    Oh Xabi, Where Art Thou?

Let's face it, we have been in decline ever since Xabi Alonso was transferred.

Talent lost: Alonso, Mascherano, Arbeloa, Torres, Meireles, Benayoun...

Since Xabi left these have been the main additions, and I will rate them on a scale from -10 to +10, depending if they contributed or not to the team, and taking into account what we paid for them.

Maxi Rodriguez, 0, sporadic flashes of quality.
Joe Cole, -9, crap, enough said.
Carrol, -7, crap. The guy is slow, clumsy, lacks timing... and doesn't score goals!
Adam, -2, under performing, has yet to shine
Downing, -5, £20m? Also under performing, unable to take defenses apart, or attack the wings with authority.
Jose Enrique, +5, one of the better additions to the squad. Many times he does Downing's job, perhaps a little better.
Henderson, -6 crap. £16M? He doesn't look any better than Shelvey... more crap. Lacks confidence and intelligence.
Aquilani, 0, flashes of quality, inconsistent, never delivered the goods, therefore he is on loan in Italy playing for Milan.
Johnson, +4, positive addition, right now I rate him slightly below Jose Enrique.
Suarez +9, the only world class contribution since Xabi, but the way things are going he could suffer from Torres' syndrome.

And then we have these youth players trying to make it:
Flannagan, -8, the guy can't defend, he can't even pass the ball to an open team mate!
    Shelvey, -2, still hasn't shown
    Spearing, +1, tries hard.
Kelly, -2, is he afraid of the ball? When we attack he hides in places where he can't get the ball.

And now for the other guys:
    Agger, -4, a liability.
Aurelio, -4... too many injuries, too little to contribute
Gerrard, 0, long periods of injury, therefore couldn't contribute to the team. Not living up to expectations due to his lack of form.
Lucas, 0, fighter, but lacks quality.
    Kuyt, +1, consistent, but insufficient.
    Bellamy, -2, beyond his prime
    Skrtel, +2
Carragher, +2, yes, he is 33 and age shows, but he is still a solid center back.
Reina, +8, one of top 3 keepers in the world, delivers the ball better than Casillas.

Dalglish, -2, unable to beat weaker teams, lost our top 4 position in the table, we are not playing in Europe...

Owners, -4... missed on David Silva, even though he would've loved to join Liverpool. Lost Fernando Torres because they didn't improve the team. Got us Henderson and Carrol instead.

    • Silva never wanted to go to Liverpool why would he ?
      Reasons
      No money
      Mediocre team
      Bad manager

    • I said it back in October, many here laughed at me...

    • Excellent post!

      • Since this post originated with Xabi, I never bothered to read it until just now, and upon doing so I almost passed out from a combination of shock and laughter..

So, if Xabi was such world class (which he is), then what about the players still in the squad who played along side him in his tenure? Agger, Skrtel, Lucas, Kuyt all become instant liabilities now because he's gone? And, the team is going in complete reverse?

Suarez aside, Enrique, Adam, and the prospects in Henderson and Coates aren't good buys for now and the future? Bellamy, not sure why we added him? Last time I checked he scored last week, hit woodwork @ Stoke, seems to be 1st choice sub in many instances and perhaps aside from Suarez, the quickest and most able to take on a defender and create a chance or goal on his own... All that and free! Terrible.

Stupidest post I've read in a very long time. Not sure the most idiotic Utd or Everton fan could conjure up something like this on their best day

    • go on then tell us are you gillette or hicks?
I really should know better having put up with some right wind up merchants on here.
So yes I'll bite, then again you may just be a genuine, honest to god, unfortunate KNOBHEAD,WHO KNOWS LESS THAN ZERO ABOUT FOOTBALL!
Our main problem this year is we are not taking a good enough percentage of our chances.
PS just because Silva has a few Beatles albums, doesn't mean we were nailed on to get him, you tophat!
Compared to woys weign, we are creating shitloads of chances, just not taking them.
Defensively if you look at the table only man city and newcastle have conceded less.
Now to your opinions of the players,Kelly and Flanaghan already regulars in the 21s.
Carroll needs game time and confidence, same with Henderson.Lucas? top of the opta stats again for most tackles.
I could go on but frankly I shouldn't have started, I'm tired and your obviously insane. If I wanted to talk to people like you I'd be there giving you your meds.
Man City have made a good start, piss off and join them.

    • Just for a bit of fun lets re-look at your ratings for those who played last night, and ask if we think your rating fits the performance?

Maxi Rodriguez, 0, sporadic flashes of quality..- actually fair enough not sure he added much last night

Carroll, -7, crap. The guy is slow, clumsy, lacks timing... and doesn't score goals! – Yes your right he was definitely a negative last night, kept getting in Suarez’s way all night. More realistically I’d give him a +4 or +5. decent but still room for improvement

Henderson, -6 crap. £16M? He doesn't look any better than Shelvey... more crap. Lacks confidence and intelligence. – Again you’re a genius, he was crap last night, those breaks he set up are terrible, and forget about the awful touch to create the winner, we can’t have that? More realistic rating I’d give +7

Suarez +9, the only world class contribution since Xabi, but the way things are going he could suffer from Torres' syndrome. – No sign or Torres syndrome that I could see, so I’ll keep him a +9

Spearing, +1, tries hard.- Little engine that could huh. Clean tidy against a physical side. Could do better with some of his passes but still earns a +5 in my book.

Kelly, -2, is he afraid of the ball? When we attack he hides in places where he can't get the ball. – Your right, we can’t have a full back that can both get forward to deliver a good cross, and get back and defend well! Felt sorry for him a bit however having to chase down a number of wayward passes that came his way, but still got a +6 from me.

Agger, -4, a liability. – Yes terrible, even out of position he just hurts more than he helps! But being realistic as I have to say until Bellamy came on he was our main threat down the left, so I’d give the lad a healthy +7 myself.

Lucas, 0, fighter, but lacks quality. – Yes our highest percentage passers last term has no quality! Mind you, seemed to do okay last night, I think I’ll give him a +6

Bellamy, -2, beyond his prime – Got to agree, nothing left in his tank and legs well past their prime! Mind, it did seem we got a lot more pace down the left side when he replaced Maxi, and still had a credible threat from cut inside also. I’d give him a decent +5 myself

Skrtel, +2 – Got to agree its hard to put a little one liner for this lad. But I’ll try, how about dependable? +6 from me.

Carragher, +2, yes, he is 33 and age shows, but he is still a solid center back. – Solid only get a 2? Well he only played half the match so not sure what to give him, but as I’ve agreed with you once, just to be a contrarian I’ll go with a +3

Reina, +8, one of top 3 keepers in the world, delivers the ball better than Casillas. – Really not tested last night, unless we count his need to fight off the argy bargy of the Stoke big boys at set plays. But while I hate ending on a negative I actually think his distribution was mediocre at best last night, so have to given normally dependable Pepe only a +4 for the match.

Okay, so from the 11 players you rated, you have them at an average of +.08, while mine come out to an average of +5.17. Got to ask, do you think Stoke are really that bad at home that a side who is barely rated in the positive by you can beat them, or maybe last night was just a one of? Of course we did not rate everyone who played, so maybe Coates is so good he carried the rest of the lads!

    • Out of bounds means when he is going off the pitch to make KK a drink. He is totally right though lads. The amount of times he ran away from the ball last night i just couldn't believe it.

I'd get rid of all of them they are total crap...Well said lfc lol.

    • Kelly is a star in the making and last night he was all over the park in the game I watched making some excellent tackles as well as offering himself in attack. Henderson and Spearing too, although they continue to misspass the ball too often. Full marks to those three youngsters for effort and application - give them time please!
Lucas too was excellent and remember how many of us - me included - used to slate him on here!

    • "Kelly, -2, is he afraid of the ball? When we attack he hides in places where he can't get the ball"

      Great post. Pure genius.

    • lol, I love this one, really gave me a good laugh. But just a word to the wise if you are on a wind up its actually better if you base your post in the realm of possibility or try to string it along before lowering the hammer.

You know if you add up your player’s scores and average them out our average player rates minus 1.2 by your reckoning. That I assume means they actually go out on the pitch and do more harm than good, so unless we play teams of complete incompetence it would be impossible for us to actually win anything. I mean if players do more harm than good, surely they actually are shooting regularly into our own goal and actually helping the opposition. (I'm getting an image of a very non politically correct 1970s comedy where players are running around hitting themselves in the head not knowing what they should be doing).

Its all very funny, good job

Mind you, if you really are a true supporter, I suggest ringing a friend very, very soon as with such a negative outlook on our future you’re liable to be looking for a high ledge, or searching for straight razors, so be very careful.

    • Oh my word this isn't worth replying to.

This right here shows what a load of tosh it is:

"Owners, -4... missed on David Silva, even though he would've loved to join Liverpool. Lost Fernando Torres because they didn't improve the team. Got us Henderson and Carrol instead."

The current owners weren't even in charge when City bought Silva!
