    The British football question

Looking at your line up today, does it not concern you that not one of your starting 11 was British? (Gibbs and Ramsey on bench)
Are the days gone where you can't produce a Liam Brady type player anymore?

    • Not at all Gregory. Not one of King, Jenas, Huddlestone, Bentley, Bale and Crouch would get anywhere near the Arsenal first team. All of them were shown up to be extremely average on Saturday and if you're happy to have them in your squad so the British quota of players is high then fair play to you.

With players like these you will ALWAYS be in our shadow I'm afraid.

      • Yes I agree we were very average on saturday,in fact very poor
.... not sure Bendtner is better than crouch, but thats a different question I guess , Im not talking about quota's Im talking about the future of the english team considering, the lack on young players making it big in the premier league from the top 4 ....Readie, what you should remember about shadows is they are temporary ...anyhow fair result saturday ..most unlike derby game Ive seen in years ...

    • Arsenal produces plenty of british talent, they simply don't end up playing with us as they usually don't meet our very high standards or don't have the right attitude.

Right now, there is Upson, Sidwell, Cashley Cole, Bentley, O'hara (I think was in the Arsenal accademy before going to the yids) playing in the premiership and I am missing a lot of them....From memory a large portion of the reading team that was in the premiership was made of former Arsenal trainee...

The other people posting here have mentioned the amount of players now in our ranks from Brittain so Arsenal is definitively contributing to the development of local talents...

The thing is that hte media have simply decided to ignore this and concentrate on the first team which is a narrow view of what Arsenal is producing on a larger scale....

As a matter of fact, only 2 years ago a study showed that Arsenal was the second team in the premiership to produce birtish talents just behind Middelsborough at the time... Bottom of the class where Liverpool and Chelsea if I remember well but I might be wrong here.... Again the media have decided to take Man U as the prime example but looking at facts there are no so many Brits coming out of their ranks either...Just one wonder generation and that's it really

      • You bought Upson from Luton, he stayed 6 years and made 35 appearances - took you a long time to decide he didn't meet your "very high standards".

Bentley made just one appearance, so obviously didn't meet your "very high standards" yet was good enough for England.

This topic has been discussed before. You don't really want to compare the British players United has produced and playing in the leagues against those by Arsenal as you are on a hiding to nothing.

    • Jealous are we?

Ramsey, Gibbs, Wilshere, Watt, Gilbert, Walcott (almost forgot him...definatly in Capello's first XI), Randall, Lansbury, etc...

85% of our youth is BRITISH.

    • The question should be "who CAN produce excellent British players?".

Utd obviously have a decent record, but their production line has slowed. West Ham have a good record and then............who?

Arsenal right now have more British talent coming through than anyone......Gibbs, Ramsey, Wilshire, Walcott, Eastmond, Watt, Bartley etc. Hopefully three or four of those names will actually make it big.

    • And exactly how British is Brady?

      Robert

    • Erm....nah mate.

      1. Personally i dont give a damn where they herald from, it would be nice if they were English but if we cant find players of our own nation good enough for the MIGHTY Arsenal, so be it.

      2. Cant produce a Brady type player?? Keep your eyes peeled for a certain little terrier going by the name of Jack Wilshere Greg.

      The future is bright.

The future is RED AND WHITE!

I hope they do come through, just a concern looking at the top 4 investing abroad rather than really develop talent right through to actually playing regular premier league/champions league football, looking at the Liverpool academy is shocking they haven't produced a decent young player since gerrard broke through , surely gonna have effect our national team over the next few years .....hope Im wrong though ....Liverpool had two shocking sendings off today ..lol poor ref ...
