Hello Gylfi Sigurdsson = bye bye Modric?

These two are far too similar in style to play in the same side aren't they? If the rumours are true, and we have beaten Pool to his signature, does that mean we have resigned ourselves to losing Modric?

    • Sfer,

I've just read this on-line. I wasn't aware that we were after Gylfi- Who knew? This could well be an over active rumour mill!

I have resigned myself to losing Luka, I'm surprised that it hasn't already happened. IMO Luka wasn't his usual superb self in the second of the season. Madrid or Manchester will get the little man I reckon!

      COYS!!

      • I agree Joe. I think Modric has gone already. If that is the case though, and if these rumours are true which seems to be the case, I would be reasonably happy with Sigurdsson especially as it would have been a deal done with no Manager in place.

It would show that Levy is at least making sure we don't end up at the start of the season without a replacement for one of our best players.

My main concern though is who we have up front. I have heard nothing about Adebyor who presumably has gone and is too expensive anyway. If I am right, that leaves us with only Defoe and not a lot of time (or money!) to get at least another two strikers in.

That would be galling enough but then seeing Ar$e sign two strikers already makes me very frustrated. We need to get the new manager sorted and in ASAP.

    • As usual John you are taking everything literally. Of course I am not saying Arry did not want to acheive CL football - nobody is saying that.

What I am pointing out is that Arry has a track record of saying what he believes people want to hear but then ignoring his own words and doing something else. I for one think it was a mistake for him to say that Spurs could win the PL.

And, as we have said ad-infinitum, we think Arry had CL football in his grasp and blew it with his tactics and decisions. He may have "wanted" it but he didn't "go" for it and that will be forever to his shame.

I really couldn't live in your World John. You read something, interpret it in your own weird way and then go on the attack in an effort to justify your opinions regardless of what anyone else thinks.

    • Sfer,
      I simply replied to:
'.....sad to see him go but he deserves to be at a team thats at least in the CL. not 1 who settles for less.....'

So I asked if SB actually thought 'arry really didn't want CL football. Is that such a weird viewpoint?

What else does 'settles for less' mean?

    • john, carry on doing your own weird interpretations.

u seem to never do this with harrys words.

he talks us up for the title like u say.
but then he says he is happy to settle for 4th & hope other teams do us a favour.
surely with your views, u think he should have gone for 3rd more. especially as he thinks we can be title challengers.
i could go on & on john. but u will never admit it & u will change the argument.

my point was modric is at a team who settled for 4th knowing there was a chance this wouldnt be good enough for a CL place.
i personally belive modric deserves to be at a team who is in the CL every year.

but u can twist it how u like to defend everything harry!

we are 3rd-harry says we can win the title.
3rd is within grasp- harry says he will settle for 4th & hope others do us a favour.
a win against villa is within grasp- harry says he will always settle for a pt with 10men.

u seriously dont think he has contradicted himself big time their.
we are 3rd yet harry says we can challenge for the title.
we are 4th-harry says we should settle for that & hope others do us a favour.
we are drawing at villa with 10men-harry says we should setlle for a pt.

why do i even bother. u will never admit harrys contradictions & mistakes.

      i think i know why!

harry says we can win the title-
at the same time john says reach for the stars & go for the top blah blah blah.

harry says settle for a pt at villa & hope others do us a favour-
john says a pt is a good pt & u shouldnt risk going for the 3pts as u could lose the 1pt u got.

harry says he settle for 4th as usual that gets u CL football.
john says at the begining of the season 4th was our aim, so we should stick with that.

john has become more & more deluded!

    • "I'm quite happy to go on replying to this sort of stuff."

yes we all know u will do anything but admit a harry mistake or a contradiction by him or u.

if u really need to lie to yourself this bad then u have real problems.

if it was me, id say hey i backed harry as he reflected my reach for the top attitude. but then he started settling for 1pt & 4th place. he settled on otheres doing us a favour.
thats not the way i would have done things.

but no, not u john. u just do a huge 360 on everthing u said before!

    • Precisely SB, and I think 'arry did:
      1) go for a title challenge when it looked possible
      and
      2) went for finishing as high as we could throughout the whole season.

I also think he went to win the CL when we were in it.

      I never saw anything else.

    • JL,

'2) went for finishing as high as we could throughout the whole season.

I also think he went to win the CL when we were in it.

      I never saw anything else.'

      COYS!!!!

    • ha ha ha. funny joe.

at first i thought john knew he was lieing but enjoyed arguing.

now, after this bombshell i think he must be deluded!

it is a big break through!

'2) went for finishing as high as we could throughout the whole season.

      I never saw anything else."

he genuinely thought harry went for finishing as high as possible despite harry saying he settled for 4th & settled for a pt at villa.

we could have got 3rd but harry openly admits he settled for 4th.

john sees it as harry finishing as high as possible!

      grand delusions!

after chelsea win the CL harry says he wouldnt change a thing.
he would still settle for 4th & hope for others do us a favour.

john sees it as harry finishing as high as possible!

    • Joe,
I think you're severely confusing results with wanting to win.

If you Sfer and SB honestly think that 'arry didn't try to finish as high as he could than that amazes me.

What worries me though, is if that is the case and that is honestly what you believe, why have Sfer and SB both said they would have given him another year? A manager who doesn't want to get as high as possible?

If that is the yardstick for normal, then I'm quite glad that I'm classed as weird.

john, i think that shows a lot about u then us.

part of your problem is everything is so black & white.

life & football are much more complex.

if u see everything so black & white then u will find most people who dont think like that weird.

      anyway. to answer your question.

harry has done a lot of good things for spurs.
he has also recentley made quite a few mistakes.

i would have given him another year because of the previous work he has done. yes u can pick holes in my reasoning but i think lots of good work deserves to buy u some time.

u dont like the way i say i like harry but then criticise him.

the fact u find that so weird says more about u john.

even with the best managers, fans can find lots of things they did wrong. it doesnt mean they cant say they like them because they criticise them.

for example fergie. he has been superb for utd.
but obviously utd fans can list tons of mistakes he has made.
this doesnt mean they cant say they like fergie because they criticise him.
he has made a lot of bad signings.
he still thinks his CM area is strong enough. it has clearly been far too weak for a few yrs now.

but they realise all the good stuff he has done clearly out weighs the mistakes.

these mistakes are inevitable. no manager is flawless.

if u think so black & white like u, either u are flawless or u are bad. u give yourself no middle ground & u make things far too simplistic this way.
but to make matters worse u then go in to great depth & things that arent as relevant.

i think harry cost us big time last season. he messed up badly with previously mentioned decisions. we will lose modric & a lot of money because of it.
this is good enough reason to sack harry on its own.

im a soft touch, i would give him 1 more year to learn from his mistakes as a reward for previous good work he has done.
i think more because i want to see him do well & it work out between the club & him.

but do i think harry will learn from his mistakes & take us foward?
NO! he has become more stubborn in his mistakes.
& now finds it hard to admit making any when he so obviously has. in interviews he has become annoying like daglish.

levy has made a brave decision in sacking harry.
but i do think its the right one because i dont think harry will learn from his mistakes & i do think he has limitations in his attributes.

huge contradiction from me! i say id give harry 1 more year but i dont belive he will take us foward.

hard for u to understand john, i know!

levy doesnt want to waste another year on harry especially after the way he went about contract negotiations.
it was really taking the P.

another reason i would have given harry another year is because there isnt many better managers about we could attract.

im sure if we dont finish top 4th next season, people say we would have done with harry. but i disagree.

if anything next season will be much harder. chelsea cant be as bad. arsenal & liverpool hugely under performed too.
so unless all 3 of them under perform again, next season will be a lot tougher to get top 4. especially without key man modric.
main reason modric is going, lack of CL football.
      thats harrys doing!
