Chimbonda might have become surplus when we got Alan Hutton...but he would have made the ideal "squad player" backing Hutton up (give him a few extra bob he'd have taken it). Singling Chimbo out as a mercenary is totally fair (I mean i agree, he is, but don't make it sound like he's the only one out there...it's a new day, and the bandwagon called Me First is leaning-to with so many players jumping on it). I've stated before...A-G-E-N-T-S are the root of this evil...they plant the seeds then stand back and watch the greed grow.
Anyway, good luck to him...now who do we have as back up to hutton...oh, yes, our favourite Canadian, Paul Stalteri (swoon)...Actually YP Lee is actually a right back that's been played out of position since day one (We took him because of his performances in the World Cup...where he played Right-Back for S. Korea...now...ho hum).
Anyway, good luck to Chimbonda...NEXT!
Who do we have coming through the pipeline, any young prospects at fullback?
Oh and to change gears a bit...check out the pic in this piece, and tell me if Keano looks happy or not...
Also, doesn't Bent sound like Defoe of last season. I'm all for getting behind a player that wants to stay and fight for his place...prove a point if you will (call him the anti-Chimbo if you will). Would be nice if we heard the same from our current pair of strikers who are not giving me much to go on and not call them "want away" players. Be great if they stay though...I'll be on record with that statement (just not kissing arse while they make up their minds...on record for that statement too!)
Anyway, the pic...looks like DB's scored, but Robbies far from impressed.
Oh, an what is it with the Mail Onlines reporting...Bent only scored 8 goals...yes, not a good return for 16m and change...but how many games did he play (and how many of those did he play quality minutes). It's plain to see with strikers, they have to be on the pitch to get their timing and feel down (ask Keano and Berba, playing most games didn't hurt them did it). These reporters speak with forked tongue. I mean how hard is it to unseat a striking pair that are firing on all cylinders...I don't care how sharp you are in training, it just aint gonna happen. (So, I'm still wondering what the plan was when we bought DB)

Our back-up to Hutton is the young lad we bought from Cardiff, Chris Gunter, so Chimbonda is surplus to requirements. We only paid £4.5m for Chimbonda 2 years ago so £8m would represent a good deal, IMO.
Waterboy posted this in March...
I tend to agree.......whilst I was excited by the prospect of him joining us at first I quickly grew tired of his attitude and his getting caught out of position too often. He's done a good job on occasions but he was never solid enough for me and probably fancied himself a bit better than he actually was.
Add his January transfer Newcastle 'performance' and then his CC antics and its asta la vista!

I like Chimbonda, generally he's been pretty good news for us. What's that rubbish about him not making the first team? He's been playing, just quite often out of position.
I do understand him wanting to leave, and I understand people being pleased about it, I suppose he's served a purpose to us and we have to his career.
£8m is a very good piece of news : )
And even better is the news that L'pool have accepted a bid from Pompey for the stick insect!
Looks like Keane will be staying (she says hopefully)
Just seen too that reserve goalie Forecast has joined Southampton - no fee specified.
