I completely agree that there is no chance Capello will drop Lampard. And that's why Englands game will never change as long as the same midfield engine is used. It didn't work for Sven, Mclaren and now the same with Capello! Don't get me wrong, I do rate Lampard highly, he consistantly scores 20+ goals per season for Chelsea. But he's not being asked to play the same attacking role for England. He's constantly being made to hold back because Gerrard has his job. It's almost like asking the best goalie in the world to play as CB each time they have to defend a corner. He'd feel like his hands were tied behind his back. He's being made to play out of position. So what's the point? Better to pick a lesser known player that plays that role week in week out. It worked for the Germans last night... they were fantastic! And i've never heard of half their team.
But no England coach seems to have the gumption to leave Lampard or Gerrard out. I think either player will benefit if only one plays.
The only way i can see them both playing well at the same time, is perhaps in a 4-5-1 formation.
