    Well done, Arsenal

You rode your luck and fought hard. Any team that scores two at Stamford Bridge probably deserves three points.

But, how that first goal was allowed I will never know. All through the first half Kalou and Anelka were being flagged offside by the linesman for some very close decisions. I'm not saying any of them were wrong. But then van Persie is a yard offside and the linesman doesn't see it. Is he Wenger's brother?

After you scored Chelsea were rubbish.

    • Well Geoj, you're right about those two players, they seem to split opinions.

I'm not convinced, but there is something in denilson I like and with time he MAY become good enough, there are certainly signs.

But as of right now he isn't ready in my opinion, too early for him when he has to protect both Fab and the defence.

      That takes serious experience.

Spot on about the knee jerk reactions too, they are so predictable and avoid the reality of the situation.

Their only defence is calling those who question them "fake" fans.

      Laughable, really.

    • were actually lucky not to also have lost against Sunderland?

"56 mins: Walcott gets to the by-line and pulls the ball back for Van Persie to put Arsenal into the lead but wait the goal is disallowed as the assistant referee adjudges that the ball was out of play. Replays indicate that this wasn't the case."

Get with the program fake, Arsenal scored 2 goals against Sunderland's one goal. One of our legitimate goal was disallowed, Arsenal were very unlucky not to have taken all 3 points. Nobody is saying Arsenal will definately win the league as no one knows until the fat lady sings in May 2009. All other teams will trip as the season progresses, lets wait and see how things pan out in May 2009 rather than posting rubbish threads/ stupid analysis.

    • yeah brilliant result and one we'll all take without question. but some interesting points have been raised.

if we are to be really critical we again have to say that denilson and song are big weaknesses. but to be fair to the lad, what on earth is AW doing sticking denilson out on the right wing? he hasn't worked as a ball-winner in the centre, is not overly creative and very poor passer overall, so AW sticks him on the right wing? nothing came from that side and in all honesty, a.cole got down the flank and into the box far too much to make me comfortable throughout the game.

and song. dos he ever really get stuck in? early in that second half lampard cruised by him like he was a fly. only his scuffed left-foot shot saved us going 2-0 down. he is a real weakness and not the answer to denilson in the holding role. chelsea just didn't exploit it today and deco had a shocker.

someone quoted nigel winterburn to show it's not all doom and gloom at arsenal. NW said if arseanl play as they can then they will definitely be top 4. well isn't that the problem? we've always been top 4 and we're not moving forward. we're just getting closer and closer to letting 5th and 6th in with a shot.

great result. chuffed to bits. very happy but let's not get carried away and think it's roses from here.

    • No worries and your right, both players were absolute bargains but with Vidic being slightly better!!

lol now im just being childish!

    • It was just a dig back at you - no problems. At least, Rooney rarely ever said anything that lands him or his team in trouble or becomes an ammunition for the press.

Like I said, I did not expect a United fan to even read or reply to that comment. And we dont always write properly on a forum - afterall, it is informal.

Anyways, Vidic and Rooney are great players. For the money Fergie paid for Vidic, he must be one of the best buys in terms of a defender for a few years. I will include Sagna in that too.

    • It's odd that I didn't think we played particularly well, or badly, but for me didn't deserve to lose or look out of our depth (Denilson and Song aside - two big weaknesses).

I will wait (unlike the knee-jerk reaction mechants around here) until after the Wigan game which we all know will require a different mindset.

Chelsea were a little disappointing overall, and our defence was shaky at times, but good entertainment I thought.

In the first half RVP was anonymous, but in the second he came alive, two great goals, first one a little dodgy but I'll take it!

      • Well i hope you continue to grind out some good results like today more often this season as i think it would be a shame for Arsenal to fall out of the top 4 and the CL.

Just as long as you stay below United!!, plus it keeps us on our toes. It was good to see RVP with 2 great finishes. I rate him extremely highly and if he stays fit i can see him being as good as MVB..

Do you guys think Fergies mind games in midweek helped today atall?

    • We rocked that match! But we all knew that they were gonna start winning again!
      So Happy ! YAY!!!!!

Bring on burnley next! Our youngsters will slaughter them!

      • Robert, you are a sport!

I think the Chelsea fans also deserve credit for not making things too difficult for Gallas. There might have been the odd boo in the first half but I dont think there was much in the second-half.

Gallas was immense for you guys and you could have done with him today - the defence for Chelsea is getting really shaky these days. Bosingwa, is good going forward but too many tricks at times and does not tackle well or good in the air. And Ivanovic might end up becoming another Vidic with his aggression but still way short.

We have missed Ade and Sagna and there contribution today showed what had been missing.

        Clichy had a blinder!

        * Do these top team think they have to play fancy when they play Arsenal? Chelsea try to walk the ball in - they scored from a good cross into the box and yet did not persist with the same method...

I dont think Liverpool will adopt the same tactic - if they win tomorrow, they will start to play even more ultra-defensive to consolidate their lead.

Yes, Liverpool will drop points like they did against Fulham last week but their game against us will go some way in determining the championship credentials and will determine ours if it has not been determined by then.

    • Agreed. It was a horrible decision by the AR. We've been on the wrong side of those referee mistakes for a long time, going back to last season, so it was refreshing to get one. Still, I would have preferred to win on merit alone.

If I remember correctly, when we lost the second league game to Chelsea last season, there was a missed offside that led to a goal against us.

Overall, I thought Mike Dean did well. I personally would have shown a couple more cards, one for each side (including the simulation by Denilson), but otherwise he was competent.

Was our defense good today, or was Chelsea's offense apathetic in the second half?

      • Second-half belonged to Arsenal - but I dont think it was a good game. We got made to look very ordinary in the first-half - we were out-passed and out-thought but Chelsea played without much thrust (passed it around) and did not convert the chance (Lampard) in the first half.

Arsenal battled in the second and were quick to tackles and actually played like the old Chelsea - long ball and aerial superiority.

Why cant we battle like this for almost all games?

Gunnesresque, you should not antagonise Arsenal fans with this win - we have heard it before when we beat Man U... You should save the gloating for the United & Chelsea fans because we know that we are not quite there yet.

If Liverpool win tomorrow, it will still be a big gap.

      • Cookie pants thanks for ur observation our defence today was what made me happy ...for once we won most of the aerial balls with Djourou I can not understand why he doesn't play more often..

Talking about refereeing decisions it is the first I have seen arsenal have had in a very longtime.....after last season I thot there was a conspiracy...

Well if you have to talk about decisions JT shoulda been sent off at the 70th minute.....

We still will not compete for the title I will tell you I would feel happier if we won stoke and hull convincingly than any of the
top four via a narrow margin ...we just need some con fidence..

    • Robert, I think the FA should probe your ball boys, they seem to go AWOL and taking their time to throw the ball into play when Chelsea were ahead BUT suddenly adopted another quicker tactics when you were trailing, how conveniently.

      Great game btw, ;-)
