    Collective performance of the squad

Lads I dont think alarm bells should be ringing over the defeat but this is a good time to the squads performance.

In my opinion the style of football we are playing is very very individual based and not on a collective performance of the team.

Only when we defend we play as a team but as soon as we have the ball there is no movement in the central midfield, its always pretty much passing the ball to the wingers an wait for them to do something. we are not playing smart football.

I think last nite our midfield was lost, i saw in so many occasion Plesis and Lucas just stood still like dead wood, no movement at all.

    Solution:
    1. Promote a better style of play
    2. Bring back Voronin, he moves well and gets behind defenders as well plays a good link up player, Voro and Torres last nite would hav been a better option then Ngog

    • Vorinin??...we need goals...not just runs and booting the ball away...another Rafa bust.....

should have let Keane and Torres start....they can start rebuilding chemistry....take them off then sub on Kuyt, Ngog, or Benayoun (moving Babel up) and gone to a 4-5-1 to wrap up the win....

    • tURKEY SLAP ...Ive been saying this for ages ...its due to Benitez DULL DEFENSIVE STRATEGY ...as a result we have no movement or verylittle movement OFF the ball nobody running into space , we should have menrunning into space to give the manin possession options to employ . Instead we get the ball pushed wide and then back and then wide and perhaps a couple meaningless interchanges back and forth betwee twodefenders out wide and then we arepressured into hefting the ball high up;the line or high down the middle and pssession is ost cheaply.
I doNOT see any change coming till we CHANGE the manager .

      • I have said this ages ago but was bombarded by our fellow fans saying that I should have more faith with Rafa, just few games in the season, I am an 1diot, or questioning me whether I am a true fans and all those bull$hit!!
I have supported Rafa for 4 seasons, hoping that he will change his style but he didn't. Mind you, I asked for him to be axed when we are winning games...MARK MY WORD AGAIN! We are not going to win the league with Rafa in charge!

      • Yes I remember Colin what you said before, about our style of play..

I dont know why Rafa dont promote play like that. Movement of the ball is very important to keep posession and attack through the back. Thats probably why we dont score that many goals,

AND because we dont play as a team its always Gerro and Torres the two highest scorers at the end of the season.

      • Colin,

We have only lost 2 games all season:
Spurs Twice: In the League it was a sickner as we should have had it wrapped up inside 20mins

        and

in the league cup we had a mish mash team as mentioned in my previous post against a near full strength team away from home.

You forget we have missed our best foward for the a great deal of the season so far.

While not getting carried away, we have had a very postive start to the season and we can and should get better.

I dont get all the Liverpool fans who are knocking us at the moment. When was the last time we were in the position we are in now in the middle of Nov were people had not already written off us as title challengers.

And people harping back to the 60,70 and 80's, Yes we had some of the most gifted managers and players but it was at least 20 years ago.

Lets live in the here and now, which means we are matching Chelsea stride for stride, What more do you want?

    • I think everyone bar Babel had a pretty shocking game TBH. Spurs just pressured us off the park like our first team has in the past.

Our whole back line was shocking, our centre midfield asserted no authority at all, El Zhar seems more suited to an impact sub role, Torres was clearly out of touch and N'gog was just too inexperienced.

Luckily this was our second string (pretty much ex Torres, Dossena and Babel) and we shouldn't be too worried by the defeat at the hands of a clearly fired up Spurs side.

      Harry Redknapp for England anyone?

      • i think what the gunners do what no other big club does:

When playing the league cup, it plays its whole reserve team, they guys are playing week in week out together in the reserve ecept for 1 or 2 players

The you look at Liverpool: its a bits and pieces team, couple of first teamers, Couple of First team subs and reserves.

How can it be expected that a mish mash of players who very really play competive football together be expected to put a good performance together.

Showed in last nights game at the players where playing individually rather than a team hence the poor performance.
