    best goalkeepers ever?

He was a great character, Reading, and a class act, nobody disputing that.
But back to the original question though the keeper's list. Saw both guys many times, still have to have Banks at the top.

    • When I see modern day keepers leap backwards into the air arch their backs and theatrically tip a ball which is coming straight at them over the bar, accompanied by idiot commentators purring about a magnificent save. I often say to my son Pat Jennings or Gordon Banks would have stood under the bar, caught it with one hand and threw it out to a team mate, no fuss, no big deal.

      • Ive never understood the 'legend' that is Peter Shilton and I dont know what he is doing in the top 3?
Dont get me wrong he was a good goalie and played at the top for many years...which the only reason I can see for his top 3 billing....longevity. He was IMO an unspectacular workhorse and by the end of his career was viewed more as a freakshow attraction than a top class keeper.....he was about 75 by then wasnt he? Seriously though he never got near to any of the German penalties in the WC semi of 1990 and is as much to blame as Waddle and Pearce for us going out. Perhaps I just havent forgiven him for that really!!
