    What team would you pick?

Now that the 25 man squad has been named what team would you pick? I know it depends on who we are playing and at home or away but what side would you like to see on the park?

    Mine is;

    Lloris
    Walker
    Kaboul
    Vertonghen
    BAE
    Lennon
    Parker
    Dembele
    Bale
    Defoe
    Adebyor

Sub - Dempsey, Sandro, Friedel, Gallas and Sigurdson

I wouldn't mind if Dempsey started in place of either Defoe or Adebyor to be honest but I had to make a choice. We are light across the back four but can't do anything about that now.

At least this side would have the chance to score some goals.

    • Basically the same.
Daws instead of Kaboul - simply because I think Daws is far better in the air and I haven't seen this 'high line' that would expose Daws' lack of pace.
I'd use Dempsey (as a No 10) in behind Ade (so Daffy on the bench) rather than playing a straight 2 up front (ie keep a 4-2-3-1). With Bale and Lennon wide, it doesn't make sense to me not have an aerial threat. That's as you say, 'in general'.

I think you can only judge Lloris,Vertonghen,Dembele, Sigurdsson and Dempsey after they've had the pitch time to show what they can do and what qualities they bring. So far Vertonghen has been 'ok' to me, nothing special. Sigurdsson again ok'ish so far. How they'll get the pitch time to show what they can do will be AVB's challenge.

    • I would have Sandro over Parker, and Dempsey over Defoe ( better off bench than full game unfortuneatly ) havent seen Lloris, so would have to stick with Brad for now.

      • I wouldn't have a problem with those changes Rem. Parker and Sandro are very similar. I just think Defoe is a natural goalscorer who deserves a longer run in the team. He could have gone elsewhere and played regularly but he stuck with us and should get his chance. Dempsey is pretty good but I just prefer Defoe - for now.

Lloris is the France keeper and has a great reputation. I put him in because he is the future and no matter how sentimental we can get about Freidel, he can't go on forever. What I do very much like about Friedel is that he obviously loves playing football and would probably play for the sunday team just to get a game which is much more admirable than the likes of BAE who would rather stay at home than play for nothing.

The interesting thing is you have gone for an attacking team as well whilst AVB looks set on putting out defensive teams which, IMO, does not suit our style. We shall see!

    • Playing two up front?

One holding and one attacking midfielder?

Wish someone would send AVB a memo explaining these simple obvious ideas he cant seem to grasp!

    • "You see, mate. These geezers on ere's arses are dropping out and we're only 5 minutes into the season. The Portuguese lad's deffo got his work cut out, believe me."
"Aye, Harry---no wonder your shaking your head. Here, take this hankie and dab your eyes and move on."

      • I'm sure someone else has already listed this but, currently (due to injuries) for the Reading game (15-9-12) I'd go with:

        Lloris

        Walker
        Dawson (Kaboul if fit)
        Vertonghen
        BAE

        Sandro
        Dembele

        Gylfi
        Dempsey (playing just behind Ade)
        Bale

        Adebayor

Lennon and Defoe being utilised for 30mins EACH in the second half. Parker, Townsend, Brad, Naughton and Gallas, (Daws if Kaboul starts) if required.

I think Dempsey will offer more to the team and he will allow Gylfi, Bale and Dembele to be more involved in the attack. Once Reading are knackered, then Defoe and Lennon can take exploit any space.

I think Reading will close us down and work very hard. Dempsey's engine and work ethic will help support the midfield, I think he'll help the midfield link with the attack better than Defoe might. Defoe definitely needs time and I'd look to start him at home to QPR. Gylfi is creative and can help to unlock a team better than Lennon can IMO, so I'd start with him.

        Can't wait.
