    Another Boring Procession

Well, the Turkish Grand Prix was, wasn't it? What were the highlights... a burst tyre?

    • everyone in the same cars and tyres and let them race works yes

but one of the key ingridents in formula 1 has always been u design and build your own car, until the buy a chassis rules were introduced for next year and beyond

this is also one of the reasons car manufacturers love the sport as it allows them to develop cutting edge technology, essentially its one big pr and research and development program which we all eventually benefit from not only in our cars but in other daily items we use

if f1 standardises cars and tyres and engines then it wont be f1 anymore

    • "everyone in same car same tyres and let them race"
      AMEN!!!!

    • I dont see how f1 is so popular still. I watch this and i think wow boring and turn it right off.

It should turn into everyone in same car same tyres and let them race.

      Cause its so #$%$

    • not many without a lapse in concentration causing a locked wheel or missing a gear shift etc

in some defence though where have the better races been this year and the few years before? at the classic tracks such as silverstone

all is not lost in formula one, it just needs to take a few steps back to go forward again

it tickled me to see kubica complain about the loss of traction control, does he fear not having a system under his bum to help him out? and yes i do kow traction control doesnt save the driver every time

    • No traction control next year, with some races in wet could be a wicked combination. I'd like to see a lot of these aerodynamic gismos go. F1 is'nt a race between manufactorers and their cars anymore. It's all about who has the best aerodynamic engineers.

Let's get back to the barebone racing that took place 20-30 years ago. And hey, why not some of the old tracks too. I watched a video of Senna doing a lap of Monaco, and it was awsome.

Take a look how rough it could be. And tell me how many racing drivers nowadays could do 78 laps in these conditions.

    • my turkish grand prix? watched the start, and then put the tv on loud and went and skimmed the kitchen ceiling

there was a time when i cudnt miss a race, it just didnt happen, these days its just too predicatable

only thing i got wrong was alonso dropped two places not one

      • GT, in deep a boring race, although it is worst to comment on the race cause it was quite interesting, at least the start:

During the start the Ferrari showed a change in their starting power, a boost I should say. It was already well known that the BMWs have that boost and in fact they start low in gasoline to make an impressive start (sponsors and so), however they need to repost quite fast lossing ground, an strategy BMW has been using the whole season, which is great because Renault that is the fourth out there still can not get too close to them so BMW strategy is quite intelligent, but Fernando Alonso paid for it last race.

Now, coming back to the start of the race:

The two Ferrari and BMW started from the clean side of the track, the two McLaren from the dirty part, the two McLaren do not have a good starting power and the Ferrari did not before Turkey, now they do so in summary the combination of starting on the dirty side and with less starting power make that Lewis Hamilton get one position down and Fernando two. It was reasonable to think that Lewis will lose a place but not that Alonso will lose two!.

Alonso got what he deserved IMHO, a bit of justice and finished 3rd, not because he battle the third place but because of the puncture of Lewis, well, some people say bad luck for Lewis, I say this is F1, those things happen and in fact I think that Lewis was very lucky, if he was in the curve 8 he will be out of points and Alonso just got 2 points closer, which by the way, in the case that the FIA did not punished Alonso which the "suppose" rule he broke Alonso will be as the leader today.

But, What is making boring the F1?

Simple, the aerodynamic of the F1 cars is what is making this sport a boring violin concert. The new aerodynamic is such that the hot air that produce the car in front of you make it quite difficult to advance, it takes a lot of effort to do it and the risk is high, once the driver try to advance and get hit by the hot air of the other car it losses the momentum and power, since the aerodynamic factors plays against him in this case. Such thing does not happen in G2, cause the aerodynamic is not that advance, as a matter of fact I should say that at the moment I enjoy more watching at G2 than F1, gush, I never thought I would say that but it is true.

Solution, at the moment none I am aware of, any company that decides to go for less aerodynamic will loose speed and it will be doom. So they need to come with an aerodynamic magic formula that will give them:

1.- An edge against windy conditions, which Ferrari at the moment have better than any other one, McLaren is working on that
2.- An edge over the hot air from the car in front whilst trying to advance (that will be a quite difficult if not impossible one)
3.- The two above without loosing speed whilst not having no one in front or trying to advance a car...

Monza is going to be a lovely race, the circuit has been a bit modified and all teams come with new things, hopefully will even rain as it did today and perhaps it will tomorrow, thus, we will have tons of fun.

As far of predictions for Monza, I will say, I have no idea, besides Ferrari and McLaren will be most probably in the Podium, I can just say that if it rains my money is on Alonso, if it does not, I wouldn't bet, honestly it will depend on the qualification and it will be boring,..but... I will sit quite and enjoy every minute of the boring lovely race, I just can't avoid it, a fan for too many years.

    • Sorry i didnt think it was completely uneventful,
we finally saw other teams perform well (Renault, Toyota), i saw heidfeld and rosberg do very good laps and a good GP (i think that if these guys were driving a McLaren they would do score much more points), we saw Alonso being stuck in 5th not being able to gain a 1/10th on anyone in front of him even with a better car than a BMW, we saw that hamilton can also have a very bad race not scoring much points, we saw that massa was able to keep kimi out of the way with a similar car (different setup of course)...Kimi was never really able to catch up even in traffic... We saw that nothing is sure for this year's driver championship or even constructor's trophy...
And the Ferraris had over 20 seconds on Alonso....so maybe it wasnt Senna/Prost/Mansell/Hill/... but get over it, it was a good race.

      • Hmmm... not sure if I need to get over watching something which was about as exciting as watching paint dry. What I look for in spectator motor sport is a direct wheel-to-wheel challenge where the winner may well be in doubt right up up to the last corner... daring manoeuvres... something which sets my pulse racing... not a race which is resolved in the first corner or needs the cars to be pulled off the road to make ovetaking chances. F1 needs to have control tyres, no pitstops and races half as long. The cars need to be made robust enough to take a few creative moves. It all needs to change...

    • What's more boring is the continual "procession" of defensive comments made by Ron Dennis to cover Hamilton's back.

Hamilton clearly seeks the publicity - he must take and deal with the rough as well as the smooth as part of the package.
Who cares anyway if his off track activities with his female friends are platonic or not!

It will only be a matter of time before he leaves UK. The tax regimes in Monco and Switzerland make this a more lucrative financial option for "big bucks "earners.
