90+3'
The full-time whistle sounds. Southampton gave a really good go of it, but were ultimately undone by an impressive City outfit. City move to within a point of league leaders Liverpool, still with a game in hand. Thanks for joining us today.
90'
We'll have three minutes of added time at the end of this match.
86'
POST!! Almost five, yet again. City are enjoying themselves now, and almost add to their tally as Toure is found on the edge of the penalty area. The Ivorian attempts to drill the ball into the far corner, but Gazzaniga is down early to get a finger tip on it and divert it onto the post.
84'
Nasri’s corner is whipped onto the six-yard box. The keeper comes for it but can’t get there, though his blushes are saved as Wanyama heads clear.
83'
Easy stuff for City now. They're just stroking the ball around themselves as Southamton chase their own shadows.
82'
ALMOST FIVE!! Negredo has the chance to end his goal drought as he pulls away from his marker and gallops into the Southampton penalty area. Gazzaniga is off his line in a flash to smother the Spaniard, denying him from 12 yards. Smart stop.
Manchester City Goal

GOAL!! It's four for City, and another lovely goal. Kompany starts it off as he sends Zabaleta down the right, allowing for the full-back to drill the ball across the face of the goal. Gazzaniga can't get there as Jovetic pokes home.
Southampton Substitution
79'

Jack Cork is replaced in what is Southampton's final change. Victor Wanyama, who has spent more time on the treatment table in recent months, is introduced.

Man City

Southampton

78'

Shocking!! Toure goes into the referee's book for simulation. There's absolutely no need to do that.
77'

City now make a change. David Silva's number is up, and the Spaniard receives a huge applause from the home crowd. Stevan Jovetic will be given the final 13 minutes of this match.
Manchester City Substitution
76'

Sam Gallagher is introduced for the visiting side and replaces Steve Davies.
Southampton Substitution
74'
BIG, BIG CHANCE FOR SOUTHAMPTON!! A neat little move on the edge of the City box culminates in Lallana’s reverse pass playing in Lambert. The striker is definitely onside and only has Hart to beat, but he drags his shot wide of the goal. Great chance to get his side back in the match.
73'
Negredo now peels off the back of Fonte and is spotted by Silva, who attempts the diagonal pass. The flag stays down and the Southampton defence are frantically trying to make the ground, but Gazzaniga is off his line in a flash to clear.
71'
Chance for Negredo to wrap it up, but the Spaniard is obviously lacking in confidence and makes a real mess of what looks like a great chance. Nasri’s pinpoint pass has the Spaniard through on goal, but, rather than shooting, he comes back inside and gets his feet in a muddle before being stripped of the ball.
70'
Great work from Lallana once more. He shows a turn of pace to wriggle away from two challenges and move the ball forward. There’s a real lack of support from the England midfielder, though, and he is forced back. City are back in numbers and look in no danger.
69'
A lovely flick from Silva bamboozles the Southampton backline and sets Nasri free. The Frenchman dawdles on the ball, which gives Shaw time to recover and hack the ball clear.
Manchester City Yellow card

Man City

Southampton

67'

Javi Garcia goes into referee Chris Foy’s book for a poor challenge on Cork. Southampton looked to be making inroads and the Spaniard made sure that the move stopped there.
66'
City break following a Southampton attack and have men forward. Negredo is sent down the left, but the overlapping Kolarov assumes responsibility and drills the ball into the penalty area. Fonte misses the cross at the near post, but Lovren is on hand to clear.
65'
As they did in the first half, Southampton are starting to get a foothold now after spending much of the opening minutes defending for their lives. Lallana produces some quick feet down the left before forcing Zabaleta into conceding a corner.
Manchester City Substitution
64'

Yes, yes it will. Edin Dzeko makes way and is replaced by Negredo.
63'
Alvaro Negredo is being readied on the touchline. Will that shocking miss be Dzeko’s final bit of action in this match?
62'
Lambert and Lallana combine deep into the City half. The two work their way to the penalty area, but Lambert attempts one too many passes and concedes possession. Southampton have shown a bit more purpose in these last couple of minutes or so…
61'
A poor challenge from Ward-Prowse puts an end to a brief spell of possession for the visitors. The substitute miscontrols the ball and is forced into challenging Kolarob in the air, but the youngster doesn’t have eyes for the ball and barges the City full-back to the ground.
60'
That really was a shocker from Dzeko. It was harder to miss from there, and even harder to put the ball out for a throw-in. He’ll want to forget that…
58'
WHAT A MISS!! Dzeko is sent through on goal and forces Gazzaniga into a smart stop at his near post, but the ball isn’t sent to safety – and the Bosnian has another bite at the cherry. With the keeper on the ground, Dzeko somehow manages to miscue his effort and send the ball out for a throw-in.
57'
“SHOOOOT” is the plea from the home crowd as Nasri’s poor cross finds its way to Kolarov on the edge of the penalty area. Lovren throws himself in front of the ball and makes the interception.
56'
Still all City. Nasri now whips in a corner from the right, but the cross is a poor one and is headed away at the near post by Shaw. Relentless.
55'
The referee got that one spot on. Replays show that it was a fair shoulder challenge from Fonte – not enough to send Toure to the ground.
54'
There’s a big shout for a City penalty as Toure hits the deck inside the Southampton box, but referee Chris Foy is not interested. The big Ivorian goes down far too easily, and that probably goes against him.
53'
Jose Fonte is given the run-around by Silva. The defender is turned inside and out before finally conceding a free-kick. He was made to look a bit silly, there…
52'
As it was in the opening minutes of the first half, City have seen all of the ball. They have that two-goal cushion now, and will do well to let that slip.
50'
Silva bursts clear following shouts for a handball on Shaw. The Spaniard moves into the penalty area and is then furious when he realises that the whistle had in fact been blown for a free-kick against the Southampton full-back.
49'
Demichelis!! Oh dear. The centre-half has the chance to make a relatively simple clearance, but makes a real hash of it, looping the ball up into the air and towards Hart. The keeper doesn’t know whether to come or stay, but eventually clears up the Argentine’s mess.
48'
A nice move from City comes to nothing. Silva threads the ball through the eye of a needle to find Zabaleta, but the cross is poor and the Southampton stopper gathers.
47'
Another poor kick from Gazzaniga. The third choice keeper has looked shaky today and miscues his clearance. City attacking early on.
46'
The second half is under way. City kick-off.
Manchester City Substitution
45+4'
The half-time whistle blows. City are well in control after two goals in three stoppage-time minutes.
Manchester City Goal

Header - Bottom Right

45+3'

GOAL!! City make it three before the half-time whistle, and this game looks over. Kolarov is sent free down the left and fizzes in a magnificent ball, right onto the head of Dzeko five yards from goal. There was nothing Gazzaniga could have done about it, and you’ve just got to applaud that goal. There was a big doubt about Nasri’s goal, but nothing wrong with the third.
Manchester City Goal

Right Footed - Bottom Center

45'
We'll have four minutes of added time at the end of this half, following that stoppage for the injured Rodriguez.
45'

GOAL!! And what a goal that is!! A really, really intricate passing move ends with Nasri sliding the ball past Gazzaniga from six yards. There's a big shout for offside as Silva receives the ball in the box, but you can't take anything away from the quality of the move. It was worked beautifully and finished expertly. 2-1.
44'

Fernandinho goes into the book for a deliberate handball. Silly decision, that.
Manchester City Yellow card

Man City

Southampton

43'
Frustration continues to build as we approach half-time. Hart’s throw to Dzeko puts the Bosnian in a bit of trouble, and when the hosts concede possession, the home crowd demand a free-kick, but there’s nothing in it. The men in blue will be looking forward to half-time.
42'
City are looking a little rattled. The usually-steady Toure swipes at a loose ball at the far post and miskicks it completely, almost allowing for Lallana to steal in and poke the ball home.
40'
It’s not going quite according to plan for City. There’s a real lack of atmosphere inside the Etihad, and a real lack of cohesion on the pitch. City look tired and devoid of any creativity. Pellegrini is surely to have some choice words for his side at the break.
39'
Lallana has some space inside the City penalty are and is found by Davis scooped pass, but the flag is up and the move brought to an end. It was a close decision, but ultimately the right one. Southampton in the ascendancy.
38'
Very few sides are able to go toe-to-toe in the Premier League, especially at the Etihad, but the visitors have done just that. In fact, aside from the opening five minutes of this match, they have been the better side.
37'

GOAL!! Hart guesses the right way, but Lambert's spot-kick is too good, creeping just inside of the right-hand post.
37'
Zabaleta is the guilty man, bringing down Cork needlessly just inside the City penalty area. Rickie Lambert will step up, and there is usually very little doubt when he does so.
Southampton Penalty

Right Footed - Top Right

36'
PENALTY TO SOUTHAMPTON!!!
34'
CROSSBAR!! Dzeko should score Toure’s set-piece from the right-hand side of the penalty area is sent towards the unmarked Bosnian at the far post, but his header cannons off the bar.
32'
Southampton are really struggling to clear their lines. City continue to attack, and send a flurry of decent crosses into the penalty area, but the visitors survive.
31'
Lambert has dropped deep on a number of occasions so far this afternoon. The forward does often provide so much more for Pochettino’s side, and has undoubtedly been their brightest player today – free-kick aside – and almost picks out Davis with a cross-field ball. It’s just overhit, however, and City have a goal kick.
30'
A nice spell from City, who work the ball well as they make their way towards the Southampton penalty area. There’s a half-shout for a penalty as the ball pops up and catches the chest of Lovren before Jesus Navas blasts the ball wide from 18 yards.
29'
Lambert receives an earful from a few of his teammates for the weak effort, and rightly so. It was very poor, and the cross would have been the much better option.
28'
Southampton earn a free-kick in a decent position on the edge of the City area. The visitors pack the box, but Lamert opts to go for goal and gets it all wrong.
27'
News coming from the touchline is that Rodriguez is to be taken straight to hospital. Terrible news, but Southampton stil have a game to get on with and trail 1-0.
26'

James Ward-Prowse, who made way in today's starting line-up, has come on in place of the injured Rodriguez.
Southampton Substitution
24'
England boss Roy Hodgson is in the crowd and will not be happy to see the young man like this. Rodriguez’s World Cup dream looks to be over. A real shame for the youngster who has been terrific for the Saints this season.
23'
Real concern for England striker Rodriguez. The former Burnley man lands awkwardly on his knee and is in instant agony. The 24-year-old is in tears on the field and is obviously aware that this is a serious injury.
21'
There’s even more of a cheer now as City think they’ve won a throw-in, only for it to be awarded to the visitors.
20'
City are really struggling to string more than five passes together at present. Every misplaced ball is greeted with a huge groan from the Etihad faithful. There’s real discontent inside the stadium from the home support, and the away fans are cheering every pass. Entertaining stuff.
19'
Great play from Shaw, who drops his shoulder and bursts away from Zabaleta to cross. It’s lofted into the box with no real pace, hanging up there which allows Kompany to clear.
18'
After that woeful start from the Saints, they’ve really come back into this game. They’re attacking in numbers and are doing so with real confidence. Chambers finds some space down the right, finding Lallana with the cross, but it’s a difficult chance and the header is off target.
16'
City’s turn to attack now, and they’re awarded a free-kick wide on the left for a foul on Silva. The Spaniard takes the set-piece and picks out Kompany 12 yards from goal, but the Belgian can only balloon his header over the bar.
15'
Oooh, Lallana should do better. He’s found superbly by Lambert, who spots the run and whips in a great cross. Lallana has pulled free of Demichelis, but his control is poor and Hart watches the ball roll out for a goal kick.
14'
Southampton are starting to ask questions now, and the home fans are not too impressed. They just can’t keep hold of the ball. Cork lofts in a delightful cross, over the top of the City defence and into the path of Lambert, but Kompany recovers well to clear.
13'
Another corner for the visiting side, but nothing comes of it. Davis overhits this one and the ball flies over the pack inside the City box and out for a throw-in on the near side.
12'
Encouraging signs for Pochettino’s men. They’ve finally settled down and are enjoying a decent spell of possession now. City still look very comfortable, but it’s more of an open contest.
11'
Toure now comes to City’s rescue. Davis’s corner from the left looks to be heading for Lambert, but the Ivorian is able to flick it away and out to safety.
10'
First bit of attacking intent from Southampton. Lallana and Rodriguez link up well down the left before the latter swings in a dangerous ball, leaving Hart routed to his line. Lambert rises highest at the back post, but the ball drifts over the top of his head by a couple of inches.
9'
Southampton can’t find a way out of their own half at present. City are pressing high and are doing so in numbers. Dzeko now bursts down the line but is stopped in his tracks thanks to Shaw’s terrific sliding challenge.
8'
The Saints are at sixes and sevens at the back. It’s relentless from the hosts, and the Hampshire-based outfit look visibly shaken.
7'
It’s been ALL City in these opening seven minutes. A real high tempo start for Manuel Pellegrini’s side. Pochettino is cutting a frustrated figure on the touchline.
6'
Almost two!! Zabaleta wriggles free on the right touchline following City’s throw-in. The Argentine pulls the ball back to Nasri on the edge of the penalty area, but the Frenchman can’t direct his first-time effort on goal.
5'
Shaky start for the debutant Gazzaniga in goal. The keeper receives a back pass but his control lets him down and he nearly lets in Dzeko. He sends the ball out for a throw, much to the delight of the City fans.
4'

GOAL!! No doubt whatsoever. Toure steps up, sending Gazzaniga the wrong way to convert his sixth penalty of the season.
4'
Certainly a penalty. Jose Fonte took the bait, sticking a leg out as Dzeko wriggled into the box. Yaya Toure to take this. Any doubt?
3'
PENALTY TO CITY!! TWO MINUTES ON THE CLOCK. GREAT CHANCE FOR A PERFECT START FOR CITY!!
Manchester City Penalty

Right Footed - Bottom Right

2'
There’s an early stoppage in this one. Silva gets hold of the ball early on and attacks down the right, but he’s sent flying by Shaw. A real big tackle, that one. You get the feeling that if it wasn’t so early in this match he’d have been shown a yellow.
1'
This match is underway. The visitors kick off.
12:40
The two sets of players are currently lining up in the tunnel ahead of the pre-match formalities. Not long to go until kick-off now...
12:35
How do you see this game going today? Will it be a run-of-the-mill victory for City as they continue their charge for Premier League glory, or can the Saints spring a surprise and leave the Etihad with something other than their tail between their legs? Let me know on the comments section at the bottom of the page or on Twitter @JoshuaHayward99.
12:30
Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino has made a couple of changes to his side. Goalkeeper Artur Boruc has been forced out through injury, so Pochettino has awarded Paulo Gazzaniga a starting berth. Outfield, and Morgan Schneiderlin comes in for James Ward-Prowse.
12:25
Manuel Pellegrini makes just one change from the side that drew with Arsenal. Aleksandar Kolarov is preferred at left-back, replacing Frenchman Gael Clichy. The Chilean coach has continued with Edin Dzeko up front, meaning that Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic start on the bench.
12:20
The teams are in - MAN CITY: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Demichelis, Kolarov, Navas, Fernandinho, Toure, Nasri, Silva, Dzeko... Subs: Pantilimon, Lescott, Richards, Garcia, Milner, Jovetic, Negredo /// SOUTHAMPTON: Gazzaniga, Chambers, Fonte, Lovren, Shaw, Cork, Schneiderlin, S. Davis, Lallana, Rodriguez, Lambert... Subs: Cropper, Clyne, Wanyama, Ward-Prowse, Guly, Hooiveld, Gallagher.
12:15
Southampton's Victor Wanyama was due for an assessment before the game. The former Celtic midfielder has been on the sidelines for a month with a leg injury, but could be in line for a return today. The teams are due to be announced shortly, so we'll see if Wanyama is deemed fit enough to feature for the Saints.
12:10
City will be without top scorer Sergio Aguero for today's match. The Argentina striker is back in training after four games out with a hamstring injury but is not yet match-fit and next week's clash with title rivals Liverpool is now the target. Centre-back Matija Nastasic, who has been out for two months with a knee problem, also remains on the sidelines.
12:05
A victory for Manuel Pellegrini's side today would see them close to within one point of league leaders Liverpool, who take on West Ham tomorrow afternoon. The Citizens also have a game-in-hand over the Merseyside outfit and will be hoping today can give them a boost in their hunt for a second Premier League trophy in three years.
12:00
