    Central defender

All of our attention seems to be around the midfield area. We have more players in this position then any other so when we are linked to another it makes me wonder whats going on. Yes, we need wingers but surely our attention should be going out for a young, speedy centre back. I doubt Carras legs can hold out for another full season and as our rivals are signing young, quick forwards, we don't want him to be lagging half a yard behind. Skrtel seems too clumsy and Agger spends most of his time on the treatment table. Is there anyone out there who is in his early twenties that can fit the bill and should be signed as soon as?
Its great having an attacking line up for once as we've been too defence since Houllier but if we are weak at the back then we will be just like the Geordies under Keegan who had the philosophy of you score 3, we'll score 4.

    • Im not so sure we are that hard up in central defence but I think we could do with a single centre back addition. There is certainly room for a quality addition but I wouldnt prioritise the position and dont think £20m on Cahil is the answer.

Carragher - Obviously the years are drifting by but when he came back from injury last season, he was fantastic. Even at 33 this guy is still playing thurs - sun - thurs - mon etc. No Europa league this year and Carra will be good as gold.

Skrtel - I was getting worried he wasnt Liverpool quality after a steady decline since 09. Kennys return and even under Woy to some extent he has put those doubters to bed. A bit of a thug but on paper is a perfect blend to Agger.

Agger - If only Dags can put his injuries to bed and have another consistent run in the side. Has the composure of a midfielder with the left peg of a ginger norweigan. Could be the one of the best in the world but has more of a Ledley King role!

Kelly - I know hes been playing right back but I believe it to just be a blooding in process. Im sure he is Carras heir. Tall, fast and skillfull, the transition to premier league centre half should be intriguing.

Kyriagkos - Looks a jolly fella, a monster in the air and tries his best. Just a shame is his best is clumsy fouls in the penalty area. End of the show for a cult classic!

Ayala - Has had a couple of loan spells and might take one more this year. I would much rather see this guy take Sotos place on the bench.

Wilson - I only remember seeing him play left back for us in the 1st team but he is still worth a chance as a squaddie.

      • I agree that we a pretty well stocked CB wise, however I would much prefer Kelly at RB as i think he has both the pace and positional sense to do well there. I've been told by a friend who is working for Hull FC(I know the dreaded insider knowledge bs) that they want to take Ayala on loan again this season, which is something I'd support, give him another season to develop then bring him back and see what he has got. I don't think we need anyone, but if someone in the mould of Jan Vertonghen at Ajax were to become available(he has Agger's calm and technique, but is a hard man aswell) I would certainly advocate bringing him in
