So we lost 2-0 - but if the reports are accurate, we deserved more.
Spurs (4-2-3-1): Friedel; Walker (Naughton, 77), Gallas, Vertonghen, Assou-Ekotto; Jenas (van der Vaart, 61), Livermore (Carroll, 88); Lennon, Sigurdsson (Kane, 80), Bale (Townsend, 77); Defoe.
I can understand why Kaboul wasn't there, but a bit lost as to why Daws didn't start. And does Jenas having 60 minutes mean that he's staying? No T'Hudd either.
No more games before Toon? The lack of goals pre season is understandable with Daffy's unfortunate issues (and the obvious lack of alternatives). I'm not sure anyone can tell either from the formations and squad players used what AVB's preferred team/squad and formation is yet.
And Sandro, Two Saints, Rose, Parker and Modric haven't had a chance to be really assessed by AVB so far. Not ideal for him.

I watched the game last night (see first post) and although we had some really good attacking moves both goals were defensive lapses. First was a good shot from outside the box which should have been closed down and the second from the corner of the 6 yard area across Friedel into the far corner. I think Vertonghen could have prevented the shot and Friedel IMHO should have done better. We had more of the play early on and had the better chances but Valencia took their opportunity and took the lead. Lennon was denied twice in the space of a minute early on.
They had better ball retention after the goal but never really made that much headway.
Second half they had us running around and closed us down very quickly when we had the ball. We had chances but Defoe didn't have his scoring boots on and their keeper was on his game.
I hope AVB has learned a lot from this game!! Yes we had some influential players missing but we will struggle in the EPL if we don't sort things out soon. Team looked a bit lost at times.
Again all IMHO.
