At the end of the day the only person to blame for this debacle is the forth official.
1) He had no business under current rules to interfer during the match.
2) There was no way he could of seen the incident,(without the assistance of a monitor), from his viewing position.
3) I understand he comes from an Italian family! so what was he doing there as an oficial?
Bobsau - 2000, I have never heard such a load of old rubbish in my life. The officials are there to SEE things and to advise the Ref. when he misses anything, which is quite possible with 22 players on the pitch. The 4th official did exactly that!!! I am a Zidane fan, but, as Martin O Neill pointed out on the night, whatever Materazzi said to Zidane, was no more than he had heard in every other match. Your attitude is one which is all too prevalent in football today, and which has caused myself and other true football fans, who love the game, played at the highest level, to desert it and find other more wholesome sports. In my opinion, I should like to see both Zidane and Figo (for his obvious headbutt - common assault?), both prosecuted.
