Looking at Jol's selections, I'm not so sure he's the 'dummy' coach people have said.
Defoe is great as a striker, be he doesn't seem to make a good 'partner'. I had hoped that Bent was going to be his 'foil', so that we had two strike partnerships that could interchange. But they haven't gelled as yet. Keane and Berbatov seemed to hit it off straight away.
We had a problem on the left and he introduces Bale, who looks class.
Kaboul looks solid but a bit adventurous - so needs a final bit of work.
Boetang hadn't played and the Cyprus trip showed why. He isn't ready yet.
So all in all, if Jol is seeing all the above in the training sessions as well, you can now maybe understand why he's been picking the team he has.
There are only two bits I personally don't understand - why the love affair with Jenas....and when we get a lead in a game, is it Jol who tells the team to sit on the lead or does the 'team' do that (and then invariably lose it in the last minute)...? One of life's great mysteries.
As for tomorrow - we'll either get thumped 7-0 or my own personal hunch is that we'll come away with a 1-1.

Comolli buys the players! that's why MJ has trouble picking certain players as they don't fit in his way of things.
JJ on his day can be very influential and is very good going forward. however he does nothing that Bale isn't doing at the moment, and Bale is already a better player. it would be good to have someone like JJ to bring on to change things though. Don't know why Tainio keeps getting picked though. Personally I would like to see a 3 striker attack and go a teams a bit more - it showed against Villa that attack was the best policy.
I've not had much criticism of the team Jol puts on the field, I have had criticism of how he chooses to play them, and I have had criticism of his substitutions (when and sometimes, why!).
I've been pessimistic for a long time when Spurs go to Anfield (longer than you might even guess at), so, with the form, or lack thereof, that we're in versus the form the scousers are in (guess you really can't call them that given that they have, what, one, maybe two in the team)...I digress...I think this may be a low point...then again, there is always that intangible that says we get "up" for big games. I still think the best all around game we've played this season was the 1-0 loss to Manure (of course it doesn't say much, as we DID lose!).
Well, fingers crossed...stomach will be knotted by kick-off...see you lot on the other side.
