    Is Walcott pants

Is it just be or is Theo Walcott total pants. The guy showed absolutely no application and a terrible touch against Stoke - and although he has been affected by injury... and the assist for Cesc's second goal against Villa aside, has done absolutely nothing for us this season.
Pace is a great thing to have in football, but unfortunately you need an amount of guile and craft too - and the guy simply doesn't have it.
Lots of chatter continues about whether or not he will be going to the World Cup - he's a million miles behind Downing, Milner and Lennon at the moment, and has been a passenger for most of his Arsenal career.
If we could get £8 million for him I'd sell him in a heartbeat.

    • ... and lets face it, Lennon's horrible, and he's a Spud.

I agree with the earlier poster that Walcott has to learn how to graft, and must take a leaf out of Song and Ramsey's book if he is to fulfil his early potential.

If he doesn't start showing form by the end of the season I think he should be sold. It might re-ignite his career, and would also pave the way for a proven player to be bought in.

I remember during the Summer that there was lots of talk about this being the season for Walcott. As it has transpired (and in part because of injuries okay) he has failed to deliver, and in the way that Denilson was a player who came through strongly in 2008-9, its looking like this is the year for Diaby, Song and Ramsay to collect the 'most improved' tag.

    • my grannie ( and anyone elses) is better than lennon

    • True thats about all I can think in his defence, apart from more pace but whats the use when he runs like a race horse in a straight line and doesnt know when and how to cross or when to stop running before he goes out of play.

    • I would argue that he has more potential :P

    • to think john & fenix were arguing with me that walcott is better than lennon. lol

    • That doesn't sound like something thats going to to happen at Francenal (anymore) mate, elsewhere sure, plenty of quality little guys that have made it in the prem.

He's still young enough to come good (and dont get me wrong, I hope he does), and that is what the AKB brigade will keep CHIRPING until he's flogged to Sunderland!

Its inevitable that one day the SHEEP will get one right, then this place will be well and truly f*cked. ;)

    • I agree, that's part of the reason that he lacks confidence so much; whenever he used to miss a chance, even if it wasn't that easy, he would grit his teeth and look really embarrassed and apologetic. From the very little we've seen of him this season, he seems to have stopped that. For example, at home to Bolton, when Arshavin spun his man and broke away, he should have passed to Walcott who was free but didn't, and Walcott shouted at him in anger. No way would he have done that last season. A striker needs that arrogance.

    • Running out of ideas with him Chris.

He doesn't have to be Rooney (please!).

But he does need to grow a pair and man up.

    • My take on Walcott who I really like and think can become a great footballer one day. Sure he is young and has had a few injuries since June and the under 21-s which he should not have gone to.

Apart from injuries where else has Walcott gone wrong?

      - I would much rather win the world cup than something at Arsenal!!! (He thought his spot was guaranteed in the England team)

      - The media overly hyped him into that one and he fell for it!!!

      - The media's darling and cover boy for FIFA 10 what else would a young prospect aspire to, he thought it was all coming for him in time. Forgot the hardwork that he had put in and still needs to put in, and as a result he is now on the benches.

      - The team's new formation is also not winger friendly so maybe that is affecting him a bit as well. But the way I see it, his spot for the England team has gone to Lennon, Young, and Milner. I reckon he is 4th on that list.

Now it's upto walcott to work hard for the club as that's the only way to make it to the National team. Probably taking a leaf from the hardwork Song, Bendtner and Ramsey have put in and learn something from that.

    • "Just because Arsene says 'he's not injury-prone' doesn't mean its true"

True. In the same way that he will deny our fouls after games, to protect our players. But he wasn't asked this question, he chose to tell the interviewer it and he looked like he believed it.

I don't think he's injury-prone, but I think he will pick up a lot of injuries in his career, if you see what I mean - his body is OK but because of his pace he's gonna get a lot of knocks.

"Its nonsense to also suggest that 'nobody says that he's young'"
I am saying he's young, but I was stressing that my main point was his injuries.

"The guy has played, or come on as a sub in 12 of the 25 or so League and CL matches we have played this season"

Doesn't tell the whole story. These are his league appearances:

"I will accept your point that his pass for Cesc's second goal at Villa was perfect"

I don't remember mentioning that at all? I think I mentioned his run and assist against Liverpool in the CL.

"My original post was born out of frustration, and a real sense that there are some who are totally blind to Walcott's weaknesses."

I don't think I'm blind to his weaknesses, as I have criticised many aspects of his game in this thread, but I just think it needs to be kept in perspective. Perhaps I over-reacted to your over-reaction, but seriously, you think we should sell him?
