Does anybody care about football anymore?

This goes out to EVERYONE. As a stupid Yank I used to come to these boards for insight, acumen, etc. for a sport that was marginalized here in the states because you guys used to provide information and opinion that was valuable and pithy. I have been on these boards for years now, and now I am loathe to read anything anymore. Are the personal vendettas more important than talking footie? I loved the back and forth banter, but the animosity now is really shyte. Can we get back to the days of chatting footie? For F.ck sake, I was here when fkurent and gitmo were the dildos posting dogshyte messages, but at least they were football related. Nobody needs to agree, but at the very minimum, do your personal bidding on facebook. I haven't seen a sensible post in ages.

Rooney bagged four today. Can he carry United? Are we contenders? Chelsea have lost Essien for a spell. Why cant we chat about this shyte instead of the crybaby personal attacks? We were top for a day. Does that mean anything? Chris, Butch, John, Derek, et alia...let's get back to making this a forum. F-ck all of the other wankers. You guys know footie...stick to it!

    • Haha, you must be a gynaecologist then.

    • The best part is when they fail to supply a decent argument, and tell you that they're 'entitled to their opinion'.

Yeah, an opinion from someone with zero knowledge of the game!

It would be like Fabongrass giving his opinion on the functioning of a vagina - leave it to the professionals!

    • The previous forum had over 200,000 members, you don't get them back just like that.

Today it has just over 3,500, and if you check the top 20 posters for the last 24 hours it comes to 101, a fraction of the previous forum.

It also had ads, especially for guests and non-subscribers, so the revenue was known and collected, and would have been the basis of the sale.

"... but Alexa figures are very unreliable (they are generated purely by a small percentage of users who have the Alexa toolbar installed)."

The Alexa figures are only a small part of the information gathered.

"Websiteoutlook contains a collection of actual number of page-view from other websites. The visitor data is combined with information about number of links that point towards the site, country, Alexa ranking and other data that is available on-line. All this information has been used to make a formula that uses the information that is available on-line to estimate the number of page-views, its worth and possible daily income that the site has."

      .

    • That's a large drop in traffic, but Alexa figures are very unreliable (they are generated purely by a small percentage of users who have the Alexa toolbar installed).

People develop a personal affinity to particular forums (otherwise this place would be empty by now with the crap that goes around!), and so if it had that much traffic back in 2008, it's not that difficult to get it back. You could easily be getting 5k USD a month ad revenue on there so it's worth more than 13k USD. Other Chris should buy it back ;)

    • Great post Scott.

Rooney bagged four today. Can he carry United?
Nope, I don't think so. If I was United fan (eurghhhh), I'd be so frustrated watching United this season. Rooney makes 20/30 quality runs every match, usually diagonally through the channels, and no one either picks his run or utilises the space that he creates by dragging defenders across. The only games where they are scoring goals is when Rooney says "screw this" and stops making the runs, and instead just picks the ball up and drives into the box himself.

      Are we contenders?
Absolutely. I put us 2nd favourites behind Chelsea. The next four games are ridiculously crucial though. We've picked off the smaller teams better than anyone this season. If we can get 8 points from the next four games, I'll be really confident.

Chelsea have lost Essien for a spell.
Yeah, they've coped pretty well so far though. Chelsea have been really strange this season though, no one is really pulling the strings (besides Drogba). It is good for their squad, because they can bring anyone in and it doesn't make any difference to how they play. Whereas we have to change our tactics slightly depending on who our middle 3 and front 3 are.

Why cant we chat about this shyte instead of the crybaby personal attacks?
It's a evolutionary tribal response... oh, I guess this one was rhetorical!

We were top for a day. Does that mean anything?
I don't think so, at this stage. It was nice to have bragging rights for a few days... but I guess you don't have anyone to brag to in the States.

    • Scott, this place has never been any different, and all the time slayer is here it never will be.

When I want to talk football I use a proper football forum, I also help maintain it, you're welcome to join.
