    The race for 4th place

is currently turning out to be more exciting than the race for 1st. Who would have thought at the turn of the year that spurs, who looked not only to be a shoe in for CL qualification but also for 3rd place, would have slipped so badly that they are only clinging on to 4th place through goal difference. And who would have thought at the start of the season that the team just below them on goal difference would be newcastle! I`ve gotta admit that till now I`ve never really rated Alan Pardew but the job he has done at newcastle has been simply outstanding. Chelsea are still in there with a shout but they have a busy schedule ahead and I think that could tell against them. In theory 3rd place is not beyond any of those 3 teams but I just feel that arsenal have enough about them to keep their noses in front. I`m hoping spurs can clinch the 4th remaining spot but they have really gone off the boil whilst newcastle seem t be going from strength to strength. Which is why I think the fa cup semi-final is so important for spurs not just because the final beckons but a win would give them just the sort of boost they need to get their league campaign back on track. And of course losing could do the opposite and really knock the stuffing out of them.
