King Arrested then Released on Bail

Tottenham Hotspur captain Ledley King has been released on bail after being arrested for alleged assault outside a London nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning.

"Police on a routine vehicle patrol were flagged down by members of the public outside a nightclub in Soho Street at 2.30 am this morning," a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.

"A 28-year-old man was arrested and questioned on suspicion of a racially aggravated common assault.

"He has since been bailed to appear in a central London police station in mid-July."

King, who has 19 England caps, played in Tottenham's 0-0 draw at Everton in the Premier League on Saturday.

Tottenham confirmed in a statement that they were aware of an incident involving King while the player himself later issued an apology on the club's website.

"I sincerely regret that a night out with friends went too far," King, Tottenham's longest-serving player, said.

"I have apologised to (manager) Harry (Redknapp) and I fully appreciate that, as a professional footballer, I have a duty to behave in a responsible manner.

"I am assisting the police with their enquiries. Anyone who knows me, knows that much of what has been suggested is totally out of character.

"I am keen to resolve this as soon as possible and concentrate on my football. I shall be putting my all into ensuring I give of my best for the remaining fixtures."

This is the last thing your club needs with all the recent upheaval. Do you lot condone his actions? What happened to being a role model for the kids?

    • i do not condone it personally.....some will because he (like other celebrities) in their eyes can do no wrong.....no harm done they say....but there has been harm....not only to himself but the club and its supporters.....he has the status and a privileged lifestyle ....with that comes responsibility.......also therefore he is in the spotlight...but then i am old-fashioned with standards.....something to be laughed at?

      • I'm bitterly disappointed in him, and the more details I here the more disappointed I get. If it's true about the racist & homophobic comments, I hope he gets charged. Fair enough, we've all had a few too many at times, but racism, homophobia & violence just aren't acceptable (no matter what arseholes bouncers can be...).

I don't see why he was drinking like that at this stage anyway - Saturday may have seen us out of Europe this year, and as the club captain he should be the one trying to motivate the rest & keeping his head in the game; if I have a busy couple of weeks coming up at work I lay off the heavy nights, I don't see why he can't do the same - it's two more weeks for heaven's sake!

Finally, you would have hopes that recent events for Jermain & Palacios would have helped him get things into perspective, and that (again in his captain role, but also as someone who's known at least Defoe for years) he would be trying to support them, not buggering off and getting twisted at the first opportunity. The mood in camp's got to be low at the moment, it's his job to keep the team unit feeling up and keep everyone together. Acting this way is completely unprofessional.

Again, I wasn't there so can't say for sure what happened or if I right in thinking this, but the fact is he's been arrested for racially motivated assault. Especially considering the fact that he's been a victim of racism, he should be ashamed of himself.
