Radical new thought, the opposition played well. Indeed they usually do on their own patch, won 14 of the last 16 European home ties, I seem to recall that included Barca.
United played with a lot of guys ring-rusty. Carrick plays as ordered in away games in CL ie main job is to protect back 4, especially with such an inexperienced one ( again poorest of the 4 defensively was Evra).
Good result given opposition and team sent out. United can't steamroll every opposition, every match, no-one can , not even the Catalonians the night before at home.
Unfotunately this match , for long stretches was the usual CL group fare, marginally better than watching paint dry.
Agreed, Jim. The group stage of the CL is pretty boring in general, and it is hard to get excited about the CL until March. I was reading last year that the TV companies are worried about the tedium of the current format. I know there is the group stage in the WC, but the significant difference is that it occurs in a highly compressed time schedule, so there is constant anticipation about what is coming next....
