    Gazumped by Southampton again.

I don't know if anyone has done the sums, but it seems to me that your assumption that if they hang on long enough they'll make a profit might be a little wide of the mark.

How much is the club worth on the open market right now?
How much of their own money did FSG put in to clear our debt and buy the club?
How much have they spent on transfers and wages so far with every window so far under their ownership having a positive net spend?
How much has the club actually generated since they've been in charge with no champions league TV dosh?

I'm not sure what that adds up to, and maybe someone can run the numbers, but it seems on first blush that they might have to wait a long time before they see any real return.

    • I can put it in black and white but the wage bills are always difficult to put together

      Since FSG ownership

      Players in:
      Luis Suarez £22.8m
      Andy Carroll £35m
      Jordan Henderson £16.5m
      Charlie Adam £6.75m
      Doni £0m
      Stewart Downing £20m
      Jose Enrique £8m
      Sebastian Coates £7.6m
      Craig Bellamy £0m
      Fabio Borini £10.5m
      Joe Allen £15m
      Ousamma Assaidi £2.5m
      Samid Yesil £1m
      Daniel Sturridge £12m

      Total in £157.65m

      Players out:
      Fernando Torres £50m
      Charles Itandje £0m
      Ryan Babel £5.8m
      Paul Koncheskey £250k
      Milan Jovanovic £0m
      Nabil El Zhar £0m
      Soto Kyriagkos £0m
      Emiliano Insua £0m
      Christian Poulsen £0m
      David Ngog £4m
      Phillip Degen £0m
      Raul Meireles £12m
      Fabio Aurelio £0m
Dirk Kuyt £1m (I know! Was his clause if not getting first team football)
      Maxi Rodriguez £0m
      Alberto Aquilani £6m
      Craig Bellamy £0m
      Charlie Adam £4m
      Joe Cole -£3m!

      Total out £80.05m

      Total FSG players spend £77.6m

That is a fair few quid for 2 years of ownership. There is lots of factors to take into account though such as the reduction in wage bill, reduction in squad age, youth players in and out plus promoted to first team, players currently out on loan who will be sold this summer but either way, it is pretty clear that an average of £40m a year on players is a lot and probably about where we need to be.

If you also account for the likeliness of us bringing at least one more player in this window it looks pretty healthy. Maybe some fans need to be a bit more realistic.

      • Look at those players out and the figures against them. The club has bought some real dead wood over the last few years. We've had to give them away!!!

And people still think we can win the PL while carrying that burden!

If the wages and every other cost could be added to tha I think it would scare most of us. As an example wasn't Jovanovic on something like £100 - £120k a week!!!
