    Football thread

Looks like AW may have to settle for what we have in defence as his latest bid to bring in a LB on a short term loan got kicked back by Lyon. I don't see AW coughing up £8m to get him permanently either.

He is confident that Santos & Gibbs will suffice long term, but he's looking for a short term loan player to fill the gap. The only other option being looked at is a complete unknown from the middle east, recommended to him by a mate. He's apparently on trail at the moment.

AA might be put on the transfer list as early as this month. After Monday night's performance it doesn't come as any surprise. It's a shame, but he never seems to have fulfilled his potential here.

A bigger shame is that Ox is considering a loan deal for the rest of the season. After his performance on Monday night I would have liked him to stay.

Meanwhile, a crazy rumour has us along with Liverpool, looking at Ba. He's having a stormin' season, but you know the moment he signs, his knees will blow. It's just sods law.

Funny that PSG are set to lose a bucket load of cash as they had ordered 20,000 shirts with Beckham's name on them, only to see him go to Spurs to train and not sign with them. Mind you it wasn't long before Beckham limped off the training ground injured. A touch of Ledleyitus I suppose. :-)

    • We're a decent team but not a decent squad and until we cut away the deadwood and bring in quality for all positions we will continue to struggle with the other 4.
January ain't a great time to pick up quality unless someones out of contract come summer, but the numbers are small so what do we do...Damned if you do and damned if you don't! I think it might be worth paying a little over the odds now because when the Chelskis and City start to spend in the summer we wont be able to compete.

    • Sorry Lex, I was referring to Full Backs, not CB's.

I think everyone is agreed that Squilacci isn't a great player by any stretch of the imagination.

    • This whole no left-back and no right-back situation is pretty annoying. However we have been waiting so long that Sagna is now back in training, and Wenger may decide to muddle along with Coquelin, Vermaelen or Yennaris at left back. His logic maybe January is pretty low on fixtures (remember last year Carling Cup semis and FA Cup replay), and in February we should welcome back Gibbs and Jenkinson.
Overall our squad looks quite thin, loads of players on loan, however the youngsters need first team game time so I can go with that. If we don't want Vela, Denilson and Bendtner I wish we would just sell them and strengthen, but I suppose we will have to wait for the summer for that so.
I am gonna stop cos I am totally rambling.

      • Coquelin may have equipped himself quite well in a couple of games, but Yannaris only had his first start the other night.

The next few games wont be easy, away to a Swansea team who kept us to a 1-0 at home. I do like their goalie Vorm. He looks very good in most games I've seen him in. Then home to Utd on the 22nd. (and we know what happened last time put out a weak team against Utd)

Don't worry about rambling Andy. You have a way to go to catch up to the nonsense that gets posted here but some other people.
