    An interesting summer ahead

David Gill speaking about the coming transfer window:

"There's various contracts we've got to do, we'll look at some acquisitions and there will be some players who will leave. It's an interesting time."

    • This is obviously completely unrealistic, but I can see us choosing one of the five. And I can see Fergie liking Iturraspe most of all - the most affordable, and the most appropriate for our needs given that we have Cleverley and Martinez will probably go to Real.

    • Stefan, Martinez's absence said it all last night. They were missing their 'heart'. Whilst no-one played poorly you wouldn't exactly rush out with a cheque book for any of them based on that performance. They met a team in Sporting who were just as young and energetic. But Martinez is the 'jewel', but very unlikely to be persuaded to come to OT if Madrid are calling.

    • Kuszczak, De Laet, Bebe, Owen, Berbatov seem certain to leave.

Macheda will at least go on loan again, but there must be a good chance he will be sold also (despite what Fergie said about him recently).

Fryers and Pogba still haven't agreed new contracts, so who knows what will happen with them.

If we do go for another wide attacker, Park may well leave this summer.

I hope Scholes stays for another year, but I guess he won't make that decision until the summer.

Other question mark has to be Anderson after another injury ravaged season where he's failed to live upto his potential once again. Seems destined to never happen here for him.

As for who will come in, who knows. A left back must be a certainty with Fabio going out on loan next season. A central midfielder and a left footed attacker/winger also likely areas to strengthen. There is still talk of Clyne being a done deal also

    • I don't know why anyone would want to get rid of Emery - he's got Valencia consistently back into the the Champions League places having lost a world class attacking trio and his best defender in recent years. Not to mention that the hub of that team Banega is currently out, having been run over by his car! When the New Mestalla opens in a few years and Valencia are challenging Barca and Real, they will be thanking Emery for all the good work he's done under such trying circumstances. The guy needs a break.

In an ideal world, United would get Martinez, but I do see him going to Madrid eventually. Barca will probably push for Thiago Silva. I don't understand the De Marcos link - he is a worker first and foremost. I don't want an expensive replacement for Park.

    • u would expect this bilbao team to be broken up.

a handful of good young spanish players & llorente.

llorente is pretty much odds on to leave this summer, he hasnt got long left on his contract.

martinez would do well wherever he want. i can see madrid going for him. but i do think barca could do with him as they are short at CB.

i keep hearing de marcos linked to utd. what do u think about him?

valencia we're poor again last night. its all gone a bit stale, time for a manager change i think!

    • Back to transfers, I don't think we'll go for any big name young players. It will most probably be young talent that we've heard of but don't know much about, similar to Anderson (at least for me!) when he arrived. All I knew of him when the signing was announced was that he was a 'prodigy' who was being chased by Inter and Barca. This Witsel link won't go away - given the fact that the Gaitan link has been shouted down, he could be the real object of pursuit - now there's a player whose had the kinks in his character and game itself ironed out under lesser pressure at smaller clubs. I can't help feeling Anderson probably needed the same. Too much too soon. Failure hasn't just been because of injuries.

    • Jim, did you watch Bilbao last night? Perhaps they are tired, perhaps not, but they looked a little rudderless without Martinez. Sporting impressed me I must say. I do fear for Muniain that he is being played way too much at such a young age - I don't think Rooney, Ronaldo or Messi played so many games in one season at that age. He could become beset by injuries if he isn't utilised more carefully - it would almost be good for his sake if he went to a bigger club.

    • Funnily enough Stefan, we are in agreement. I was saying that selling someone who is currently a first 11 pick and is still of an age to contribute, was not clever. However I hope United both buy someone and eventually promote from within, who can improve that area. But sell Carrick in the summer? Daft.
