SB again i see your point as i have said would be great to be in champions league again next year but the premiership this year is for the taking no one at the top has been superb and we had the chance to advance today, a draw is not a bad result but we need to win our games certainly at home and today has been no exception. We played really well today but a point is not good enough, we are now a top four side and the results this weekend have not gone for us so we need to move on but honestley i cannot see a better side than us at the moment, years ago yes but this year no we are in the mix to win it but todays result is not good even though we played the football.
mel, i think it depends what your target our for the season.
mine was to reach the knockout stages of the CL & finish top 4 again.
sounds u like u are targeting the title.
personally, i think we have a way to go yet before we start talking about the title.
we havent got the team yet who can go away to the likes of utd, everton, liverpool, city, newcastle, sunderland, bolton, brum etc & get a large percentage of wins out of those games.
we still need another LB, top quality CB & regular goalscorer to challenge for the title.
utd have under performed all season, yet they are still top. they will only improve & they will win the title at a canter.
i would take QF of CL & finishing 4th in the prem if it was offered to me now.
i actually think it will end up being between us & chelsea for 4th.
city will keep improving & stronger. if u keep buying better players u can only get better regardless of the manager.
im hoping city win the league. if they dont it will be utd & if utd & city somehow get worse then it will be arsenal.
i dont see why this is a must win game. a pt to utd is decent.
i was more optimistic of beating chelsea who are out of form, yet it took a last min pen save to stop us losing.
u could equally say if we cant beat an out of form chelsea at home then why would we beat a better utd team?
but in saying that i dont expect to lose either. i think both teams would settle for a pt considering the situation.
NB i see your point but we must win this game i agree we have not performed against United over the years but we have the best team we have had in many a year and i really do not see we have any excuse not to win, we must win this game to stay in the hunt to win premiership, admittidley we would be so happy to finish in the top four again we need to move on, everybody of all clubs in the premiership are talking about us at the moment of being the side that are going to shake things up, were already doing that so we have to move forward.
I know we do not know the result tomorrow but we have to win this game, it will not be dissatrous to lose or get a draw, but we must challenge Utd to still be known has the team that are hot in pursuit, this team is good we have to challenge them, and when we look at how many championships other teams have won since we done the double we are way behind so lets do it.
Sorry to be pessimistic, but I'm predicting 1 or 2 (VdV with Bale assist, and poss 1 for Bale himself) - 3 (Nani and a Berb brace). We don't do it against them when we're at our best, and I think - despite somehow scraping results - we've been far from that recently (probably since the Liverpool game).
I predict a fairly early Berb goal, with an equalizer just before half time; if we get a second it'll be after 50-55 mins, and 2 from them (Berb with the winner) in the last 15mins. I think Lennon will be pretty effectively marked out of the game - no idea why, but I'm pretty convinced of all these points!
I agree with MEL. A must-win game. But we've broken the jinx with the Ar$e by beating them in their own back yard this season and there's no reason we can't do the same tomorrow.
I think the lads can do it and from what I've read vdV saying in the last couple of days they have self-belief in spades. We're at WHL with the crowd behind us and you can bet they'll be hostile towards the Manure players. With their away form as it's been so far this season, I reckon we've got Fergie worried at coming to the Lane.
"what a great chance to prove our credentials "
BY, I was hoping to start a thread on this same subject tomorrow but you beat me to it. ;d
On the importance of Sunday's match, I'd go as far as saying your whole season rests on it, if Spurs can somehow manage to get the monkey of the losing and draw streak to Man U off their backs, it will be the clearest indication yet to all the other title contenders that Spurs mean business this season and last season's top 4 finish isn't a 'one-season wonder'.
Personally, I believe that Spurs have all the ammo at their disposal to defeat Man U, but they have to show it on the pitch where it actually counts in order to be taken seriously.
Also, there's the big incentive of being the side who finally ends Man U's little unbeaten run. Good luck Yiddos!!!
I don't think there will be a better time to beat them BY. We are on form and at home - they are away and have been "lucky" in terms of results.
On paper, I would rather have at least 9 of our players in my team rather than theirs.
Van De Sar V Gomes = not much in it so go with Gomes
Evra V BAE = both capable of being either great or rubbish so stay with BAE
Vidic V Gallas = tough one. Vidic probably edges it.
Ferdinand V Dawson = for me Rio has lost it so go with Dawson
Neville V Hutton = no choice, Hutton every time
Giggs V Bale = say no more
Fletcher V Modric = same
Carrick V Jenas = Close call
Nani V Lennon = Lennon for me
Berbatoss V VDV = VDV all the way
Rooney V Defoe = on present form Defoe gets it
Some will disagree of course and also you could put others in like Scholes, Park etc but so could we with Pav, Hudd etc.
If we turn up on Sunday (and that is still an if unfortunately) I fully expect a win. I would feel better if we had a better holding MF option for this game but going forward we are a much better side that Manure. COYS !!!

No Kaboul - serving out his last game of the suspension (the Charlton game must not have counted as it was the Cup not the League). Still I'll take Billy Gallas alongside Daws. Fingers crossed Wilson doesn't play his usual wayward passing game. Interesting choice of Crouch to start though maybe he'll introduce Daffy in the second half with Wilson coming off and vdV moving into the midfield?
I've got a good feeling about this one, the first time for ages re United! It should be close, and there will be goals, so I'm going with 3-2 to us! Both sides have been grinding out results without having to be at their best, and both side like to counter-attack, so it will be played at 100mph. But looking at the way the teams compare, I think we have the greater talent on show! COYS!!!
