    Ronaldo, again

If (that's a big IF) he makes a transfer request after Euro, then what should United do?

I say sell him to Barca just to piss Madrid off, and take Messi from them. Tevez would certainly like that!

    • We should start tapping up players,as FIFA(surprise, surprise) have said that Real Wankers have done nothing wrong

    • Carry on deluding yourself if you want to.
Ronaldo's contract has 4 more years to run. Even if he tried to buy out after 2 years he could not join a club who 'induced' him to break the contract.
He will be at OT next season and most likely some time after that.

    • so why are you lot trying to hang on to hleb, pot, kettle.

    • I was wondering why clubs are not more often (if at all) in serious trouble for inducing breach of contract as it's pretty clear in just about every case where a player moves against the (initial) wishes of the old club, that the new club has been "courting" the player and perhaps even negotiations and discussions have taken place behind the scenes - blatant inducement of a breach of contract.

The penalties for such offences against the new club are not restricted to financial compensation but can also include restriction of transfer activity (for a limited period), deduction of points and even exclusion from major competitions. In practice I guess, the transfer fee includes all the compensation necessary to placate the old club and we never get to hear about these issues. The threat to the old club to accept the offer is that I suppose, the player offers to carry the can for all offences claiming that he initiated all wrong doing and was the driver of the transaction since only financial penalties can be place on him.

The real problem is that the fine/compensation is a paltry sum in comparison to the total outlay involved in transfers that it is simply looked upon as an irritant rather than anything major.

Anybody with better / alternative ideas ?

    • i am in no doubt that if ronnie left and we bought messi, guess what, all of a sudden messi would be overrated and ronnie would be the worlds best player, thats how opposing fans minds are. but ronnie aint going, he will be lining up against newcastle on the opening day.

    • I can, see how Slayer obtained it's bronze ,a bit like how it gained a so-called Master's Degree at that university it keeps on going on about, yet steadfastly refuses to name.'Remember Obi Mikel who signed for United and changes his mind that he wants out'Love it Slayer.Or 'history repeating itself in some strange ways' What history Slayer?Just for fun Slayer, can you enlighten us all on what Mikel has won since changing his mind?

    • So Slayer gets a bronze contributing on the United board - he really is a closet United fan, then?

    • If Ronaldo asks for a transfer I suggest the wish is part granted: i.e. sell him, but not to Real Madrid. On the basis that you don't sell good players to rivals (which real are in Europe) I would unload him to a Brazilian or Argentinian team...

      • and he'll not agree personal terms, which means you'll have to honor his contract (keeping paying a player who won't play his best for you), great solution.

First off, think the chances are better than Ronaldo will stay with you, but only the most blinkered Utd fans won't admit that there is the possibility he'll want a move. Actually the more successful he is at the EURO's the more that chance increases IMO.

But if he does want out, I expect, Fergie will allow him to go. But he'll hold out for a big transfer, and will very likley blackball any move to another prem team, or Real Madrid. That might actually be the trick to keep him. No doubt longterm he wants to play in Spain, and most likely Real. Therefore Fergie might turn around and tell him, I'll sell you to Real in 2 years if they still want you, or I'll sell you now, but all bids from Real will be rejected, so who knows where you maybe playing next season.

    • Personally I think that most people will eventually grow tired of this saga (if thay haven't already) and this talk of letting him 'rot in the reserves' is nonsense. As a lifelong United supporter I'd much rather see Ferguson sell Ronaldo now for 100 billion euros, or whatever the most recently quoted price is, and invest the money elswhere than wait 2 or 3 years with Ronaldo sitting in the stands. If we keep him against his will it does nobody any good and eventually he'll leave for a much lower price or worse still on a free. Ok so next season will be a bit more difficult without him...but isn't that what people said when Beckham went? The fact is United have to act rationally and do what's best for the club. Ferguson has his own opinion on the matter, as do the Glazers, as does Ronaldo, we have to wait and see after Euro 2008. But I think the fact that Ronaldo refuses to answer any questions about the subject until after the tournament is a clear indication. At most he will be at Old Trafford one more season...or will he?
