Liverpool Message Board
Only one month or so on, King Kenny is showing all positive moves much more than Roy did in 4 months. Some of them may not be as fruitful, trying on Poulson, keeping Torres fire up, etc.
Roy may be able to take part of the merits for the improving performance of Meireles in the midfield. It is only one of the most promising aspects of the revival of the club.
In the last 3 years, the team has been too dependent on Torres and Gerrard. Rafa and Roy did not do much to rectify the situation, but tried to build the team around these two. Perhaps the suspension of Gerrard was a blessing in disguise to have helped Meireles shining in the midfield. However, KK has voiced out to put the focus sharing on the four players.
In the format structure, KK started with a 4-4-2 in his first match against United. Then he has various attempts, with the latest of 6 defenders, which gave Gerrard, Meireles and Kuyt plenty of support in attacking. Who will know playing six defenders is an attacking format?
Seeing these attempts from KK, I have the feeling that he is trying to keep the job for a few more years. Should we be able to go back up the ladder, at least to be qualify for Europa again next year, he should stay.
But Hong mate. Thats the same at any club now adays. If the results are great there will be no problems at all with KK.
But like any managers job things can change in a heartbeat. But still can't see him not getting it.
Think we get a bit hung up sometimes thinking about the manager being the one doing everything. At the end of the day Kenny will be the one held responsible for every player brought in during his watch, however there is a whole scouting department, not to mention DC that should be helping him out. If not, I want Damian's job. Get to watch football all the time, drive a nice car, and pick up a decent cheque every week!
But bottom line is the owners are no fools. They may have been nervous putting Kenny in charge to begin with, but they will be foolish to remove him against the wishes of a majority of the fans. So long as we're making progress, and the fans still want KK, then he'll have the job as long as he wants it.
