  • 1st of all very good win, everton are a good team who work really hard & never give up.
i thought we would draw this game so well done boys.

1st half we dominated & deserved the 2 goal lead.
but the 2nd half we looked dodgy & gave them a lot of chances.
i was fearing another 2-2 comeback for everton.

    pros.
good attacking football in 1st half.
pav looked lively again & another goal.
modric back to his best & superb goal!
kranjkar played a lot better than he has done recently.

    cons.
didnt fight hard enough in 2nd half.
didnt defend as a team in 2nd half.
tom getting injured, dont rate him highly but no other options?

dont agree with harry regularly taking off defoe our main goal threat on the 70min mark. (yes he had a quiet game but he regularly does that & then bang latches onto a loose ball & scores).
especially when he is replaced by eidur who did nothing except try to dribble the ball out of our area & got tackled. sorry but eidurs not spurs quality. would rather keane than eidur.

anyway, 3pts badly needed against a good team.

    • Pretty much how I saw it, SB. We were purring in the first half with the passing and the back-heels etc. Good job we had the bebefit of a two-goal cushion because yet again we allowed them to get into the game in the second half. I thought we actually missed Tom after he got injured, our shape seemed to go a bit, and Kaboul looked a bit lost. Modrich was brilliant. He and Bale on the left linked up superbly, defensively and in attack. Good to beat Everton, who are a form side at the moment, in the PL anyway. The SIX minutes added time scared me a bit though especially since they were creating a bit, and Donovan had missed an open goal!

    • everybodys hit the nail on the head with there comments on the game, so i just wanted to back up that IMHO we really missed hudds when he went off, kaboul for me isnt a DM and should be playing CB with daws. the midfeild looked out of shape and the range of passing wasnt there after hudds had gone. again IMHO hudds and palacios r our best 2 in the middle of the park with modric and lennon i think we r a quality team.

and back on to kaboul im not saying he shoukd start cos bassong has been a great signing , did u see he burst through the centre of the park shouting for the ball, he looked like big zok with his frightening speed lol. but maybe kaboul and daws 2 big fellas at the back is the future for spurs.

    • I think what this victory has shown is that we finally have the squad depth needed to sustain a real challenge. A lot has been said about Evertons injury list but lets not forget some of the names missing from our preferred first 11 eh? I know we had to bring on a couple of players who wouldnt normally be first choice but we still won so maybe we now have a squad capable of grinding resluts instead of just a few players. (Mind you..are Gudjohnsons legs made of solid lead or what? He needs to sharpen up quickly!)
Outside the top 3 Everton were the form side in the PL and it showed on their 2nd half performance. Yes we rode our luck at times but then we had some good breakways where we were 3 or 4 on 2 yet failed to capitalise. What Im saying is we could have scored a few oursleves 2nd half. It wasnt totally one way traffic so for me this was a deserved 3 points against a good side.
As for our midfield problems lets bring back Ohara, maybe slot Bale in on the left and BAE back in at left back.

    • For what it is worth I would just tlike to put my two penneth in here if thats ok.

Hudd has 45 mins where he does not play too badly and suddenly he is our best option in MF with Wilson!! As far as I could see he did not do anything spectacular and that was against a poor Everton performance.

Could it be that we looked worse off in the second half not because Hudd was not there but because Everton had to be better than they were and that Kaboul is not a MF player who was also making his first appearance for us (again).

Had Hudd been there it could be that the result would have been the same. Also, until Hudd performs for more than 45 mins and consistently well against better sides than Everton then I am still of the opinion that he is not good enough.

The only problem with Hudd being injured is we might get Jenas instead!!!

Oh and by the way, I said before this game (during our usual pre match doom and gloom, end of the world, nervous period) that we should be more optimistic about getting a result as we have a better squad now and I got a bit of stick for saying it. Well the result said it all I think. We have got a better squad now and should be able to cover injuries easier and change our formation to be able to "play" different teams depending on their strengths.

    • No stick from me Sfer - I'm always optimistic and believe we can beat any team - comes from being a long time Spurs supporter (50+ years). Like you - I get fed up with the doom and gloom merchants that come on here, or those that are so quick to jump on a slip or a poor performance. I've loved the Lilleywhites through good times and bad ... and was lucky enough to be going to the games during the early sixties when we were the best in the world.
We will be in Europe next year - hopefully in the CL - and that's going to help bring in a few players to bolster and improve the squad.
When they play up to the level they are capable of playing, we can beat any team in the league - and there's no reason we cannot have a great run in to the end of the season and surprise a lot of people - including a lot on this board!

    • i know sfer that u r not a fan of hudds , but i am and just wanted to know did u see the peach of a pass to defoe for the first goal. i do feel that given our squad when ever hudds and wilson play in the middle we r a better team, no he isnt the best midfielder in the world but he is the best we have to partner wilson.

i think uve gone off the deep end again with what people r saying about the game and hudds.

    • Not me, though, OF. I'm probably near your age + or -, and have seen it all, and never give up on our team...optimism, tempered with trepidation grips me every game, especially when there is still something to play for. For most clubs in the league the season is pretty much over!

    • "Optimism tempered with trepidation" - I love it HighRoad! One thing about being a Spurs supporter across the years is that it does give you a strong heart ... all that exercise it gets!

    • Yes O.F., I really feel for those poor Mancs and Gooners, etc.! They don't know they're born!
