    Cesc Fabregas - World Class?

Not sure what the definition of world class is, but maybe one definition could be to look around the world and ask yourself which player of a similar mould would you have above the man in your team? Well, there's not many that I would have above Cesc; yep for me he is now world class! He was fantastic again today.

    • As the instigator of the 'cesc v gerrard v keane debate i must say that i've read all your comments and i still think young cesc needs a few more commanding performances in the really big games before he can join Vieira,Keane and Gerrard in the pantheon of world class midfield players.I take the point made about cesc being a different type of midfield player to the others.
I also agree that at 19 cesc is a lot better than Keane and gerrard were at his age.

I want to see how he does against players like Kaka of Milan,Juninho of Lyon....if he outshines players of that calibre then we can say he has arrived on the world stage.

In closing....i agree that cesc will make it to the very top of his profession if he carries on improving.

    • On the way to the CL final, check how many games Gerrard missed. He is often not the central player although his role is often amplified. Alonso is a more influential and consistent performer. However not many people strike the ball as well as Gerrard that is why I would play him at the top of a midfield diamond. The Ljunberg role when Arsenal played in Europe last season- just behind the lone striker.

Gerrard, just like many england big names are not great at holding and distributing. It's not about pace. leave that to the wingers

    • Gerrard CAN do those things you mentioned. I've seen Gerrard play defence-splitting passes through the middle, 40/50 yard crossfield passes, not to mention him being able to control the ball, great first touch, beat players for pace and cross.

Fabregas will be a World-class player, for sure. But I would rather have Gerrard in my team, at the moment. I'm not a Liverpool fan but I recognise what a great player Gerrard is, and he has had to singlehandedly carry the liverpool team on numerous occasions, not just by shooting well.

    • I have read all the messages on this one and in my opinion Cesq IS world class easily...
I make my choice based on how a player is performing at the HIGHEST LEVEL which is Internationnal and Champions League.

From this it's easy to see who is World Class and who is good in one league (in our case the Premiership) ...The results are quite interresting:
      - Gerrard World Class through his perf on C1 level
      - Cesq World Class through the C1 AND the WC
      - Lamps NOT world class...poor performances in WC and average in C1
      - Rooney...Not a goal in the past 2 years in World Football and Champions league ...why is he then considered World Class?

I should probably start a new thread for this but from my point of view - I can't understand why people thinks Rooney is world Class....he simply is not (YET but he can become). He took the world by surprise at the WC2002 because no one knew him but now that everybody knows his game he simply can not do a thing....

    • I agree he is not in the same league as Gerrard but it is only because the gut is in a completely different league. Gerrard is in the striking league(he strikes the ball well) but Cesc is in the playing league(boy, he can play). Loads of things Gerrard cannot do on a football pitch that this guy does. Intelligent play, craft(as noted by silly), vision, possession, sleek sexy passes, killer passes. England is crying out for a player like that. I have always appreciated the fact that Gerrard can strike. But the guy is not my type of attacking midfield player alsthough I like him. Requelme is one of those in Cesc's league. They derive more satisfaction in setting up play. They are not dying to score
The guy is a full international at 19. played in the under 18 and under 21 word cups and was voted best player. Talent!

    • IS world class !won an f.a cup .champions league final, world cup???

    • Not yet, but probably will be!

      • Cesc is a very good player....but not yet world class i would suggest.
In my opinion there has only probably only been three world class central midfield players in the premiership in the last 10 years or so.They are Vieira,Keane and Gerrard...Cesc can join them if he keeps on improving. He has all the weapons in his armoury to become one of the all time great players.I for one will enjoy watching to see if he makes it.
