    What is Wenger's Status Now?

Scott is right to point out the unlevel playing field. However, Martinii is also 100% right about lack of squad depth being a major issue. I would suggest a solution is the sale of the likes of Bendtner, Denilson, Vela, Chamakh and Lansbury in the January/summer, in exchange for a couple of signings in the January transfer window. My main thought is if we can get money for players Wenger doesn't want to play, it makes sense if we can then pep up the first team. The players above would easily raise 30 million. My main fear is what happens if RVP gets injured or burnt out.
I am pro-Wenger when I look at the lack of resources over the last decade. Only Everton seem to spend less. However, things aren't so bad at Arsenal financially anymore so he could squeeze the board for a couple of top players to give us a fighting chance of a trophy.

    • When asked about SAF's 25yr tenure, and the likelyhood of him emulating it, he replied:-

"That would mean another ten years for me. I have this season to get passed first"

Even he knows his time is limited now. If he doesn't improve on last year, then I don't think he has any excuses left.

I want him to succeed, but I can't see him doing it again with us this year.

      • i think people went overboard with arsenals decline.
everyone involved in football seems to be a drama queen.

yes, u are no longer a threat for the title & under wenger it is very hard to see u challenging for the title or CL again unless he has a complete change in strategy.

but in saying that, u arent as bad as people made out & there is no way u will finish outside the top 7. i still think u are favourites for 4th & i expect u to get to the QF of the CL.

in that case, maybe u arent really going paticularly foward or back from last season.

      • I think Wenger is here to stay and that's not a bad thing for Stan K. and those fans who are happy with competing for a top 6 spot. I think Wenger is capable of keeping this Club in the top 5 or 6 for a while to come. If we are lucky we could grab 4th from time to time. It seems that’s all Stan K. wants in addition to his y-o-y profit.

A new manager might not succeed in that. On the other hand we know with Wenger and Stan K in charge the chances that we will win a major trophy are slim to none, and slim just left town.

Personally I would have liked the Russian as owner or at least on the board since he might be more ambitious that the current majority owner and with a little luck he would bring Dein back on board who in turn might bring out the old Wenger we all loved.

      • Wengers status is as it has always been,

        God like.

Then again Wenger could have said that firmly tongue in cheek John.

'If he doesn't improve on last year'

It's highly likely he won't 'improve'

Why does he need to make 'excuses' in your opinion??

Fact is the squad was more settled last season than this. Fact is Arsenal could easily have won trophies last season. Wenger doesn't need to improve much at all.

        He already delivers.

    • I agree we need more depth and selling some of the dros is not a bad idea but we have to by a cover for rvp at the same time an other quality midfield player. Let's hope Wilshire comes back this season.
