    • 51' Soldado is now down after a clash with Arbeloa. Looked innocuous, and the Bernabeu crowd are letting him know that.
    • 50' Victor Ruiz sees yellow for a rash challenge of Higuain, who was running at the Valencia defence.
    • 48' Ozil delivers an excellent cross from the left that Mathieu has to hook away for a Real Madrid throw-in.

    • 46' Real Madrid sub: Albiol on, Pepe off.
    • HT How will the second half go? Let me know on Twitter
    • HT Plenty of talking points at half time. Real Madrid pegged back by Jonas's header after dominating much of the game. But Casillas's welfare will be of concern to Mourinho. Will be interesting to see whether the goalkeeper emerges for the second half.
    • HT HT Real Madrid 1-1 Valencia
    • 45'+4 Feghouli gets to the byline and attempts to cross in for Soldado, but Coentrao concedes the corner; a corner which Real clear.
    • 45'+3 Casillas looks in a bad way. A real chance he'll be replaced at the break.
    • 45'+2 Coentrao plays the ball in from the left but Higuain is beaten to it on the penalty spot. Jose Mourinho gesturing from the touchline, encouraging his players to pin Valencia back.
    • 45' Pepe is back on, but Casillas looks concussed despite playing on.
    • 45' Diarra is playing as a makeshift centre-back at the moment and he gives the ball straight to Soldado. But Diarra recovers to steal the ball back.
    • 44' Pepe has left the field to have stitches, while Casillas is still on the field receiving treatment.
    • 43' Casillas and Pepe have clashed heads here. Jonas got between them both and the Real Madrid pair clashed heads and this looks nasty.
    • 42' GOAL! Real Madrid 1-1 Valencia (Jonas). Costa whips a dangerous free-kick into the box from the right and Jonas gets his head to it before Casillas and flicks it into the empty net.
    • 40' Alves races out of his goal to clear from Higuain. The ball goes straight to Ronaldo, who volleys it straight back at goal with an audacious volley from 40 yards. It drops well wide.
    • 38' Coentrao hits the deck in the box, but he's fairly tackled by Feghouli, who had tracked back from midfield.
    • 37' Di Maria picks out Ronaldo on the right. The Portuguese pulls it right back to Ozil on the edge of the box, but he miscues his shot. Higuain tries to improvise with an overhead kick to help the ball along, but it flies over the top.
    • 35' Coentrao, who is yet to score in a Real Madrid shirt, has wasted a good chance there.
    • 34' Coentrao is picked out by Ronaldo's wonderful first-time pass. Coentrao is through on goal but delays his cross to Higuain before eventually opting to shoot into the side-netting.
    • 32' Ramos is back on the field and Real win a corner as they look to keep the heat on the visitors.
    • 30' Feghouli completes an eventful few minutes for him with a yellow card for the challenge.
    • 29' Ramos has taken a blow to the head, and is receiving treatment.
    • 27' An even bigger miss by Feghouli - but luckily for him the flag is up. Feghouli is offside as he is put clean through, but fails to take the ball around Casillas. Casillas gets up quickly to smother the follow-up.
    • 25' We're over halfway through the first-half and Valencia have finally crafted a chance: Mathieu beats Pepe to the ball at the byline and hooks in a cross from the left to Feghouli, but he skies his shot under pressure from Coentrao. Big miss.
    • 24' Incidentally, Xabi Alonso only scored the one La Liga goal last season.
    • 23' Xabi Alonso goes very close as he tries to bend the ball in from a tight angle. An ambitious effort, but one that only missed the far post by a whisker.
    • 22' The incessant Real Madrid pressure continues, although they haven't created much since going ahead.
    • 20' Pepe makes a superbly-timed tackle on Soldado, who looked to be winding up a shot from the edge of the box.
    • 18' This is little more than an evening stroll for Real Madrid at the moment. Valencia just not posing any threat to Jose Mourinho's side.
    • 16' Alonso swings it into the danger area, but Valencia hack it away. They try to attack Real on the counter, but that man Diarra is there to break things up.
    • 15' Quick turn of pace by Coentrao sees him fly past two Valencia defenders before forcing a corner that Alonso will take.
    • 14' Chance for Valencia as Costa's free-kick into the box evades everyone and Casillas is forced to leap to his right and turn the ball around his post for a corner. Casillas almost caught out there.
    • 12' But Casillas watches the corner sail high over everyone in the box, and Real clear comfortably.
    • 11' Arbeloa concedes a corner as Valencia seek an immediate response.
    • 10' GOAL! Real Madrid 1-0 Valencia (Higuain). Higuain beats the offside trap but has to efforts saved well by Alves. But Higuain hammers it into the roof of the net at the third time of asking and Real Madrid lead inside 10 minutes.
    • 8' Valencia struggling to get a foothold into this one.
    • 6' Ozil takes a tumble in the box under pressure from Costa, but there was nothing in that at all. Ozil rather obviously looking for a penalty.
    • 5' Predictably perhaps, Real Madrid are all over Valencia in the early stages. Diarra really throwing himself about in the middle of the park. Diarra a surprise selection ahead of Khedira, of course.
    • 3' Real Madrid trying to test Alves early on. This time Di Maria's drive from 25 yards drifts just wide.
    • 2' Ronaldo collects the ball on the left, cuts inside onto his right foot, and fires a low early warning shot just wide of Alves's post.
    • 1' KICK OFF. Valencia get us underway
    • 17.59 Valencia start the match with two ex-Real Madrid stars in their starting XI. Roberto Soldado leads the line for the visitors and new summer signing Fernando Gago starts in the engine room alongside Tino Costa.
    • 17.57 For Real, there is plenty of talk as to whether Luka Modric will sign from Spurs. The deal is expected to go through on Monday. Today, Jose Mourinho has sprung a surprise in midfield, with Lassana Diarra preferred to Sami Khedira, who was a regular starter for the Spanish champions alongside Xabi Alonso last season.
    • 17.55 Valencia travel to the Bernabeu having not even scored a goal there since 2008.
    • 17.50 Real Madrid XI: Casillas, Arbeloa, Pepe, Ramos, Coentrao; Lassana Diarra, Alonso; Di Maria, Ozil, Ronaldo; Higuain. 1. shameless Barca with their fans. Cheats always think others are like them. Time shall tell. Cheating scums in both champions and spanish league. I hope you scums remember what chelsea did to Barca home and away. Before Real madrid thrashed Barca. More will be done to Barca this season. I hope Chelsea did not pay the referees to beat chicken Barca home and away.

  5. Only the First game of the season and the #$%$ Spanish officials have already started favouring Madrid with these decisions. Last year Mallorca should have been two up with a goal which only GOD knows how it was disallowed, and already this year a blatant goal disallowed for Soldado. Disgusted!

  10. Winstone Churchill is one of my lifelong heroes. The Winstone Chruchill on here needs to spend a lot more time looking at football leagues year by year because he knows nothing about it. This game, Winstone, was the first game of the season. For example in the English Premier League last season, Manchester City were way out in front, then Manchester United took a lead and everyone said it was all over with 3 games to go. The end result was City won the title on goal difference, and that was with a goal with the last kick of last game. Just the first game kid

  13. Good god. Why use Özil and Diarra when they lose the ball all time?? Khedira and Kaka are so much better. Put Ramos as RB because he cannot defend. Bring in Varane at CB. Use Marcelo when facing teams who park the bus as he is better in attacking than Coentrao. Oh, and we should have had a penalty when Gago fouled Di Maria in the box.
