    Final nail in Reina's coffin?

Thanks Pepe and adios for me. Time for a better keeper.

Can only hope we have our eyes on someone for the summer having lost out to Stoke and it would seem "Them" this window in the goalkeeping dept.

    • I know there's another Reina thread, and seems most have seen enough after yesterday's incomprehensible, error.. But to then have him go out and say this (which I and many will agree, isn't so untrue) publically, after costing us the game, and then more or less praising himself by pointing out only 3 games as his fault, really is the final nail in the coffin for me.

My money says, if he'd not made that ridiculous mistake, he would have said nothing today after having beaten the champs and moving 2 more pts closer to the top 4.

To say he's only had 3 bad games, is absurd and really a blind and insulting comment. It's been almost 3 bad seasons now, and while he had been better of late, and did well vs Arsenal, I don't have him anywhere near the top 5 in the prem, so he can shut up and go wherever for me. Can only imagine Barca may re-consider after seeing that debalce yesterday.. Ronaldo, Ozil, Falcao etc., score those types of goals for fun..

Again, I think he's fair in the finances and current overall squad, but when questioning the "ability" to compete, he should look in the mirror because that's an insult to other players heart and integrity, which cannot be questioned after yesterday or the past 2 diffuclt away matches..

      • Got to disagree with you here Jason. While I nor anyone can defend the rush of blood to the head that caused him to think he could get to the ball yesterday, but not sure I can really fault much else he said in that article. On the squad and finances I think we agree we're all on the same page, so the question is how many poor outings has Reina had this season (or over the past couple seasons) vs, what Pepe thinks is acceptable.

Yes he's not been at his best, but do we really expect a keeper to be perfect? Do we really think Begovic, or Vorn, or anyone else will really make our squad better? Personally I question that, as the grass always being greener on the other side of the fence.

For me Riena has not been at his best, and the why is the question we should be asking. Has his head been turned by talk of Barca? Or maybe like other players the turmoil at the club has impacted him as it has other players who've also dipped in form over the last few seasons. Has the lack of regular games due to injury unsettled him (remember Riena hardly ever missed games including domestic cups in the past), or has a previously good keeper gone bad?

Personally all the past golden gloves and my own eyes tell me he was a very good keeper. I also don't think a player goes bad overnight, although a dip in form can impact any player. Therefore I think it’s just as likely (in fact more likely) that Riena has as many good days in front of him as he has behind him, and I'd hate those days be at a different club, because we did not have patience during a transitional phase at our club.
