Nobody in that United defence or midfield can run so I think pace is the answer. RVP and Chich score every chance they get so this should be an excellent game for the neutral. Really is a shame Enrique is out.
Subs: Jones, Carragher, Shelvey, Henderson, Sturridge, Suso, Coates
It sort of picks itself really. The only change I think might be possible would be if Sturridge started instead of Downing. I doubt that will be the side, but I'd not be surprised if we don't see S,S,S across the front line at some point.

I'd agree with that Dave, though coming from me, some may find it surprising, but not only recently has he been great, but I thought by a landslide, Downing was our best player in that cup match.. The amount of times he ended up with the ball and going forward on counters at pace, eyes on goal or good passes was very impressive.. Almost like this guy I heard of named Steward Downing who played for Aston Villa in 2010-11..
We need our best, most experienced 11 out there, and obviously that will almost certainly still include Wisdom and Sterling, but both are as up to the task as can be for their age, or vs their competition..
I suppose we could come out very aggressive, and have Sturridge through the middle, with Suarez dropping off and floating into space, which is what he does anyways, or how Rodgers described him as his "false 9"..
Trepidation there is, Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling, Downing and Gerrard are our very best we have, and leave nothing of note off the bench, so I'd probably not go that route just yet, personally, but expect it at some point..
I think the biggest question will be if both Allen and Lucas start, which means Henderson gets dropped, and again much like Downing, he's been very good of late, and his work rate/stamina/pace really charge up the midfield because those 2 look tired and still catching up to speed, which puts more on Stevie.. Alot to consider..
I'd just guess - Reina, Wisdom, Skrtel, Agger, Glen. Allen, Lucas, Gerrard, Downing, Suarez, Sterling..
Jones, Carra, Sturridge, Henderson, Shelvey, Suso, Robinson
Very true and fair points Hobs. I'm glad I'm not the manager.
West Brom lost yesterday so we have an opportunity to gain a place in the table. A win puts us equal with Arsenal (they have 2 games in hand though) and within 3-4 of Everton.
bring it on!
My thinking was that possesion and calm away at OT is important so thats why I was thinking Allen's boringly simple passing might just help to ease us in. Despite Lucas' form not being amazing, I dont think it is a suprise that Gerrard has started scoring more goals and generally played better since his return to the side. I like Jonjo and could see a strong case for him playing, he would blast past Carrick, Scholes etc.
Personally, I thought Sturridge looked dangerous but unfit which is perfectly acceptable considering how long he has been injured, I think him being a supersub makes most sense. You certainly wouldnt want to be 1 or 2 nil down and take him off to bring Downing or Suso on to chase the match. I think Jonjo would make for a strong impact sub against tired old legs at United, maybe bring them on as a pair with 20-30 mins to go.
