    • Valencia CF
    • 90+3' There goes the final whistle! A 1-0 win for Barcelona. They were fortunate to escape with three points. Valencia could easily have grabbed a draw. But Barca were probably the better side on the night.
    • 90+1' We are into three minutes of time added on.
    • 89' Jonas whips a volley over the bar from the edge of the box. That had Valdes scrambling backwards, but just too much air under the ball.
    • 88' Glorious chance in the middle for Victor Ruiz. Heads over the bar with Valdes flapping at fresh air. That could and should have been the equaliser. Barca caught out at Tino Costa's corner.
    • 87' Xavi decides to try his luck, but ends up clobbering a shot straight at Ruiz. This seems to be the story of the night for Barca.
    • 86' Pedro taken out of the action by Rami, who is booked for that challenge as Barca tried to break at speed.
    • 85' Sanchez departs to be replaced by Sergio Busquets.
    • 84' Valdes seemed to lose the flight of that corner, but Barca do enough to squirm the ball clear. Valencia finishing on a high here.
    • 83' Chance then for Valencia to break here as Song sticks a foot out to put a Soldado pass out for a corner to the visitors.
    • 82' Messi crowded out by five white shirts. So many Valencia defenders in there. Has been an admirable effort. But their real problem is finding an equaliser from somewhere.
    • 81' Valdes plucks the ball out of the air with Rami challenging for a high ball in the Barca area.
    • 80' Messi drills the free-kick straight into the wall. Disappointing end to that effort. Valencia survive another hairy moment.
    • 79' Another change for Valencia as Valdez takes over from Feghouli.
    • 78' Song wins the ball before playing the ball to Messi. He scampers up the park before Rami brings him down on the edge of the Valencia box.
    • 77' Pereira with a decent cross into the middle, but Soldado is the only man in the area as Pique heads clear.
    • 76' Two banks of four has been so hard to break down for Barca this evening. This has shades of Chelsea's performance in the Champions League. But a lot more assured in defence.
    • 75' Viera has been brought on to take over from Guardado.
    • 74' Changes coming for Valencia as Mascherano receives some treatment. All the visitors need now is a goal to go with their performance.
    • 73' Better defending this time by Mascherano to win the ball ahead of Jonas. The Barca man is going to need some attention for a blow to the head.
    • 72' Feghouli is taken out of the action late by Sanchez and here is another chance to lift this ball into the box.
    • 71' Valenica growing in belief the longer this goes on. Soldado cuts a frustrated figure after Guardado had overcooked a pass.
    • 70' Guardado sees a deflected shot land safely in the arms of Valdes in the Barca goal. Worth a hit, but never had the pace to trouble the goalkeeper from that range.
    • 69' Some superb skills in the box by Messi but this time Victor Ruiz is on hand to thump the ball away. Soldado continues to look for the ball over the top from deep.
    • 68' Sanchez tries to cut ball across the face of the Barca goal, but Rami was there to make the clearance. Barca getting little or no change out of this Valencia defence.
    • 67' Valencia might well look for a change here. Their players have worked so hard tonight to close down space.
    • 66' Barca rework the ball as only Barca can do, but Valencia are quick to cut the space and time down as they have done all night long.
    • 65' Stunning piece of skill by Xavi to bring the ball out of his own half. Iniesta seemed to carry the ball out of play, but the referee waved play on.
    • 64' Valencia looking so comfortable in defence. Has been an impressive effort from them. Cissokoho deemed to be offside. Another tight call goes against the visitors.
    • 63' Iniesta trying to link with Xavi and Messi. A more recognisable attacking format for the home side now with those three to the fore.
    • 62' Valencia certainly proving to be an obstacle here as Fabregas departs to be replaced by Iniesta. A disappointing night for the former Arsenal man.
    • 61' Barca going to bring on Andres Iniesta here. Iniesta fresh from being named UEFA's European footballer of the year the other day.
    • 60' That is a huge decision. Inches in that decision. Valencia must take heart from that moment.
    • 59' Victor Ruiz has the ball in the net from Costa's free-kick, but he is just offside. Wasn't much in that, but the referee probably called it right.
    • 58' Feghouli takes a tumble under pressure from Mascherano and this is a free-kick situation that Valencia could exploit.
    • 57' Adriano ends another patient move by dragging a shot straight into the clutches of Diego Alves. Nice football by Barca.
    • 56' Barcelona would head for the international break top of La Liga with nine points from three games with a win here, but it is obvious there is work to be done. Again they keep ball at the halfway line.
    • 55' Valencia sticking doggedly to their tactics. Rami comes in with a superb tackle on Fabregas. Had to time that right and did it well.
    • 54' Should really have been a 2-0 lead for Barca. But it is not. And all Valencia are looking for here is one more thrust going forward. One goal will do the trick for them.
    • 53' Fabregas lifts the ball over the bar from 12 yards out! Lovely play by Sanchez to turn and set him up, but the finish wasn't there.
    • 52' The game slowly starting to open up here. Both sides trying to get forward as much as possible. Lovely ball across goal by Alba, but Valencia defend that situation well.
    • 51' An offside flag goes up against Adriano. This Valencia side keeping their shape very well tonight in the Camp Nou.
    • 50' Some delightful play by Messi. Picks out Adriano, but this time his shot clears the bar by some distance.
    • 49' One change at the break to bring you news of with Dani Alves departing to be replaced by Jordi Alba.
    • 48' Mascherano across to win the ball from Soldado out wide. Had to make that challenge. Barca doing well to clear a couple of corners.
    • 47' Valdes smacks the ball out of play after Jonas sees a shot blocked by Pique. Decent start to the half by Valencia.
    • 46' The second half is off and running. Barca on the ball. One of the most standard phrases in football.
    • 45+1' There goes the whistle as Cissokho crowds out Messi. A 1-0 lead for Barca courtesy of Adriano's first goal at the Camp Nou.
    • 44' We are into one minute of time added on in the first period.
    • 43' Diego Alves forced to touch the ball out of play under pressure from Song.
    • 42' Barca with 72 percent of possession, and eight shots. But only one goal. Just keeping the ball at will with Valencia dangerous on the break.
    • 41' Valencia take up a good position in the Barca half, but a poor cross by Jonas. Should have been better than that. Ball is out of play.
    • 40' Valencia will not be too displeased if they can get to the sanctuary of their dressing room only one down. Have kept this very tight tonight.
    • 39' Song picks out Adriano before Messi gives the ball away. Don't usually see that. Finally some respite for the visiting side.
    • 38' Ball keeps coming back to Valencia, who can't seem to get out of their box. Alves's cross is headed clear. Solid defending.
    • 37' Barca settle into their usual rythmn in the opposition half. Stringing passes from side to side. One touch and pass. And on it goes.
    • 36' Feghouli swerves into the Barca box after showing some nice control, but he ends up walloping the ball miles wide of goal. Needed a cross there. Decent move though.
    • 35' Valencia with only one shot at the home goal courtesy of that effort by Soldado earlier on that just breezed beyond Valdes's right hand post.
    • 34' Albelda guilty of a late tackle on Messi as he tried to dance free. Barca content to head backwards before going forwards again.
    • 33' Barca would like to put some distance between themselves and Valencia at half-time. Enough threats in that visiting side to make life uncomfortable for the home side.
    • 32' Soldado really should be booked for that. All a bit embarrassing it must be said. Here come Barca through Sanchez, but this time his control lets him down. A goalkick to the visitors.
    • 31' Soldado has gone down. Poor, poor stuff. Clear dive. Trying to get Pique sent off after his earlier booking.
    • 30' Adriano wins the ball from Jonas. Fine tackle. Had to get that spot on inside the home area.
    • 29' Alves just failing to make contact with a ball drilled along the box. Song wins a header in the middle of the park. He is making his debut tonight.
    • 28' Ronaldo scored his 150th goal in Real Madrid's 3-0 win over Granada. Read about it here.... Ronaldo reaches landmark
    • 27' Guardado has been booked. Silly booking after he failed to retreat the sufficient distance to let Barca take a free-kick.
    • 26' Diego Alves probably can't believe he hasn't lost two goals. Barca smelling blood in this first half.
    • 25' Fabregas chips the ball wide of goal from Messi's pass. How did he miss that? Should have been 2-0 and possibly game over. Even at this stage of the match.
    • 24' Valencia forced to live off scraps on the counter attack. So, so difficult for the visitors to build up any concerted period of pressure.
    • 23' Alves forced to make a stop seconds later from Pedro's effort. Fine save. Barca warming to the challenge after Adriano's stunning opener.
    • 22' GOAL! Xavi works the short corner and Adriano thumps a blistering shot high into the net from 25 yards out. What a finish that is.
    • 21' Messi's shot whips off the thigh off Rami and over. Barca have their first corner of the night here.
    • 20' Valdes thumps the ball down the park from the back. Valencia trying to close down as much space as possible which is easier said than done on this massive park.
    • 19' Sanchez goes for the loose ball in the ball from Xavi's pass, but Alves races out to smother it. We remain at 0-0. Valencia will be happy with their start to this match.
    • 18' Alves dives to push away Messi's header from Alves's dinked cross. Astonishing how much space Messi was given there.
    • 17' But Valencia are holding firm with this 4-4-1-1 formation. Working a treat from them so far.
    • 16' Barca keeping the ball with some relish as they usually do. Trying to bring Adriano into the play as much as possible. Fabregas showing some nice control in the area.
    • 15' Messi left unmarked in the box from Adriano's cutback, but he can't direct the header at goal as it drops wide of the target.
    • 14' Ruiz flies into a strong challenge on Messi, and that does not please the Barca fans. Don't like to see their idol being messed around.
    • 13' I think that was a bit harsh. Not sure that was worthy of a caution, but a caution it is.
    • 12' A clash of heads here. And the referee has stopped the play. In fact, Pique is being booked for elbowing Jonas in the head.
    • 11' Soldado sends a curling shot inches wide of goal. Brilliant effort by the forward. Superb stuff and that almost hit the net from the edge of the box. Warning signs there for Barca.
    • 10' A quietish start to the match. Valencia boosted by that 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in their opening match of the season. Look well up for this.
    • 9' Alves tries his luck with a 30-yard drive which is caught by his name-sake in the Valencia goal.
    • 7' That said, Valencia are looking sharp on the counter.
    • 5' Barca, as one would expect, begin dominating possession from the get-go.
    • 1' And we are underway!
    • 20:30 The teams are out on the pitch, kick-off is coming up live, next!
    • 20:25 Bit of an overlap in a strange Spanish scheduling scenario, but Real Madrid's game at home to Granada is in its closing stages at present just before we kick off in Catalonia. Mourinho's men lead 3-0, and it's well worth opening up the extra tab on your browser: Real v Granada: LIVE

From Daz, on Mon 3 Sep 19:48
  3. I think both Barça and Madrid need a little more time to settle into the league. U shouldn't forget that its the same Valencia that drew madrid on Matchday 1, that Barça won last night. So, y'all should just chill a bit... There's still plenty time...and plenty matches to show who's (Ronaldo and Messi) form can carry their team to win trophies.

From kenneth ken, on Mon 3 Sep 10:35
  4. Well that I can agree with. I usually like to wait until seasons end to make judgments though. I still think both are tremendously skilled players anywho.

From Nick, on Sun 2 Sep 23:40
  5. Exactly though, on current form Ronaldo is better. I'm saying he has surpassed messi on recent form. Messi couldn't do it for barca against chelsea in the champions league, including a missed penalty. He couldn't do it at the nou camp against real where they effectively lost the title last season. He couldn't do it in the super cup besides one piece of magic from the free kick which was all he did in that match really. Ronaldo is better on current form.

From Daz, on Sun 2 Sep 23:04
  6. those particular goals are more important, but that is of recent. Im looking at the overall picture. Messi is constantly scoring goals when the team needs it most, most notably the hat trick over brazil for the win. Although it was only a friendly, in terms of big plays, thats as big as it gets

From Nick, on Sun 2 Sep 22:56
  7. any one wants to compare between ronaldo and messi,, must understand talent is the real factor, messi has a talent he got the gift he knows what he is doing,, ronaldo is great player too but hes is coming from hard training , he trains very hard, no concerns he is fantastic player but not even close to messi he cas score 10 goals every match and messi nothing they are different i enjoy watching messi and he is great and hes personality is awesome , ronaldo needs to grow up he got lots of ego,, and too cocky ,,after all maybe after when he retires he can work for play boy ,,

From RaMi, on Sun 2 Sep 22:52
  8. to all those madshit fans, Barca won and is on top of the table, so you all can get lost together with your gaynaldo

From Amir, on Sun 2 Sep 22:50
  9. @Nick. Ronaldo has scored in his last 5 consecutive matches against barca. 2 in the semi finals of the champions league against bayern. And basically was portugal's only goal scorer in their euro 2012 semi final run. How're they not important goals?

From Daz, on Sun 2 Sep 22:45
  10. at 39 stop watching porn

From Jean, on Sun 2 Sep 22:25
  11. When Cristano scores more important goals, then I will say hes better. But the difference between them literally comes down to play style. CR may be more entertaining to watch, but Messi gets the job done. They are both 10/10 in my book, and anyone who says otherwise is just a fanboy of either one. You cant be a football fan and not respect both of them as players

From Nick, on Sun 2 Sep 22:24
  12. Valencia has had so many chances to capitalize. This was a much closer match than I expected given the score the last time they met, but that offside call didnt make or break the game.
