Tottenham Hotspur Message Board
if you want to know how useless the a-holes running spurs at the moment really are then look at this youtube video of dos santos, digest the fact that he destroyed the USA last night, remember that he is employed by 'arry and levy and ask yourself why he hasn't played for the 1st team. it is utterly beyond words!
FFS will you all stop with the personal insults!
Joan/Ed/whoever you are - you seem to delight in deliberately baiting people to see what reaction you get or taking offence at what others post. For the most part we have sensible debate about our club but if you don't wish to join with that then I for one would prefer you not to post at all. You can slate me for having that opinion if you like but I really don't want to see our board drop to the level of vitriol and tripe so prevalent on some of the other club boards on Yahoo.
This is a Spurs football board so PLEASE can we just concentrate on things Spurs-related and stop the petty backbiting that seems to be pervading the board of late.
"We should all vanish...."? No, Low Life John, just you - go to the place where ignorance and bigotry thrive. Not sure where that is? Bend over, all the way, and look up. That's where - if there's room of course!
Is this what you really think of me "joan"? I'm truly, truly devastated. It'll take me a long time to get over it, but I'll be strong.
GDS may be more than an average striker, who knows? maybe he can even cut it in the PL now. But these montages cobbled together on youtube make anyone look good. But I should not have an opinion really should I? Only ed's and "joan's" are the truth. We should all vanish and let "them" have the board to themselves...
I am sure Arry is out there somewhere dealing and wheeling. I just hope he doesn't want too much of a bargain and that Levy's pockets are not too deep for him to reach the dosh.
There must be loads of players that rate themselves good enough for Manure or Chelsea but who are not getting "the call". The trick is finding the diamonds out of this pool - good enough to warrant a go, not ridiculously expensive and willing to prove themselves right and Manure wrong.
Arry is supposed to be good at that and now is the time to prove it.
No- I agree, after re-reading the convo, it seems I need some gramatical lessons and actually we are making similar points.
Harry isn't a bad manager and I'm sure he's up to somthing(transfer wise), he wouldn't be Harry otherwise and we sure as shit couldn't go another transfer window without having a flutter.
Of course you are right KM but I do think there is some money in the pot to spend if the right player came up at the right price. That said, if we did buy somebody it would probably hurry up the sale of a couple of players at reasonable prices to balance the books.
The aforementioned Cahill deal would kill two birds with one stone of course.
Part of the problem is players like Keane are not very saleable either because their value has decreased so much or they are demanding too much salary. It takes a while for the ego's of some of these former "stars" to realise that they cannot comand big fee's anymore. At that point they either retire or are happy to go anywhere just to carry on playing. That decision shows how much they love the game or how much they love the money! Pires to AV is a good example. He could (and some say should) have retired and he is obviously not earning as much at AV as he was (but still a fair whack) but he gave it a go because he loves the game.
Its a game KM and if Arry pushed Levy to sign a particular player Levy would be saying "right, who/how many is/are going and for how much?" The more paid out would mean the more going.
HI Sfer, i've just read and posted re 4 players for Cahill.
I understand where you're coming from regarding Harry identifying targets etc... But if he had done so in January when we were all crying out for a new striker or 2 we might not be in the situation we are and could well have qualified for CL again next year.
This is something I have been bleating on about with the people running the club for a few seasons. They always seem to want to wait til the last possible moment to buy hoping, as with VDV, they get a class cut price deal. Yet we have lost our CL place by his very process. After the January window they were saying how we nearly bought this striker and nearly bought that one for the sake of a few million extra on the transfer price. Et al it's cost us a lot more than a few million and may yet cost us the best part of our team!!
The problem is Sfer that whilst we all acknowledge the need to buy new players the fact is that until we offload some of our surplus playing staff (ie get them off our wage bill) we're in a bit of a chicken-and-egg situation.
I can't imagine Levy would be happy to bring in new players on big wages while paying for the regular 1st team wages plus wages for the likes of Keane, JJ, Hutton etc to either sit on the bench or not play at all. Loan deals might help in the short term but ultimately they'd end up still on our wage bill if there wasn't a sell-on clause or, like the Hammers with Keane last season, they're relegated so the sale doesn't happen.
I hope that Levy takes a sensible line in not demanding too high a price for any of the outgoing players, but equally that those outgoing players don't scupper potential moves by asking for silly money to play each week.
IMO Keane is past his best and shouldn't be expecting c£60k a week to play elsewhere, ditto JJ and probably a few others (in terms of salary demands). Surely if they want to play regularly they should be content to do so for less money, especially as it's highly unlikely any of the top 4 PL clubs will come in for them and pay them megabucks.
Thats my point Joe, none of us really know what is going on do we? They can't tell the papers every time they have a discussion about a player and anyway, even if that discussion went further and became real dialogue, they would not want other clubs to know about it would they so we have to be kept in the dark as well.
I see today that we have supposedly offered a fairly unique deal to Bolton for Cahill. If that happened it would satisfy those supporters who have been crying out for another good CB AND those that want to see the deadwood shipped out as there are about 4 players being offered in exchange BUT it would not satisfy those supporters who would rather we bid for another striker first.
You say "You are correct there are many things Harry cannot help or stop, but there are things he can help and can do, like identifying realistic targets, acting on those targets and maintaining a no-sell policy on our stars." but do you really think Arry is sitting on his hands doing absolutely nothing? He wants to get some more quality players the same as we do and I believe he has and is making attempts to get them but we won't know about it until either its a done deal or it gets leaked.
I am as frustrated about the lack of good news as you are mate but there is nothing we can do about it is there.
Well put Joe - agreed. As for supporting our team; well, that never stops and the way we support is different for different people (some like to speak of past glories of a player or manager in support of that player or manager; others deal with the here and now and align with it or question it...and a myriad of other combinations of stuff).
This Joan person has "her" way (I noticed the quote marks Sfer...I think I've used them myself and its in regard to the sheer force of aggression that seems to be hind those posts...add that to the depth of negativity and it alomost makes me wonder if this Joan isn't a gooner troll - sorry if you're not Joan, but this is just what I glean from your posts and my experience with the trolls that have darkened this board.
What we'd love to see is activity, like what's going on at OT; what we're seeing is nothing, save the departure of Jamie O'Hara (who incidentally got his chance when Oneday was around...oh, who incidentally won us our first bit of silverware in ages, but, who, unfortunately could do no more than set 'Arry up as our saviour).
I digress, I think some of us are extrapolating without cause with regard to this reported mass exodous...no one's gone yet; the speculation about our top players is inevitable...they're pretty damn good players, who wouldn't be interested in them...I mean look at the Goons, they're on the verge of giving up on their best player...manure sold Ronaldo a few seasons back...shit happens; as long as we get good coin for who's going out the door and then use that coin to bring in good replacements we'll be alright. Best scenario is, Modric, Bale and Lennon go nowhere, we unload those players who are surplus (and at this point that would include Dos Santos) and unload them at a loss if need be, because once you've let a player know he's not in your plans he's pretty much dead to you as a servant of the team...you'll get the odd one that might get fired up to prove the manager wrong, but most will go into a shell and just wait for the inevitable.
Right now it's easier to slate the Spurs brass than sing its praises...after all, inactivity during the winter transfer window (and definitely the previous off-season) cost us a return to the CL next year...and without that carrot dangling bringing in new players of the calibre we need is always going to be a tough task (and keeping those we need to keep...especially after they've tasted life in the promiseland). Yes, we did make it there once...and we did well, proved we belonged, but getting back there is going to be the toughest proposition of all and right now, the movers and shakers at Spurs are not looking like they're doing enough to challenge for that honour.
