Arsense - We need to do everything except spend money

Money isn't the problem eh? The thing that annoys Arsenal fans is not just that we're not spending, but that we can see the money coming in without being spent! We see huge sums come in for our top players, sponsorship deals, savings because of the wage structure (and the players it forces us to lose)... but where is it all going? If we're not spending all this money on players, where are are we spending it? On the Denver Nuggets I guess. Gazidis gets huge bonuses, Arsene Wenger 4th highest paid club manager in the world (behind only SAF, Mourinho and new-money Ancelotti) but we can't get decent players? The board are greedy greedy evil 'C-words'. I'd take an Abrahamovic (i.e. Usmanov) over a Silent Stan any day.

When was the last time Arsenal bought a cheap player who was a hit (and din't need 3 to 5 years of grooming)? I don't remember personally. And even if someone else can name me one person, how about the horde of failures (Denilson, Bendtner, Vela, Bischoff, Park, Squillaci, the Almighty Chamakh and Diaby - talented as he is) for each success?

Imagine a team full of 'Santi Cazorlas' (not literally, but figuratively in terms of quality). You know why that sounds good? Because he is quality and that was reflected in his price. The little guy just joined and already he has to do it all himself! That being said, I am more suspicious of our very greedy Board and Silent Stan T.w.a.t.face than I am of Wenger.

    • I don't think it's that AW doesn't spend. It's his willingness to compete when a deal is almost done. Quite a few times we have been told that a deal is almost done, but that somebody higher up wont agree an element of the finances such as their wage demand.

So we end up getting freebies like Chamakh, or cheap players like Squilacci.

It's rare AW comes up with a Cazorla, and that only happened to try and convince RVP to stay because Cesc left last year. Arteta is a good player and I like him, but he was never going to be the player to attract top quality to Arsenal.

I would prefer Wenger to come out and say "I cannot compete with transfers and as such we have to concede that our competition is going to be harder".

Once the Stadium debt is cleared, there will be no excuses. We have been told that "We will be in the best financial shape to compete in the next couple of years".

Until that time comes, I expect nothing more than Arsenal to tread water. Unless something drastic happens, we will not win anything.

Usmanov will not get in. We have to face that reality. Arsene Wenger, Hill-Wood and Kroenke will block any attempt.

Oh and cheap players, that are good players:-

      Carl Jenkinson - £1m
      Keiran Gibbs - Academy Player.
      Jack Wilshere - Academy Player.
      Emmanuel Frimpong - Academy Player.

We still have a couple of gems.

      • Where do you get your 'facts'???????

'I don't think it's that AW doesn't spend. It's his willingness to compete when a deal is almost done. Quite a few times we have been told that a deal is almost done, but that somebody higher up wont agree an element of the finances such as their wage demand.'

Hmmmmm....we're told somebody high up won't agree terms huh??? Only time i recall that being relayed was from Ashley Cole. Who else announced this exactly?????

'So we end up getting freebies like Chamakh, or cheap players like Squilacci.'

Chamakh started wonderfully. Lord knows what has gone awry since. Squillacci was brought as cover as a large number of defenders were injured. Squillaci was 5th in line FFS!!!

'It's rare AW comes up with a Cazorla, and that only happened to try and convince RVP to stay because Cesc left last year. Arteta is a good player and I like him, but he was never going to be the player to attract top quality to Arsenal.'

        What a strange statement!!!

Wenger has brought in diamond after diamond!!! Kosc, Verm, Sczezny (or however it's spelt!), Jenkinson,Sagna,Chamberlain etc etc...

AND how do you know Carzorla was ONLY bought to try and convince VP to stay?????? You're making it up as you go along!!!!

' I would prefer Wenger to come out and say "I cannot compete with transfers and as such we have to concede that our competition is going to be harder". '

I could have sworn that Wenger has stated that he cannot compete with the likes of City. Has he not???

'Usmanov will not get in. We have to face that reality. Arsene Wenger, Hill-Wood and Kroenke will block any attempt.'

Whose to say Wenger would 'block any attempt'!?!?!?!?!

Where did you get that little pearl from???????

'Unless something drastic happens, we will not win anything.'

        Rubbish.

The ONLY 'drastic' thing that needs to happen is for the eam to gain confidence and to gel.

'We still have a couple of gems'

We have a whole squad full IMO.

(Santos apart. Unless something 'drastic' happens with his form granted)
