  • Maybe Saha wasn't totally fit, but with Smith not ready and OGS not able to play full match, perhaps someone can explain why our management geniuses let Rossi warm the Newcastle bench?
Anyway, Rooney.. not that good in the air, fast but not electric, not a natural goalscorer. Every defender has now sussed that when put under pressure with always jink to the right, head down.
Everton won more games when he wasn't playing than when he was. Of the two, Ronaldo looks much more likely to become truely 'world class'. When Rooney plays in 4,2,2 he is OK in the slightly withdrawn role. In 4,5,1 he cannot play sole striker role well. In 4,3,3 he looks lost out wide. Unfortunately Carrick and Scholes cannot play together in 4,4,2 . Great team planning!

    • For Rooney, don't add more pressure on him, striker who lack of good form not only him, see what happened on Chelsea Shevo. The more pressure on him, the worst would happen! Let Rooney relax, he could be fit again very soon with our supports.

For Ronaldo, one of his strength is coping with high pressure, his performance on World Cup recognised this, he really did not influenced by surroundings particularly taunts.... on him and still performed excellent. I think he is the privotal in existing Reds, what he play could directly affect the outcome of the match.

For the coming Champion League, I have full confidence of him, he is very special and outstanding under high pressure, and certainly with great ambition and strong determination to win, this is one of his character - never give up and self confidence.

For Rossi, he is a potential guy for Reds, yesterday he played quite well for Newcastle, I hope he can come back Reds soon to add some different on Reds.

    • As you said, United is having a formation crisis since the 4-3-3 didn't work, the 4-4-2 is causing Carrick and Scholes problems. I think Ferguson should try the 4-1-2-1-2 formation (or the "diamond" 4-4-2) with Carrick hanging back near defense or middle and moving Scholes up near the strikers. The formation has worked well for Chelsea when I've seen them use it, and it might help United.

      • yeah but going back to what jim said and the WC performance (even though not totally fit) Rooney is getting sussed out by defenders and finding it hard. He always seems to have the same moves and without the odd 'wonder goal' would probably be considered as average. It's a worry and he shouldn't be relied on so heavily..yet,anyway

    • Probably a bit harsh on Rooney. In form and in the right position he is a handful for any defender. Agree with the fact that he isnt an out and out striker like Ole or Saha. Plus we got to remember he is still so young.
4 rotating strikers was/is our best option. It worked over many seasons! Lack of striker options is going to be our problem. Its all been stated before. Maybe SAF is looking at fully fit squad with Rooney, Saha, Ole and Smith. Obviously why Rossi is out on loan.
Cant really assess Carrick on the few games he had. SAF should work out the best formation for him soon enough.

    • very very very very well said chris! im gonna actually save this post as a future reference to anyone who's gonna again criticise rooney, ronie, fergie and manutd!
perhaps jim is just really frustrated wiht our last two perfomances and his post was about expressing that, wiht all the best of intentions at heart for manutd. im sure jim would be very happy to be proved wrong when rooney get back to his best.

    • Rooney is a genuis, wait to the Benfica game den u will see.

      • look jim, its far too early to be questioning rooney's ability, constructive criticism or not. he hasnt played enuf games since april 29th, and with all the hype that went with the world cup, then the red cards, you have to give the lad a break! i agree with you that 4-4-2 is the formation which he prefers, but you cannot say he's OK....when he's on form, he's superb at it. perhaps we need to stop excpecting superhuman efforts from him and let him just get his form back. and about our over reliance on the youngsters, well, i think it's better we rely on them becus they are the future, and you cannot argue against the fact that ronie and rooney are our future, alongside rossi ofcourse who should definatly be playing for us, not warming any benches.

    • To say scholes and carrick cant play together is not correct,i doubt if they have played a full game together in midfield.Yesterday scholes was playing in behind the striker with carrick mostly doing the holding job in midfield.Only after they have played a season together in midfield will it become apparent whether they can play successfully together.
