Aston Villa Message Board
Never mind the millions that we seem ready to fritter away on either Baros or Miccoli (who are ya??!) - I was ranting on all summer that we should have moved for Leroy Lita from Bristol City. Reading got him for £1million - a player of unbelievable talent - a cross between Les Ferdinand and Faustino Asprilla. He was joint top scorer in Div 1 last yr, has 3 goals in 3 games for the Royals so far this campaign and is England U21 too - yet he doesn't seem to have been on DU'L's radar at all. Is he shackled by the lumbering business brains running the club? We have no effective media profile - with Bolton, Middlesborough, Everton, Man City & now Small Heath all commanding far more TLC from TV & Tabloids (can you beleive it - Bolton & Small Heath!!). We rarely get a mention on Teletext and we're almost always one of the 2 last games shown on Match of the Day!! A crowd of 33,000 for the opening game of the season said it all. The millions wasted on Colleymore, Balaban, Alpay, Hadji, Stone, Kachloul, Crouch, etc - most of whom cost a fortune, never held down a regular place and were then virtually given away, must not be repeated but I fear that if we sign either of these overpriced, uderperforming 'C' list footy celebs they'll soon be bolstering the reserves too or commnding a shirt for the season like Carlton Cole and too many other underperformers we can all mention!

I dunno Miccoli, but Baros is a proven international goalscorer. If O'Leary intends to give him the chance he never had at Liverpool and make him an integral part of the team, he could be a great buy.
As the success ofprevious Villa 'failures' like Milosevic and Crouch has shown a large part of the blame for the team's expensive flops must go to the managers who never used them properly. If we do get Baros, I just hope he doesn't end up as Kevin Phillips' understudy . . .
