    Defoe for Shaun Wright-Phillips?

Story in one of today's newspapers says Spurs and Chelsea in talks about swapping Defoe for SWP plus cash! Don't see the logic myself of bringing in another right sided Midfielder/winger. We have Lennon and Routledge and playing any of them on the left diminishes their threat and unbalances the team. Also, if they sell Defoe and then lose Berba at some point they will suddenly become a much less potent attacking unit. Surely not what Spurs want, if they are serious about Champions League qualification. Can someone tell me why Keane always gets the nod ahead of Defoe? Both great players but personally I feel Defoe and Berba worked really well when they played together last season and if anything had a better understanding between them than Keane and Berba. Too early to tell how Bent will fit in but he has yet to prove that he is a better or more effective striker than either Keane or Defoe. In my book he is fourth choice right now.

    • SWP - no thanks, we don't need him.

Defoe and Berbs up front - yes please! Keane will run around all day but spends much of the game a long way from goal. Defoe is a more natural finisher. We need goals.

Zokora and Hudds in midfield - again yes. A better option than having Jenas in there as both of them can defend and attack and could work well around each other.

    • well its not gonna happen. Im sure there was nothing to sell newspapers today so somebody dreamt up a headline.

I like SWP but he likes the bench at cheslea too much (roughly translated - cash)

so i dont think he will

Defoe for SWP is a good swap but spurs alledgedly want 4 mil on top to match the 15mil valuation by Aston Villa.

Such great imagination from these journo's!!

    • have to agree in part, although SWP can use his left foot, not often but he seems to be able to get to the byeline on the left as well, whereas lennon and routledge turn inside long before.

anyway, i think this is media talk again.

imo we still need a proper left sided midfielder to progress, we seem to have sorted it out partly, but not enough cover.

    • Keane would give his right arm for the club where as Defoe would bugger off for an extra £1 a week, Keane and Berbs linked magnificently at the end of last season, so Keane gets the nod every time.

SWP would be a great signing, both him and Lennon are both injury prone so hopefully one of them will be fit all the time. Routledge is nothing special and I would look to ship him out. Bale was wonderful on the left and with Lee we look to have some balance in the side, that would leave Malbranque as a squad player, which despite his 2 goals I think would suit us better.

Also how about Huddlestone and Zokora in the middle, I would love to see Zokora have the freedom to go forward and that would give us Jenas in reserve (and Boateng).
