  • Large parts of Tottenham have been burnt to the ground by rioters, a police spokesman has claimed that after the total damage has been assessed, it could come to as much as twenty pounds!

    • of course it doesn't matter to you reactionaries that all this was caused by the cops murdering an innocent boy - but then he was black, wasn't he, and to you scumbags that doesn't matter, does it?

      • "cops murdering an innocent boy". What facts do you have to back up that statement Ed?

And you call us reactionary and scumbags! It seems it's pointless trying to reason with you since you've clearly already made up your mind about it.

Our responses to the original post were because somebody poked fun at those who've had their lives and livelihoods destroyed by wanton acts of vandalism and violence through no fault of their own. Have you no sympathy for them, and do you also condone the rioting and looting in other areas of London, organisers of which used this incident as an excuse for causing mayhem?

      • Or an armed drug dealing gang member who had been watch for some time because of his criminal activity was removed from the streets perminantly.

All depends how realistic you want to be.

      • These people don't know why they're doing what they're doing until some stupid wet apologist tells them. Up until then it just feels good to hurt, maim, and burn out innocent people. And profitable. Now they can feel justified because the lefty weirdos have put the words into their mouths that they hadn't thought of themselves. This is more akin to what happened in Germany in the 1930s than any form of protest. And we get people more or less giving it their blessings? Nazis.

    • This is no time for sick humour!

What started as a peaceful protest was hijacked by others with a wider agenda and as a consequence innocent people have lost their livelihoods and homes. I doubt those who escalated matters will feel sorry or have any sympathy for the people whose lives have been destroyed. It could take years to restore community relations in such a deprived area of London and I don't envy those that task falls to.

    • Roy. No mate. Not funny at all.

    • A leading charity worker in inner city London spoke on radio 2 yesterday, a real insight she gave into the rumbling cauldron. She said her dept. had dealt with 600 mentally disturbed youths over the past couple of years and of that total just under 400 did not even have birth certificates. Some of the occomadation she'd visited had ceilings hanging down and single mothers with up to 3 children. Many of the mothers were not literate enough to fill benefit forms in even and hence the stray to prostitution and drugs.

She bitterly condemned the riots, but said masses of these youths had no parental guidance, no jobs, no money and no hope, so therefore hence their resentment. How do you think these kids feel she said, when many live on 40 odd quid a week and they are confronted by other more fortunate youths marching past wearing £120 trainers. Food for thought eh---wonder what these same younguns feel about these 100 grand a week footballers.

      • As I said, there is no one reason for all of this. There are loads of reasons built up over a long time and consquently there is no one answer and it will take even longer to rectify BUT that will only happen IF there are some very big and brave decisions made.

Personally I don't for one minute think those decsions will be taken because the PC brigade are now too heavily part of our society. The decisions would involve hurting some peoples feelings and the PC's and the experts on Human Rights would be shouting from the rooftops.

So, we will talk about giving the needy more money, trying to help them find jobs (even though they don't actually want to work) - and before you say anything I have worked in Recruitment for the last 20 years and I have seen so many oiks come in and pretend they want to find a job just to keep their social worker happy and so that they can keep claiming it makes me sick - and all the time the situation will get worse.

Blame who you like but the fact is we have 3 or 4 generations of illiterate, selfish, greedy, parasites who are largely beyond help and therefore things are not going to get better. As I said, I will be well gone before it gets to the situation where the cost of "looking after" these mindless thugs is higher than the tax paying people can afford but its my kids I worry about. Perhaps I could persudae them to come and live with me in a country that still knows right from wrong and where people have some respect for each other rather than how big your gun is.

Depressing I know but I live in the real world not in some fairy land where everybody, no matter what race, gender, class, religion or level of education, gets along just honky dory with everybody else. Its a recipe for disasterthat is only just starting to show how messed up it is with ghettos and no go areas. Its going to get worse, a lot worse, in my opinion. Sharia Law WILL be effective(if it isn't already) in some areas sooner than you think and the police and the poiticians will be powerless to stop it.

    • Going on the words of ed, we should assume that it will now be the turn of the shop/home/car owners who have had their lives destroyed (in many cases to go to the homes of the scum and burn their homes down.
I dont think this will happen. Mainly because despite the loss many poor people have just experienced at the hands of these rioters they themselves have too much compassion and concideration for society to cause such chaos.

In conclusion there is no excuse for the scum to act as they do. Many have probably never attempted to get a job, thus ever paid or contributed to our society in any way, other than most likely to fund the growing drug trade.
Criminals plane and simple. Give police more powers to use more force.

    • We agree on one thing :p the county is being screwed Government after Government.

We really do need change, For the better.
We need to tell the EU to sod off, and take it's HR Act with it, Sort out this Health and Safety lark so people can do their jobs Properly.
We need an Aussie Style System for the UK Borders.
We need to dump the Quango's and get back to basics in all areas. And throw out those who shouldn't be here.
Until that Happens, we are screwed.
I cant, sadly, leave England, many are.
But then I will miss My Beloved Spurs.

    • What did the looters steal ? Cars ? Did they break into banks ? They stole mostly TVs mobile phones, and trainers. I think it's disgusting that 5 people were murdered, and the guilty should face the full force of the law. We have become a greedy society, and it started with Thatcher.

    • We can argue all year and will never agree.
You believe Guardian stats I dont.

    • Confuscious he say...

'If kids are not reprimanded and given boundaries.....they'll burn down the village'
