FULL TIME: Real Madrid 1-1 Atletico Madrid
Real Madrid are presing hard for a winner as the clock winds down, but Di Maria's corner doesn't beat the first man on the front post. And still the home side flood forward with Atletico sitting deep.
Three minutes of stoppage time to be played.
Hue shouts for a hand ball in the box from Real Madrid! Carvajal has a shot blocked by the hand of Suarez but the referee waves away the claims for a penalty kick. Big claim!
Casillas allowed that ball to bounce two yards out from his own goal. He should have been more commanding with that. And Navas watches on from the bench. Poor goalkeeping.
GOAL! Real Madrid 1 Atletico Madrid 1 (88 mins - Raul Garcia). What a big goal! Garcia gets a flick to a Gabi set piece to find the far corner of the Real Madrid net. Huge equaliser ahead of the second leg.
Now Real Madrid have the chance to take a commanding lead into the second leg. A 2-0 lead would be a fantastic result to take into Friday's game at the Vicente Calderon, and it's in their sights now.
Di Maria has given Real Madrid fresh energy. It shouldn't be understated just how important he was to their season last term. Most improved player in European football?
45,000 fans turned up to Rodriguez's unveiling as a Real Madrid player and a packed Bernabeu has seen him score on his home debut. He will be a star at this club. What an impact.
Casillas is forced into a good save! Koke spins on the ball and fires a powerful effort at goal from 20 yards. The Real Madrid needed to be alert for that and tips over his bar.
GOAL! Real Madrid 1 (82 mins - James Rodriguez) Atletico Madrid 0. The new Galactico scores the opener! A scramble involving Benzema sees the ball fall back to Rodriguez, who squeezes the ball into the net.
What a reception Di Maria got from the Bernabeu crowd when he came on. They clearly want him to stay at Real Madrid, with interest from Paris Saint Germain and Manchester United.
Rood of the net! Carvajal hangs a deep cross up to the back post for Benzema to attack. But despite getting above Godin the striker can't direct his header on target, with the ball landing on top of the net.
Atletico sub: Mario Mandzukic OFF, Raul Jimenez ON.
Atlético de Madrid Substitution
Real Madrid Substitution
Real Madrid sub: Luka Modric OFF, Angel Di Maria ON.
What are the chances that Di Maria comes on and scores the winner? Van Gaal is currently praying that doesn't happen.
An Atletico clearance falls to Kroos on the edge of the box but with a slide challenge from Miranda coming in the German midfielder doesn't get enough purchase on his shot and the ball dribbles into Moya's hands.
Mandzukic has done a lot of running up front on his own for Atletico tonight and he looks to be tiring as this game winds down. Is his fitness good enough to play that role for Simeone?
You just get the feeling that Real Madrid are running a little short of ideas. Kroos finds plenty of space in the centre of midfield but decides to shoot rather than pass, and shoots straight at an Atletico defender.
Casillas takes a chance under pressure from Mandzukic, but performs a pretty decent turn on the ball to fool the Atletico striker. Even the Spanish goalkeepers are good on the ball!
Under pressure from a number of Atletico Madrid players Rodriguez gets a shot away from the right corner of the penalty area, but he can't get enough curl on it and it drifts wide.
That's the closest Real Madrid have come to a goal. Kroos is capable of much better than that, even if the ball was bouncing quite high. He needed to get over the shot more.
Double chance for Real Madrid! This time Bale blasts it at goal, with Moya making the save. But the rebound falls to Kroos six yards out, yet the German fires over the bar on the bounce!
YELLOW CARD: Raul Garcia (Atletico Madrid)
Close from Ramos! Rodriguez wins the freekick on the edge of the box, but with Bale lining it up the defender puts his effort just over the bar. But it will be retaken for encroachment from the wall.
Atletico look most threatening from set pieces, but when they get a chance to sling one into the box they decide to play it short and Real defend it well. What a stupid thing to do. Over-complicating things.
That's a sensible decision by Simeone. Siquiera was lucky to still be on the pitch, with another 20 odd minutes against Bale representing something of a risk with the left back already on a booking.
Atletico sub: Guilherme Siqueira OFF, Cristan Ansaldi ON.
Atlético de Madrid Substitution
Siqueira goes in late on Bale, which was a risky move considering that he's already on a yellow. He's perhaps lucky not to be shown a second booking there. Probably deserved it.
Atletico would be quite happy with this result to take back to the Vicente Calderon on Friday, but Ancelotti has sent both Isco and Di Maria to warm-up. He has no intention of settling for 0-0.
YELLOW CARDS: Mario Mandzukic (Atletico Madrid), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid)
Scratch that. Just seen the replay. When the two men hit the ground Ramos sticks out an arm and hits Mandzukic in the face, but was it intentional?
Mandzukic and Ramos tangle as they challenge for the ball, with the Croatian striker going down holding his face. I don't think there was much in that. Just a collision between the two men.
YELLOW CARD: Mario Suarez (Atletico Madrid)
As expected Griezmann comes on for the second half. He should give Atletico more quality on the counter attack but does he have the positional discipline to play in Simeone's system?
Atlético de Madrid Substitution
Atletico Madrid sub: Saul Niguez OFF, Antoine Griezmann ON.

Pepe just loves heading the ball. Look at his little face. http://t.co/CfiGYWCyi5

The home side are certainly dominating the game at the moment. Atletico are camped inside their own half, but all their shots are being blocked. This time Kroos has an effort charged down.
Real Madrid are very patient with their build-up, but Alonso gets a little frustrated and smashes a shot well over the bar from 25 yards.
There is still the same kind of defensive organisation that there was last season at Atletico, but do they have the same quality on the break? Could we see Griezmann in this second half?
Mandzukic isn't having much joy battling for the ball with Ramos and Pepe. Every time he jumps for the ball he is being penalised for high elbows. That's the problem with being freakishly tall.

Being reported that a back injury forced Ronaldo off at half-time. Interested to hear verdict from Ancelotti in post-match presser

Gabi is causing problems with his corner kick deliveries. This time Alonso turnes behind for another set piece after Godin's header across the face of goal.
This will be a big test for Rodriguez. Ronaldo may have struggled in the first half with injury but he was still a goal threat. Will the Colombian bring the same kind of quality in attack for Real?
Big chance for Bale! The Welshman takes a cross from Carvajal in his stride and fires a shot at goal from just inside the box but Moya is equal to the effort and beats it away with both hands.
I asked on Twitter at the break how Ancelotti could force Rodriguez into his starting lineup. Well the answer is when Ronaldo is injured. The Portuguese winger has been withdrawn at the break.
Real Madrid sub: Cristiano Ronaldo OFF, James Rodriguez ON.
HALF TIME: Real Madrid 0-0 Atletico Madrid. This game has followed the pattern of last season, with Real looking to control the contest with Atletico putting defence first. Will we see more of Ronaldo after the break?
Real Madrid Substitution
We're back under way at the Santiago Bernabeu!
What did you make of the first half? Is Mandzukic a good enough replacement for Costa in the Atletico lineup? How can Ancelotti shoe-horn Rodriguez into his team? Tweet me!

One minute of stoppage time to be played.
Ronaldo has had a very quiet first half. He just looks slightly out of sync with the rest of his team and is roaming all over the pitch looking for the ball. Now I've said that he'll score a hat-trick in the second half.
Reasonable opportunity for Atletico now. A long throw bounces off the head of a couple players before reaching Saul, but from 14 yards he plants his header well wide of the target.
Chance for Ronaldo! Bale switches wings out to the left and swings a cross into the box for Ronaldo, who rises highest. But he can't a stong enough contact on it and the ball flashes past the post.
The workrate from both teams is quite incredible. As soon as they lose the ball they are on the chase to get it back as quickly as they can. And this is just a glorified friendly as well!
Atletico are sinking deeper and deeper into their own half. Just get the feeling that they are holding out for half time, when they can regroup and go again for the second half.
That booking must have given Alonso with something of an unwelcome flashback to the Champions League semi-final. He was shown a needless yellow card against Bayern Munich, meaning he missed the final.
YELLOW CARD: Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid)
Real Madrid are controlling the game as he wind down to half time, but Atletico can hit you on the break at any time. They look organised and well drilled. This is the same side that won the league last season, even if they've lost a few players.
Mandzukic clears inside his own box, with Modric pinging a sucession of corners into the area. He's usual at both ends, is the big Croatian. Costa was never able to do that!
Siqueira is on the touchline receiving treatment. He seems okay. It's a big season for the new left back at the Vicente Calderon. He had such an impressive season at Benfica last term.
Mandzukic shoots straight into the arms of Casillas from close range. The Real keeper was unconvincing as he came for the ball but the Atletico striker couldn't make the most of the chance.
A break of the ball from an Atletico corner kick gives Real Madrid a chance on the break, but Juanfran makes a last ditch challenge on Bale. If Bale had got there first Benzema and Ronaldo were through on goal.
Both sides are pressing very high up the pitch. There's not a player on this pitch that is receiving any kind of time or space on the ball when they get it. The tempo is very high early on.
Carvajal plays a low pass into the box looking for either Benzema or Ronaldo, but Moya comes out to claim. He's not Courtois, but he's not bad. He's keeping Oblak out the team as well.
The strength of this Real Madrid squad is really quite frightening. Consider that Khedira hasn't even made the bench tonight. Will he be on his way out of the Bernabeu before the window closes?
Mandzukic is penalised for a foul on Pepe. That's his role for Atletico. With Costa off to Chelsea Simeone needs a battering ram in attack. Will Mandzukic be that man for Atleti this season?
Just in case you didn't know, this is a two-legged affair. So don't expect any penalty shootouts or trophy presentations tonight. The second leg will be played on Friday at the Vicente Calderon.
Real Madrid have probably been the better of the two teams so far, but Atletico's strength has always been their defence. That's how they won the league last season, so this is the display we expected from them.
A very slack pass from Ronaldo allows Atletico to attack at pace and with numbers, but Saul wastes the opportunity and decides to shot from the best part of 30 yards with his weak foot. It dribbles wide.
Real Madrid switch the ball very quickly from right to left, but Bale's cross into the box is cleared by Godin with Ronaldo waiting for any kind of mistake from the Atletico defender.
Benzema has seen very little of the ball so far. Much of the play has been down the flanks but the French striker is struggling to make his mark. So of course that means he'll score the winner.
There has been much speculation about Di Maria's future at the Bernabeu. He was one of their best players last season. Only Real Madrid could sell him after such an impressive campaign.
The evolution of Real Madrid's midfield will be interesting to watch this season. How can Ancelotti play Kroos, Alonso, Khedria, Modric, Rodriguez and Di Maria? There's only three places, so......
Bale is still sporting the alice band tonight. I though that was just a joke for an advert? Evidently not.
Saul spent last season on loan at Rayo Vallecano, but the19 year old should feature quite heavily for Atletico Madrid this season. But he should have done better with that last chance.
What a chance for Atletico! A mistake from Ramos allows Saul through on goal, but his right footed shot lacks the power needed to find the net and Casillas get down well to make a comfortable save.
Decent effort, decent save. The long ball forward finds Mandzukic in between the two Real Madrid centre-backs but his shot on the bounce from the edge of the box only finds the hands of Casillas.
YELLOW CARD: Guilherme Siqueira (Atletico Madrid)
Chance for Bale! The Welshman picks up the ball on the edge of the box, but under pressure from Miranda he can't get the ball out from under his feet quick enough and he skews his shot wide.
Kroos is already taking charge of the centre of midfield. Paul Clements said that he had never seen a better debut than the one turned in by the German against Sevilla. He certainly seems to have settled quickly.
Kroos is brought down by Gabi and tempers are already fraying in this one. This is Spain's equivalent of the Community Shield, but while that game still feels like a friendly there's nothing friendly about these fixtures in Spain.
Real Madrid have already had a competitive game of sorts, with their win over Sevilla in the European Super Cup last week. Will that see them have more of an edge over Atletico tonight?
Atletico didn't lose to either Barcelona or Real Madrid in the league last season, but of course the last time these two teams played Los Blancos came out on top in the Champions League final.
I don't think the referee had much of a choice there. Koke went flying in on Pepe and was late. He had to be shown a yellow card, even after just five or so minutes. He's n thin ice now.
YELLOW CARD: Koke (Atletico Madrid)
Real Madrid have started on the front foot, with Ronaldo starting on the left and Bale on the right. But Juanfran deals well with the former and Atletico survive.

Gracias Alfredo tribute pre-Supercopa with string quartet playing on pitch & full Bernabeu cheering & clapping http://t.co/c49MMc5Lfq

Ancelotti has stuck with the 4-3-3 formation that was so successful last season. The only new face in the lineup is Kroos, who joined from Bayern Munich after winning the World Cup with Germany.
So this is the first chance we have had to see how Atletico will shape up this season. Yes, there's been pre-season but this is obviously a big step-up for Simeone's men. Can they replicate last season's success?
I'm Graham Ruthven and you can contact me to let me know your thoughts throughout the game. Has Ancelotti made a mistake by leaving Rodriguez on the bench for this game? Tweet me!
