flag is up.
47'
Liverpool are starting the second half as they ended the first, driving forwards.
46'
Liverpool are out early for the second half. Brendan Rodgers is wandering around in the rain and appears to be wondering where everyone else is.

1-0: Man City have not lost a PL home match in which they took the lead in five years (1-3 vs Fulham, Feb 2009).

45'+1
Ball wide to Toure from Jovetic, and he tries to bend a ball in towards the far post, but it's off-target, and that's it for this half.
45'
One minute of added time to play out here, and Liverpool are still pushing forward.

42. A goal from nothing has really ignited the game and the crowd. Just when Liverpool were getting on top, the champions strike!

1 - Manchester City have scored at least once in 69 of their last 70 Premier League home games. Fearsome.

42'
Well, they say that just before half-time is the best time to score, don't they? Particularly when your visitors haven't capitalised on their possession so far.
Manchester City Goal

Right Footed - Top Right

41'

GOAL! And Liverpool will be fuming with themselves. Very square defence, and Jovetic nips in around Alberto Moreno, who's swinging his leg at thin air.
40'
Neat little back heel into the path of Zabaleta, who is beaten to the ball by the collected efforts of the Liverpool defence.
38'
Liverpool are pressuring City well here, forcing them further and further back up the field without being able to get a ball in.

37'
Cheers as Toure gets a decision in his favour and against Sterling.
35'
Sterling and Clichy continue to battle on the right; Clichy wins this time, preventing the cross in and entirely happy with the throw-in conceded.
33'
Sturridge does really well to get a shot in, moving round Kompany after a ball in by Sterling on the right. He picks up the rebound as well, but no luck and City clear to launch the counter.
31'
Another free kick to Liverpool thanks to Clichy's challenge on Sterling. Gerrard takes, Hart punches clear. Sensing a pattern here.

Booking for Toure, who's prevented Coutinho's progress up the pitch.
28'
Lovely ball through from Toure, intercepted by Skrtel before it can reach Dzeko.
26'
Toure tries a back heel, which he executes well; it's just unfortunate that there was no team-mate there to receive the ball.
25'
Conditions certainly playing a part here, with the ball skidding across the top of the wet surface.
24'
Mignolet shouts to claim the ball in, but Fernando basically rugby-tackles him out of the air.
23'
Henderson thinks he's won a corner. The assistant referee disagrees. Henderson rages to no avail.
22'
Free kick to Liverpool taken by Gerrard, and Hart comes through the traffic to punch it clear.

Does Sterling really have to send defenders 'a reminder of his pace' every time he runs forward? Must become very tiresome for both parties.

20'
End-to-end still - one suspects that this is going to involve a lot of heavy sliding challenges prior to the end.
18'
Zabaleta's on the charge again - throw-in to City.
17'
Sterling tries to get it back in the mixer but City clear again.
16'
Hart reaches fingers to the ball, tipping it out for a second successive corner and perhaps more pertinently beyond the lurking Liverpool strikers.
15'
Toure takes a dig this time, attempting to bend it beyond Mignolet.

RT @MailSport: CROWD WATCH: Mario Balotelli and Adam Lallana watch on...dailym.ai/VKMfqN http://t.co/q5h59KpocZ

15'
Liverpool seem to think they're entitled to a penalty as everyone pushes each other in the box, but referee Michael Oliver gives the free kick City's way.
-
Zabaleta sneaks in at the far post to meet Clichy's cross but his volleyed shot is skied.
13'
Coutinho's trying to do everything himself in front of goal, and has the ball nicked off his toes.
11'
Gerrard takes it but it's straight into the eager arms of Hart.
10'
Free kick to Liverpool after Raheem Sterling is brought down in the sloppy conditions. It's out on the right.
9'
Great weighted long ball forward from Gerrard, brought down brilliantly by Sterling, but he can't direct the shot on the turn.

"He's gonna slip in a minute!" sing City fans.

Silva finding space behind Gerrard very easily here

7'
Chance for City! Confusion on the part of Lovren, leaving Dzeko in too much space in the middle, but his shot is wide.
6'
Clichy and Silva combine to launch a break, but they can't thread it through to Jovetic.
5'
Good run down the right into the middle from Sturridge, but the ball's just too far in front of Sterling.
4'
Liverpool trying to be too fancy in defence and unwittingly keeping themselves under pressure.
3'
Long balls forward to be chased by Jovetic, but no luck yet.
2'
Liverpool passing it around from the back for the moment.
1'
Manchester City kick off. One thing about the rain, the pitch is looking lovely and green.

Steady rain falling on the Etihad. City fans singing the Steven Gerrard song. It's definitely looking slippery out there.

19:58
Absolutely pelting rain in Manchester, mark you; this may not come as a surprise, of course.
19:55
The teams are in the tunnel; Joe Hart has appropriate amounts of towels just in case he needs to go and wash his hair at some point during the match.

Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini: "It's important to begin winning... especially to be winning points against teams as good as Liverpool."

19:30
Manuel Pellegrini says he wasn't tempted to start with Sergio Aguero, but suggests that he might get "more minutes" today and more again at the weekend.
19:15
Jamie Carragher on Balotelli: "He's got that football arrogance to go to the biggest venues and perform." He sympathises with the likes of Sergio Aguero having to play out of position in order to cover for his more maverick team-mate, however.

19:10
Brendan Rodgers has just been asked what Balotelli adds to his squad. "Trouble," is his mirthful answer. More seriously, he says that his new acquisition does need to settle down - "huge potential but needs to be consistent - if we can do that, we've got one hell of a player." He says he likes to talk to players and get a sense of them, and spent three hours talking to Balotelli about Liverpool, stressing that "behaviour is very, very important here...he's ready to take on that challenge. He's a very bright boy...a real good guy."
19:10
So Joe Allen is in for Lucas in the Liverpool midfield, Sergio Aguero sits on the Manchester City bench.
19:05
Balotelli is indeed planning to watch from the stands - there are pictures of him going into the ground, with a woolly hat that is appropriate for the drizzly conditions.
19:05
TEAMS: Manchester City: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Demichelis, Clichy, Fernando, Yaya Toure, Nasri, Silva, Jovetic, Dzeko. The players are here which means team news isn't too far away. What's your predicted starting XI for #mcfc tonight? http://t.co/RGk6E7XrlJ

18:40
Brendan Rodgers: "We had a couple of great games against Manchester City last season and, of course, they are the champions. But I don't think it will define everything. It's over the course of the 38 games. We know it's going to be a tough game and we'll go there and play how we've played before, with no fear and going to look to attack the game. We know we have the freedom, movement and pace that can hurt teams."
18:35
Manuel Pellegrini: "I always say to the players these games are games of six points, especially when you play at home against one of the most important squads in the Premier League in Liverpool. I cannot know whether Liverpool will be affected by last season or not. My way of thinking is that last season is finished and we are not thinking about it anymore. These are different games and different moments but it is important for our team to start winning points at home. For this week, most of the players will be not 100 percent but mostly ready. We have 13 or 14 players that are still in pre-season. We are just starting the season and maybe we don't have our squad in full fitness but this week, we have worked very hard and very well so I hope we can do a very good game."
18:30
It's been a busy day at Anfield, but unfortunately Mario Balotelli won't be playing tonight. He's already said that he'll be watching from the stands, so expect him to pull focus from the pitch as much as possible.
18:30
