    Anzhi in reflection

First of all, have to just say congratulations to the boys and the gaffer, that was a very decent performance. I felt a little edgy about this game, knowing we needed to win and how strong Anzhi were. They had gone 21 matches unbeaten before tonight including beating a Moscow team starring Kerzakov and Hulk. We really pressed them when off the ball forcing mistakes and caused a lot of problems. Obviously we came under a bit of pressure in the late stages as Anzhi chased the single goal defecit but thats twice on the spin we have closed games out well.

The oh so awful defending looks to be ironed out, 300 mins without conceding may I add! There were performances from all over the park, firstly we have to start with Downing, what a hit son, what a hit! Ironic that playing at left back is where he came up with the strike on his weak foot really. Hopefully he can kick on from here, it must be a bit of a burden lifted off his back. Assaidi was absolutely brilliant, he looks fantastic in the 1vs1's and is so unselfish, I think he could be a revelation, lets get him out in the league!

Suarez was tormentor in chief once again but possibly seemed more obsessed with making defenders look stupid with multiple nutmegs then laying the ball off. He did create chances though, not all jsut about himself. Jonjo looked a threat but should have at least put one of the chances away. Raheem was awesome when he came on, he has become a star player over night seemingly. Wisdom looked a beast last night, quick, strong, skillful but most importantly, he looks intelligent and aware, its like Jamie Carragher is controlling him with a joypad! Glen J was amazing, causing no end of problems from left back, hes having a good season so far, shame he didnt get the goal he deserved and hopefully is fine for Sunday.

Agger and Skrtel looked at their best, Agger playing like Jan Molby when we are up the pitch and Skrtel just brusing and destroying everything. Brad Jones, not much more needs to be said, he has deputised immensely, 2 clean sheets and can even play out of the back.

Gerrard and Sahin were ok too :) Lets not pretend we will keep winning every week but the progress is obvious to see, long road ahead but there is definitely light at the end of it.
