I see they have gone for experience......of losing.
The bright new younger future comes down to Welbeck, Jones and Ox.
There are 4 too many United players in there for my liking. What a waste of time.
I will ask you a question Jim - when will these idiots learn that if you want to play vaguely decent football, then you need at least one creative central midfielder in the squad? What a load of rubbish. And Downing!

The thing is, Stefan, there are times when you think that the best teams which win the biggest trophies don't "play vaguely decent football" and don't have "at least one creative central midfielder in the squad".
The primary job of a football manager is to get a team to win matches rather than to satisfy your arbitrarily undefined idea of how a team should pass the ball around.
"What a load of rubbish." Thoroughly agree with that.
as jim never does it here's the squad for reference
Goalkeepers: Joe Hart (Man City), Rob Green (West Ham), John Ruddy (Norwich)
Defenders: Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Phil Jones (Man United), John Terry (Chelsea), Joleon Lescott (Man City), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Leighton Baines (Everton)
Midfielders: Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Stewart Downing (Liverpool), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Gareth Barry (Man City), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Scott Parker (Tottenham), Ashley Young (Man United), James Milner (Man City)
Forwards: Wayne Rooney (Man United), Danny Welbeck (Man United), Andy Carroll (Liverpool), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham)
Standby players: Jack Butland (Birmingham), Adam Johnson (Man City), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool).
usual dross - barry, milner, walcott, downing, carroll - but the bottom line is we just dont have the players
why defoe over sturridge?
glad cleverley left out although he hadnt done enough to be included anyway
Downing selection is the biggest joke of all.
And 4 Liverpool players when they've not exactly excelled as a team or individually this year.
When is a manager going to be bold and try something a little fresher, like pick more inexperienced, but creative, players? Do something which is seen as a long term plan.. to bed players in in time for the 2014 world cup. Probably get replies saying there's too much pressure on Hodgson to pick best available but I didn't see that working in the past.
I still can`t understand why Richards keeps being left out of the England squad or why Glenn Johnson keeps being picked. Frankly I`d prefer in the absence of Walker with injury that Richards played at rightback rather than Johnson - who is good gpoing forward but a poor defender.
That's odd Ian.
I'm sure I saw a quote from SAF saying that Utd have supplied more England players than anyone other club?
So if we're playing the club blame game, surely they carry more of the can for England performances?
So whats your line up from that then guys?
I can see something like:
Johnson Terry Cahill Cole
Walcott Lampard Parker Young
Johnson Terry Cahill Cole
Welbeck/Walcott Gerrard Young
If Carrick (as much as I don't rate him) and Cleverley were in the squad Steve, I would have hope of us reaching the quarter-finals. Also, given the way Welbeck and Sturridge link up, I would have taken him. No one in the squad fulfils those vital midfield functions to a decent level except an uncapped 18 year old. Ridiculous when you think about it. With regards to the 1st 2 matches, agree with your back 5 although if we want the midfield to 'function' and for the players to complement one another, then I would star Barry with Alex O-C and Gerrard. Up front, Young, Welbeck and unfortunately, Theo. Now imagine that squad with Wilshere, Cleverley, Carrick, Sturridge, Adam Johnson, Walker and Smalling. Makes you sick!
