      • With reference to the comment that United were wasting money supporting a terminally ill patient. No doubt the club was saying a heartfelt thank you to respected and committed active fan. Besides, no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. Whether it is carried out by a great club like Manchester United or whether it is each of us doing our little bit as human beings. It is ridiculous to suggest that the care of the terminally ill, which includes the alleviation of suffering, is somehow a waste of money. Money is required for the search for cures, the prevention of illness and the care of the sick and dying. It is wrong to suggest that one has priority over the other. Dave and his two young sons and the family he leaves behind are in our thoughts and prayers at this sad time. At the first opportunity I will make a contribution, no matter how small, in his honour to cancer research.
