    Barry to the REDS

Let him go!!! He has lost his heart for Villa a long time ago... No point sticking to a player who will only give wrong passes or not even give his best anymore... Let alone the CAPTAIN!

Just make the reds pay, and pay A LOT they will... What's 15, 30 or even 45 million pounds to the reds, when they can re-coup that amount by winning the champions league or even the top 4? Make them pay a world record for our captain and we wish them all the best - they'll need it.

    • I'm sure Barry would not give wrong passes etc, as you say simply because he didn't get his mone.......I'll miss him but wish him all the best, plus laugh when he out shines 90% of the team and most Liverpool fans don't think they need him!

I'm still not sold on if we need him or not. Not because I don't rate the player, I do rate him, but I'm not sure that he's an improvement over Alonso, who is likely to leave if or when Barry comes in. However, there is no denying when you see them playing for England, that Gerrard and Barry have a very good understanding, so it not a question of matching up a couple players and comparing them as individuals, but more fitting them into a system, and asking does the system oveall improve. Therefore I doubt Barry will outshine 90% of the team (remember that means he's going to have to outshine players like Torres, Gerrard, and Mascherano), but do think he may strengthen the overall squad.

    • at least the villa fans haven't started issuing death threats even if they are about to lose one of their best players.

    • Barry will go and it will hit the team hard.

The sad thing is the irony of it all. Barry deserves to be playing in Europe regularly and Villa can't offer him that. He'll be willing to go to Liverpool on the cheap because that is where he has to be to be able to play in Europe.
So Villa never really had a hope of keeping him. If Villa want to buy a player anything like as good as Barry, we have to pay over the odds because we can't currently offer the players European football.

I think the only satisfaction we may have is that if Barry continues to play as well as he is at the moment, Liverpool won't be able to keep him either.

For some reason I also think that it won't work for him at Anfield anyway. Seeing him play alongside Gerrard for England it seems like a dream pairing, but I have a niggling feeling that it won't work at club level.

Whatever - thanks to Gareth for the 100% he has always given the club, and also for the way he's handled this transfer talk without any bad comments about the bos or the club. Very rare to see this sort of decency in a modern player.

      • Villa turned down 15 million today, but he will go anyway.

Good luck and thanks to Barry.

Liverpool haven't played the transfer game by the rules but then, most clubs don't these days but get shirty when it's done to them i.e.Ronaldo with Man U and Madrid.

For heavens sake though, we have to start spending some money soon!

OK you have to be a bit prudent but only successful clubs make money and you have to spend to get success. It's getting a bit frustrating now.

If we don't spend soon we will look like a bigger tit than Nig's (Tilton) bird in his pic!

    • She did me Mike, but she's an older women now...that was Blackpool Pier 1982...t*t measuring contest. Lizzie must be............49 now.....maybe 50.Pleasant mamories,... sorry memories though.!!

Everything goes South eventually they say !

    • Hey Roy....

I notice someone tagged a Geordie shield on me..

Must be them raskels davey and Jabber..

      Humph ! What a nerve. !

    • don't know Mike....close season is alway's the same with speculation and promises, and when it all kicks off again I always wonder just why I bother, no loyalty like it is for us fan's...... I suppose it's just a job to the players, mercenaries to the highest bidder.

Bullocks to em....Im off for a pint.

    • Its a bit cheeky to speak of Liverpool as buying in the same way the Mancs or Chelsea do. And, do Arsenal really develop tallent? IMO, its more they raid the academies of foreign clubs a year or 2 before a player is actually ready for the first team. Who was the last Arsenal academy lad who actually played for the first team?

    • Apparently I'm stuck with it.....think it's called a dose of 'davey's revenge'.....

Expect your's any day soon Roy.

    • The bottom line is here, Mr dsteer, is that sooner or later, the metaporical 'you', your team and the other two team's in the so called 'top 4'...but I won't include @rsenal in that because they at least try to develop talent,...take the view that they have a divine right to cherry pick anyone else's players at a price they think is ok...not so. ....Villa have extreme wealth themselve's and don't need to snatch the cash...and are in a position to say no, because it doesn't really matter that much to them,...what's £15M more or less to a billionaire?

Whichever way you look at it, in this case it's the sellers market not the buyer's, and if Rafa doesn't like it.......he has the perogative to go elsewhere........

    • Sorry dsteer but you're starting to sound like Rafa.
To sum up - "We don't really want Barry because we don't need him and we've already got a younger player than him who is better than him".
So if that's the case, go somewhere else to get your average players who you don't need, and you'll find they won't come much cheaper than the dismal offer that Rafa made.

Gerrard actually seems to be the driving force behind this, basically because he has linked up so well with him in the England squad and wants him at Anfield.

I'd also like to know what player you think it was who turned around the England squad during the qualifiers if it wasn't Barry. We actually won a couple of games after Barry came into the squad. I suppose it would be Carrick in your opinion then?
Of course I wasn't talking about the friendlies we've played since then.
