It seems to me that the points system should be changed which would be beneficial to all. A number of the smaller teams finish consistently but fail to win points so why not change the system to give points from first to last place for both manufacturers prize and drivers championship.
The smaller teams have probaly had a harder race and deserve recognition.
say 25 points for first
23 for 2nd
21 for 3rd
then 18 , 17 etc
The criteria being you have to finish, thus teams such as Spyker who finished the Spanish grand prix 2007 would be rewarded for finishing, and by default may then pick up more sponsorship .
I think that those who score points in the first half of the season get transport funding for the second half - or at least it was. The points system was changed to reward consistency. It's only an issue because Ferrari are moaning because they haven't demonstrated consistency. Expect more if McLaren hold them off. Can't wait for BMW to make the jump completely across. Then Luca can really whine - "the white cars hurt my drivers eyes".
