    • 90+5 THAT'S IT! Spain beat England 2-1, the first time they've beaten them for 17 years. Shambolic at the end really.
    • 90+4 Deary me the replay shows it wasn't Putellas's goal - she didn't touch it, the ball went in off Bardsley's face. Crikey.
    • 90+3 GOAL SPAIN! A horrorshow for Bardsley as she drops a cross, allowing sub Putellas to finish! Deary me!
    • 90+2 ENGLAND SUB: Clarke on for Yankey as Roquete receives treatment.
    • 90+1 Three minutes added time as Roquete mimics her male counterparts with a bit of rolling about.
    • 90' Good claim by Bardsley under pressure, she was fouled by Roquete but held on.
    • 89' GOAL ENGLAND! Bassett with the finish, looping past a stranded Tirapu and inside the far post! Cute finish but no-one on the line! Smart corner routine.
    • 88' Yankey earns a corner for England. Can they equalise?
    • 87' Yankey goes down holding her hip after a knee from Paredes as she followed through her clearance.
    • 86' That was horrible defending from England but a decent finish from Hermoso. Can England come back?
    • 85' GOAL SPAIN! Jenni thrashes it into the roof of the net after England fail to clear the corner! More poor defending from England.
    • 84' Putellas with a fine run now but Stoney puts behind for a corner. Good finish from Spain.
    • 83' Putellas on the right, she cuts inside Houghton, beats Asante and she could go all the way here but a weak finish is easy for Bardsley.
    • 82' A rare bit of quality for England, and no surprise it came from Carney. White did well just to get there to be fair.
    • 81' WHITE SHOULD HAVE WON IT FOR ENGLAND! Brilliant cross from Carney on the right, swerving and dipping and White flew in but somehow her finish landed wide!
    • 79' Loose clearance from Stoney to touch. Spain putting some late pressure on.
    • 78' Ibarra takes the free-kick but England clear.
    • 77' Bassett is booked for a cynical tug on Putellas.
    • 75' Paredes is booked for a late tackle on Asante.
    • 74' UTTER COMEDY! A long ball bounces over Bardsley, who got a hand to it but made a total mess of things, and it landed straight for Boquete who hit the bar from close range! Deary me!
    • 73' ENGLAND SUB: Carney on for Aluko.
    • 72' Boquete tries a lofted effort but it's well over.
    • 71' Boquete senses her team-mates are tiring and goes on a superb solo run until Bassett blocks her shot, easy for Bardsley.
    • 70' White closes down Garcia, forcing a backpass and a rushed clearance from the keeper. Throw England but White overhits a cross straight to Tirapu.
    • 69' Scott with a cross but no-one can latch on to White's flick-on. England in charge now - their superior physique shining through.
    • 68' ... Williams on the left but she overhits the cross. Scott keeps it in, plays a one-two with Yankey and drags it back for Aluko to finish but Paredes hacks clear!
    • 67' Yankey goes it alone and tries to feed White, but Garcia intercepts. Still with England though...
    • 66' Aluko with the corner, flicked on by Jill Scott but it lands wide for a goal kick.
    • 65' Jill Scott wins a corner for England, much to Paredes's disgust.
    • 64' England come forward now but Houghton and Yankey can't combine and Spain have it back.
    • 63' Torrejon with a decent cross that Stoney heads clear. Losada tries a long-range hit but it's well over.
    • 62' Terrible kick from Tirapu, now Williams releases Aluko, whose pass to send Alex Scott through wide right is too heavy. Poor ball.
    • 61' SPAIN SUB: Calderon comes off for Losada.
    • 60' Spain counter, which is where they are very dangerous but Bassett gets to Adriana's cross before Boquete.
    • 59' Aluko with a decent pass this time, but Williams is offside. Paredes blocked it anyway.
    • 58' White with a dangerous cross fir the arriving Yankey but Tirapu gets there first.
    • 57' Williams could be in here as Spain's defence parts, but her touch lets her down and she again loses control of the ball. Take her off for Smith, I reckon. Or Carney.
    • 56' Spain with a decent spell of possession now but Paredes's superb pass and Sonia's brilliant first touch comes to nothing, offside.
    • 55' Better from England now, who are asking more questions of Spain. But, on the flipside, things are opening up further at the back. Should be more goals...
    • 53' Great cross by Houghton to the unmarked White but she is offside as she meets it with a header.
    • 52' Now Spain's turn to part defensively as White gets in down the right. Acres of space and she drills a low cross but missed by Williams and Yankey can finish but her shot is blocked!
    • 51' Boquete almost releases Jenni but again her superb pass is too pacy for her team-mate. Not the first time that's happened.
    • 50' Some respite for England as they have a free-kick on the right, but Aluko gives it away. Story of their night.
    • 49' SPAIN SHOULD HAVE SCORED! Adriana Martin drilling wide after Boquete causes real problems for a frankly shambolic England defence!
    • 48' Sonia on the left, fantastic cross to leave Scott for dead and Bassett gets a vital touch as Boquete was set to tap it in! Bardsley claims the loose ball but that could have been 2-1!
    • 47' Foul by Garcia on Scott but Williams gives it away at the free-kick.
    • 46' The second half is underway and England immediately go at Spain as Aluko and Scott have efforts, but Garcia clears.
    • 45' The whistle goes for half-time, no added time, and it's 1-1, a superb start with Boquete and Aluko scoring, but the match has lost some of its fizz since.
    • 44' The corner is only just tipped behind by Tirapu - that was going in! Yankey sends in another corner and again Tirapu is struggling but Spain manage to get it clear. And now they break, Calderon releasing Sonia but she is offside!
    • 43' ENGLAND SHOULD HAVE SCORED! Houghton finally finds her range as she sneaks behind the right-back on to Aluko's pass, and a great cut-back which White should finish but a superb block from the defender Paredes!
    • 42' Boquete manages to get her head on a cross from the left but she gets the angles all wrong and sends the ball well wide.
    • 41' Houghton does not look fit at all - she's normally quick but really struggles to beat Adriana Martin to a ball the Lincoln defender should easily claim.
    • 40' Houghton's touch lets her down as a Yankey pass freed her wide left.
    • 39' Yankey's cross is nodded away by Garcia and now Adriana Martin sends a long ball that releases Boquete - she holds it up as Martin continues her run, but the New York Flash striker hits the finish against the stanchion!
    • 38' Yankey will swing this free-kick into the box... but it's poor, the first defender able to get a head one it with Torrejon completing the clearance. Now Boquete plays a superb crossfield pass but Sonia Bermudez can't get there.
    • 37' Another naughty challenge from Spain as Williams is brought down on the right wing. An elbow from Garcia, who is a lucky woman as she should have been booked earlier.
    • 36' Superb play by Yankey, who flicks it past one women before being taken out by Calderon, who chops her down from behind and is booked.
    • 34' Good interception by Houghton as Boquete almost sent Calderon clean through! But Jenni picks it up, striding into space as Spain come again - but Sonia plays a poor centre into Bardsley's arms.
    • 33' Aluko finally releases the hitherto isolated White, but the striker is about a yard away from the ball and can't turn into the space. Back with the keeper.
    • 32' Nice flick by Scott to Williams, now Yankey finds Houghton on the left - not seen much of her so far - but eventually Yankey loses control of it and Spain are back in possession.
    • 31' Adriana Martin swings in the free-kick but straight down the throat of Bardsley, who releaes it quickly as England win a throw on the left wing.
    • 30' Aluko with a late one on Ibarra. The ref has a word, no card.
    • 29' All a bit subdued after the manic start. Garcia plays it long but Bardsley is able to clear.
    • 27' Given away by Scott and Spain have it back. It's got a bit scrappy suddenly...
    • 26' Then Scott nutmegs an opponent before skipping away for another, releasing Aluko in the process. Boquete is covering though and makes the challenge.
    • 25' This last 10 minutes or so has been very 'Spain', as La Rioja show they have learned from their men's team.
    • 24' Having been sitting deep earlier, Spain are now passing it around England - a bit like the men! However, England's women do have another gear to click into, and are far more powerful. This could be interesting.
    • 23' Boquete again on the ball but she can't combine with Martin, Boquete has 15 goals in 15 games for Spain.
    • 22' Good deep cross from Yankey, hanging on to the head of White but she is under pressure from Torrejon and can't connect properly.
    • 21' Bassett clears the corner at the near post. Spain's danger-women so far have been Boquete - who plays in the Swedish league with Tyreso - and Martin, who as we mentioned earlier is US-based.
    • 20' GOOD SAVE BARDSLEY! After that fine passing move, Sonia had a dig from an angle, rasping a drive for the roof of the net but the England keeper flew across to palm it over for a corner.
    • 19' Now Spain with some time on the ball. Boquete looks a real handful, twisting and turning whenever she can.
    • 18' Spain easing off now, perhaps conserving energy after their frantic start. England keeping a lot of possession.
    • 16' A long-range effort from Soni almost catches Bardsley out but it doesn't swerve quite enough to sneak inside the near post and the keeper had it covered anyway.
    • 15' Yankey tries to get a cross in but Garcia this time gets her block in. Scott strides forward now, almost sending Aluko in but Tirapu gathers the through-ball.
    • 14' Much better from England now, who are knocking it about nicely.
    • 13' Yankey with the corner as Tirapu flaps under serious pressure from England's taller players, but Spain survive to clear.
    • 12' GOOD SAVE TIRAPU! Williams with a curling effort for the top right but the Spain keeper tips it over for a corner. Scott again involved in the build-up.
    • 11' England manage to clear their lines from that corner, and it's a free-kick to Powell's side after a counter attack is held up illegally.
    • 10' Boquete wide to Martin, who puts in a decent cross but Stoney heads behind for a corner. Loads of space out wide for Spain, the full-backs all over the place.
    • 9' Garcia, at fault for the goal, is lucky not to see yellow for a late tackle.
    • 8' Terrible defending from Ruth Garcia, who should have intercepted that pass from Scott. Coolly taken by Aluko though.
    • 7' GOAL ENGLAND! Having just said that, danger-woman Aluko finds space on the edge of the box after a fine passing move involving Williams and Scott, Aluko exploiting a weak interception to slide a cool low finish into the bottom left.
    • 6' Aluko is back defending, but you want her higher up the pitch - a vulnerable defence needs protecting!
    • 5' England have started slowly, and Spain have done really well given their reputation. Not seen anything going forward from England.
    • 4' GOAL SPAIN! England with some possession now. But Spain counter and Boquete is through! The England defence parts terribly and she just slides it in off Bardlsey for 1-0!
    • 3' The corner is swung in and England keeper Bardsley flaps a bit; the loose ball falls to Adriana Martin, who takes a good first touch and thunders a rising drive over the bar!
    • 2' Adriana Martin plays for Western New York Flash and she wins a throw; now Jenny Hermoso earns a corner for Spain. Bright start!
    • 1' Boquete on the move as Spain try to pressurise England. She finds Adriana Martin wide right but her cross is blocked for a throw.
    • 1' The first half is underway!
    • 19:28 England are 15/1 fourth favourites to win the tournament outright, which is around where the men are pitched usually, although with less reason - the women do occasionally get to a final. Spain are outsiders at 40/1. Most bookies see this as a three-way race between Germany, France and hosts Sweden.
    • 19:27 This stadium in Linkoping is brand new, built both for this tournament and the Swedish Damallsvenskan side Linkopings FC. It holds 8,500 people but doesn't seem to be full tonight.
    • 19:26 These coaches are the two longest-serving - Powell has been England boss since 1998, which is 15 years, while Spain's boss Quereda has been there for a whopping 25 years.
    • 19:25 Remember, you can watch this LIVE on Eurosport, as with all the Women's Euro matches.

    • 19:15 William Hill have England at evens to win this, with Spain 2-1 and the draw 12/5. England are much more highly rated than their Spanish equivalents, reflecting their relative status within the women's game.
    • 19:10 Ignacio Quereda (Spain): "I'm very optimistic and I'm very eager to start Friday's game against England. During the match we will try to counter their physical power, which we already know, with our own weapons."
    • 19:10 Hope Powell (England coach): "We have to remember that Germany have a larger pool of players to choose from and that helps them massively. Germany women 20-25 years ago were in the same position as we are. It takes time but the FA are investing more and we are heading in the right direction. It's important to recognise we have our own culture and our own DNA, it's important to work with that, but we will continue to strive to become the leading nation in women's football."

seems to me Spain's late goal was out of time and a foul on the keeper, but hey, it's Spain.

  3. First of all these games should not be commentated by Women players who were terrible at best at commentary. Second, this tournament looks exceptionally poor. Third and more importantly England's women team is not much better than Men's team being overhype.

Sorry but this was a poor show from England they gave the ball away far too often and our defence where at sixs and sevens Haughton should have stayed in the dressing room and the manager needs to pick a team to win and not just the girls she likes get tough girl or catch the next plane home and save being embarrassed

  7. Well Well, this is just continuum, the under 21s out, the under 20 out, women in line. All that's missing now is that the senior team does not qualify for Brasil and believe me that will happen. England will be stunned and hopefully react by dropping the massive import of stars into the Premiership. Let the English play !!
