An Oxford English dictionary interpretation..
1. to bestow or confer, esp. by a formal act: to grant a charter.
2. to give or accord: to grant permission.
3. to agree or accede to: to grant a request.
Don't think he means that though!
Ah? How silly of me. Do you think he really means grunting,- that noise that seems to afflict so many of the women tennis players and quite a few of the men too. I find it irritating but I guess it is here to stay, just like the tie break

It's completely inaccurate to describe the fearsome noise that the likes of Sharapova, Azarenka, Larcher De Brito and the Williams sisters make as "grunting". These girls are screaming as loud as they possibly can. It is appalling gamesmanship and they should be penalised under the hindrance rule.
