Tottenham Hotspur have completed the recruitment of their new coaching staff with the appointment of Steffen Freund as assistant head coach.
The former Germany midfielder was popular with Spurs fans during his five-year spell at White Hart Lane between 1998 and 2003, during which time he won the League Cup.
He will now take up a place in the dugout alongside head coach Andre Villas-Boas.
Since retiring in 2004 Freund has coached at several youth levels of the German national team – last year taking the U17 side to the final of the European Championship and to third place at the World Cup - and was assistant to Berti Vogts with Nigeria for their 2008 African Cup of Nations campaign.
A winner of the European Championship with Germany and the Champions League with Borussia Dortmund, Freund joins recently-hired first team coach Luis Martins at the Spurs Lodge training ground.

I'm with you on Freund's playing style, he wasn't exactly pretty to watch, a midfield general, but not easy on the eye.
If he's been trusted to coach the Germany national side at any level he clearly knows what he's doing. The under 17's are very highly rated and the German youth system is deemed to be one of the best in the world. I think we have give him a chance.
From what I remember he gave everything when he played for us, if he can help in-still that in our players, then his appointment should be a very successful one.
I take what you said quite literally? Weren't you trying to imply in general that 'arry's purchases were poor? If not, I apologise.
As for Naughton/Walker - check it and see.
Fine if you disagree about player purchases being good/bad - all I would say is that with the purchases that 'arry-Levy made, we achieved 4-5-4. So, irrespective of 'opinion' the purchases seem to have performed at quite a high level. That included the contributions of the players that you think weren't good purchases.
Why include Jenas and Bentley - I don't think they were arry's purchases either.. Check and see. I think Jenas was way back and Bentley before 'arry arrived in 2008.
How is it nit picking to point out that people you imply were 'arry's purchases I don't think were? Should I just accept what you state as fact?
For the sake of clarity John, and to prove my point about you analysing things and coming up with the wrong conclusion.....
"Still, that is Arry and his penchant for reserecting old knackered players careers and what happens when you pay someone too much and then can't get rid of them because they won't go for less (Bentley!)"
The important word in that sentence is "and" meaning my view, not generally disagreed by many others, is that Arry buys older players who are coming to the end of their careers and gets another season or two out of them but the "and" was intended to show that if you (anybody) buy any player and pay him too much it makes them difficult to get rid of. I did not say that Arry did that inparticular just that that happens.
I was making a general point or two - you don't think they were 100% accurate so you go digging around for some stats (as per) and then nitpick AGAIN but once AGAIN you misinterpreted what I was saying. Very, very boring John.
I see your "fan" club has posted about your long and boring statistic laden posts and arguments with SB. You just keep on going despite requests to stop don't you John.
Go pick an argument somewhere else - I'm sure with your penchant for misinterpreting everything that should be easy.
I thought you said:
'...Its amazing how much dead wood we have collected over the last few years. Bentley, Jenas, Hudd, Gallas, Cuduccini, Gomes for example. Still, that is Arry and his penchant for reserecting old knackered players careers and what happens when you pay someone too much and then can't get rid of them because they won't go for less (Bentley!).....'
I simply pointed out that the names you quoted weren't all 'arry's purchases - so were a poor set to use as an example. If you're saying your two sentences above weren't meant to show /imply examples of 'arry's purchasing then fine Sfer.
'I was making a general point or two - you don't think they were 100% accurate so you go digging around for some stats (as per) and then nitpick AGAIN but once AGAIN you misinterpreted what I was saying. Very, very boring John....'
See, we have different levels of boredom. What I find boring is when some quotes something as though it is a fact, and it isn't, and then objects when their mistake is pointed out. In your list of Bentley, Jenas, Hudd, Gallas, Cuduccini, Gomes (assuming that it is meant to then reflect 'arry's purchases) - how many were actually 'arry's purchases (I'd guess at 2 out of 6) ?
I have already posted saying why I think 'arry was 'let go' - and that was to do with the age of the squad. The issue about not getting rid of expensive (wages) players is a different one. 'Arry did well (IMO) in bringing players like Gallas, Cudicini, Nelson, Friedel,Saha etc on board to fix problems - most came on a small transfer fee or were free. Most will either retire or move on without a problem (Saha, Nelson already gone). The likes of Bentley and Jenas - well they weren't arry's purchases, but are still a drain and IMHO agree should have been sold - but is the fact they are still around of 'arry's doing? I would simply guess that the club couldn't get the right price for them. As said before, I'm not sure who actually handles purchases/sales - as we've seen Levy involved in VdV, Gylfi, Vertonghen recently - and hold out for 'best deals' on Berbatov (and I would now guess Modric).
As for T'Hudd - well even though again 'arry didn't buy him, I personally thought he did well for us and hope he'll still be in the squad next season. That'll be up to Mr Boas.
I have also pointed out that although the squad did 'age' under 'arry, 'we' tend to forget the 'young' talent that did come through under him. AND whether 'arry's purchases were liked or disliked - he managed to blend those players into a team that did 4-5-4. Not bad at all in my opinion.
You can now say I waffle, am boring, quote stats ....blah, blah blah ...or even more humorously you can do your 'word' bit. That always makes me chortle.
I never said I wanted a "glamour" name instead of Freund Joe. In fact I would rather not have one of those but I would have prefered someone with better credentials thats all.
I wouldn't mind if Ade signs and I wouldn't mind if Kane gets more of a chance BUT either way, we need another top class striker - for cover and to give whoever is already here some competition.
Its amazing how much dead wood we have collected over the last few years. Bentley, Jenas, Hudd, Gallas, Cuduccini, Gomes for example. Still, that is Arry and his penchant for reserecting old knackered players careers and what happens when you pay someone too much and then can't get rid of them because they won't go for less (Bentley!)
If we could offload them we would easlily have enough cash to buy at least one good player and pay them a reasonable (albeit that what they earn is ridiculous) wage. Time is running out though - we need them in now so that they can get a few pre-season games in otherwise we might start the season with a few losses.
Why am I not surprised you have taken what I have said quite literally and analysed it to the Nth degree and then....disagreed.
Did I say all of those I listed were Arry buys? No
You may say Gallas did a very good job. Your opinion. I thought he had a few good games initially but after that he was average IMO of course. Where did Freidel get mentioned????
Could be wrong but I thought Naughton and Walker were at Spurs before Arry. Of the others I would disagree that Crouch, Pienaar and Kranjcar were "pretty good" and I have always maintained that VDV was as much of a negative for the squad as he was a positive but of course thats just my opinion..
So out of your list of "pretty good" only Kaboul, Sandro, Defoe and Parker remain. 4 years of spending and wheeling dealing and 4 players that you say are worthy of congratulating Arry and Levy for.
No mention of Bentley or Jenas in there I see - what, they don't help support your view so leave them out is that it??
Not going to get into a long drawn out, statistic laden, boring argument with you John but I will finish with this.....if you continue to nit pick at everything anybody says on here I for one will stop bothering to say anything at all. I can fight off all of the childish Ar$e interlopers on here but you.......there is no debating with because you NEVER see what the other person is actually saying.
Our need for proven goal scorers has never been so clear, one recognised first team striker! AVB and Levy had better get busy.
Who'd you like to see in? Ade? Kane given a chance? both or someone else?
I can understand your point about Freund, a bigger more glamours name would have been interesting and may have been a little more inspiring, but IMO no matter their playing reputation, they must be right for the job. Good players don't always make good managers/assistants/coaches, equally average players don't always make average back room staff.
Lets hope Freund can bring some of that German efficiency to the Lane.
Sfer - the stats:
I think the transfers (and 'arry's appointment) followed in order as:
Jenas - Aug 2006 (? Jol)
Bentley - July 2008 (? Ramos)
'arry - Oct 2008
Naughton - July 2009 (? 'arry)
Walker - July 2009 (? 'arry)
Double check if you want, as the source may be wrong.
